[Bug 123347] Moving stretched icon from desktop to folder - unable to resize

2007-07-01 Thread Kristoffer Bergström
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

When you resize an icon or thumbnail on the desktop and then move it
elsewhere (e.g. home