[Bug 113749] utf-8 problem in Golf game of AisleRiot

2007-05-10 Thread bluevoter
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

Started up AisleRiot, switched to Golf game, and got an alert box
notifying me of an error, which was reported as a UTF-8 error. The
error could be cleared so that I could play the game. When the game
ended and a new game started, the same error arose. There's an easy
workaround, which is to click on the error box, but it's a bit annoying.
Also, the rules enforced by this error of Golf are different from those
of other versions of Golf, since no wraparound (King to Ace, for
example) is permitted.

ProblemType: Bug

[Bug 46575] Re: screen goes blank even though screensaver and power management are turned off

2007-05-10 Thread Oliver Grawert
you can easier do it by dropping the line:
Option DPMS
from your xorg.conf file
to fix it right is actually quite tricky since xorg overrides the screensaver
here, so even though setting a proper value for it wont help unless we remove
that default line ...
but ... removing it will then cause powermanagement to fail on login manager
screens or on window managers that have no power manager at all.

[Bug 113783] [apport] gnome-theme-manager crashed with SIGSEGV

2007-05-10 Thread John Carlyle-Clarke
Public bug reported:

This was one of many similar problems.

Firefox would not load webpages, Openoffice would quit immediately after
showing splash screen. Most control panel apps would exit immediately.
Logout dialog would not load, until after evolution was loaded. Widgets
behaving strangely in some programs (e.g. scrollbars displaying
incorrectly). KDE apps seemed to load and work, but gnome-terminal
would segfault right away. Evolution and nautilus appeared mostly OK.

I've switched back to KDE and everything works fine, including Open
Office and Firefox and gnome-terminal.

[Bug 113788] Gimp quits when save as dialog opens

2007-05-10 Thread terzag
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gimp

More and more often it happens that Gimp just closes itself (losing the
work done) when using the save as function. Usually, the dialog
appears, and before it builds the list of subfolders in the current
folder, the hard disk starts scratching for a while and Gimp quits.
Sometimes, the dialog doesn't even appear (Gimp quits as soon as the
save as option has been selected in the menu).

On one occasion, Gimp closed itself just by opening the context menu of
a file open with The Gimp.

I have no crash report, it just quits.

Don't know if it is random behaviour or triggered by something. It seems
to happen after working on several pictures, copying/pasting lots of
stuff. Maybe a memory leak problem ?

Using Ubuntu 7.04 (Feisty) but it already happened in 6.10 (Edgy).

[Bug 113790] Encrypted USB is owned by root

2007-05-10 Thread Matej Kovačič
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager

I created encrypted USB drive, in fact, I have USB drive woth three partitions,
and one partition is encrypted. I created it with command:
sudo luksformat -t reiserfs /dev/sdc3
(you need the following modules loaded: dm-crypt, dm-mod, aes, sha256).

When I remove USB key and plug it in again, I get gnome password dialog.
I enter password and USB is mounted. But the new USB crypto disk is
owned by root, so normal user can not write on it.

This is not the case with ordinary, non-encrypted USB partitions.

I can create a directory as root and chown it, but this is a dumb
solution.

[Bug 67443] Re: Progress bar is invisible

2007-05-10 Thread Bob
I recently installed Feisty and have this problem. I agree with Arun
that lowering the color depth to 16 is an unacceptable solution. I have
done the switch to clearlooks engine and it seems to work. However, now
I get warnings every time I open new graphics windows (I'll add the
warnings to this later, as I am not at that computer now). This makes
me wonder what else this fix messed up.

Is anyone working on this bug. It would seem to me that a bug in the
default theme engine for Ubuntu would be considered a major problem, but
there seems to be no action on this.

[Bug 113493] Gnome weather report doesn't search for next location entry

2007-05-10 Thread Kjmph
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

(Ubuntu Feisty Fawn 7.04)

The problem is that the search bar for the weather app doesn't search
for next entries which match.

If you go to preferences for the weather app in the gnome panel and
click the location tab there is a find text area on the bottom. To
reproduce this type in Santa Barbara and then Santa Barbara Zulia in
Venezuela is selected. However, find next is grayed out. This obscures
the fact that there is a Santa Barbara, CA, USA location further down
the list.

** Affects: gnome-applets (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: Confirmed

[Bug 113493] Re: Gnome weather report doesn't search for next location entry

2007-05-10 Thread Markus Thielmann
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better.

This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for
ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers.
You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage .

I have classified this bug as a bug in gnome-applets.

I can also confirm this behavior.

[Bug 76011] Re: Keyboard Indicator applet does not show correct text after a second login

2007-05-10 Thread dhd
Hi, I have exactly the same problem, on an installation of Feisty
upgraded from Edgy, upgraded from Dapper. The keyboard-indicator was
showing 'us' instead of 'USA' and I got the dialog box when trying to
open keyboard-properties. If I stop evolution-data-server and all other
evolution crap before I log out and log back in, the problem goes away.

In fact, it seems that this also affects my ability to use the
drivemount-applet. I tried about 5 times add it to the panel without
any success, but then after killing Evolution and logging out and back
in, I had 5 drivemount applets waiting for me!

And, it wasn't detecting my portable music player properly in Rhythmbox,
but now it is.

IMHO Evolution should be an optional part of the Ubuntu desktop. It's
not as functional an e-mail client as Thunderbird, and Google Calendars
is a lot more useful as a calendar. But that's just my opinion.

[Bug 76011] Re: Keyboard Indicator applet does not show correct text after a second login

2007-05-10 Thread dhd
More data points:

I am not able to replicate this by creating a new user, starting
Evolution, adding drivemount and keyboard applets, logging out and back
in again. Everything works fine. So there must be some random crud in
my GConf registry that is ultimately causing this problem.

If I start Evolution again as my regular user, then log out and back in
again (causing evolution-data-server to be added to my session), then
the problem reappears. The keyboard indicator is wrong and the
drivemount-applet doesn't start.

Let me know if there is anything in particular that I should run strace
on, or any part of GConf I should be looking at...

[Bug 24660] Re: Trying to get samba share results in weird filetype error

2007-05-10 Thread ALittleSlow
I am seeing this same problem in Feisty.
To reproduce:
To reproduce:
Ubuntu menu-Places-Network-Windows Network-the alanos-NATHANS
where the alanos is my smb workgroup (though I usually type it in all upper
case, nautilaus is showing it in lower case) and NATHANS is the name of an XP
Home PC. Launching NATHANS gives this error.

Cannot open NATHANS

The filename NATHANS indicates that this file is of type desktop
configuration file. The contents of the file indicate that the file is
of type x-directory/smb-share. If you open this file, the file might
present a security risk to your system.

Do not open the file unless you created the file yourself, or received
the file from a trusted source. To open the file, rename the file to the
correct extension for x-directory/smb-share, then open the file
normally. Alternatively, use the Open With menu to choose a specific
application for the file.

Right-clicking on the NATHANS icon and choosing Connect to this server
adds a similar NATHANS icon to my desktop. Launching that icon results
in the same error.

Looking at the properties of the icon:
Basic tab:
Name: NATHANS
Type: x-directory/smb-share
Contents: unreadable
Location: smb://the%20alanos
Permissions tab:
The permissions of NATHANS could not be determined.
Using Places-Connect to Server... and specifying a share name works fine.
Open With tab:

Forgot to add that I get the exact same results when trying to connect

Also, I scrambled the last three lines of the last post.

This:
 Permissions tab:
The permissions of NATHANS could not be determined.
Using Places-Connect to Server... and specifying a share name works fine.
 Open With tab:

should have read like this:
 Permissions tab:
The permissions of NATHANS could not be determined.

[Bug 113857] Trash Panel Applet should behave more consistent and sane

2007-05-10 Thread ulrich
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-applets

trash applet should act more like other applets or icons that appear in
notification area.

for example:
left-click trash applet -- nautilus window for ~/.Trash opens
again left-click trash applet -- the nautilus window should close.

why:
at current state, left-clicking the panel icon just opens as much nautilus
windows as you left-click it.
this should not happen, since there is no sane reason for more than one of such
window.
IF a user needs more than one .Trash window, he/she can right-click the panel
icon and open as much windows as he/she needs anyways.

[Bug 112735] Re: Can't change gnome session properties

2007-05-10 Thread Marcos Rufino
Well, after some weeks with Feisty Fawn, I'm sad to see that many
important things just don't work, at least in my box. Many of the
problems I have are related to the Gnome configuration modules.

For example, in the Session manager (SystemPreferencesSession) I
can't add apps to be automatically started when I turn on the machine.
Nor remove the applications already listed. [Actually, the Session app
let me include or remove but when I restart the system everything comes
back to the original state. And yes, I'd already tried to save the
session.]

The Language support application, in turn, let me change the default
language of the system, but when I restart the machine, guess what...
everything is exactly as before.

Am I the only one who is having these annoying problems with Feisty
Fawn? My Synaptic is with all the repositories activated and I'm waiting
everyday for an update that could solve all these snags.

[Bug 113862] Volume and quality problems with ICH6 audio cards

2007-05-10 Thread Mertiki
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager

This problem is experienced with this audio card : 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6
Family)
This problem doesn't happen in Linux Ubuntu edgy eft

My computer is a Dell inspiron 9300 laptop with a 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW
(ICH6 Family) audio card and internal speakers, 2 normal speakers in
front of my laptop and a little one under for more bass.

When lowering volume with the general volume bar in gnome-volume-
manager, the volume is lowered for the foreground speakers of my
computer but not for the speaker under the laptop. So the sound isn't
lowered but just distorted.

When using external speakers plugged into the speaker port, the volume
isn't lowering at all with the general volume bar.

The only universal way to mute sound correctly is the PCM bar..

[Bug 110345] Re: usb disk umount problem

2007-05-10 Thread hendrikwout
Same problem for me with feisty for both ppc en i386. Very ennoying.

It's resolved when uninstalling gnome-mount gnome-volume-manager and
installing pmount and gnome-volume-manager from the edgy repository. It
look like gnome-mount doesn't work yet.

[Bug 98625] Re: Reminder pop-up for exchange calender items does not work

2007-05-10 Thread Richard Wilbur
I confirm this bug's presence on a fresh install of Ubuntu 7.04 Desktop
(x86_64 SMP, my work machine) that is fully updated. Event
notifications/alarms work for the Personal calendar but not the exchange
calendar even though they are both selected in preferences-Calendar and
Tasks-Alarms. What information would be helpful in solving this bug?

I used to count on notifications from my Exchange calendar events under
Ubuntu 6.10 when I was using a different machine. This is pretty
unhandy as I kept expecting it to work and checking the configuration
after I missed the notifications.

[Bug 113878] Display glitch with transparent backgroud

2007-05-10 Thread mvsfrasson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Hi

I have transparent backgroud set to something like 75%. Execute the following
code:
  $ echo 1; echo 2
I obtain the lines
  1
  2
but the background of the 2 and some whitespace following it is blank, not
transparent. If I drag another window over the terminal window, it now paints
correctly the backgrounf in transparent.

[Bug 106060] Re: Selecting the Molecule screensaver makes the PC freeze. It is completely unresponsive.

2007-05-10 Thread RichWolf
I can confirm this one also. I'm running a Dell Dimension 4100 1Ghz,
with an ATI Rage 128 Pro video card, Feisty 7.04.

System completely locks up required hard boot. If I go back into
screensaver it locks up again because Molecule is selected.

I'll try another crash to see if I can get the logs, then gedit the
gnome screensaver so I can choose another screensaver.

Rich
p.s. maybe it's a regional thing since I'm in Oregon also. ;)
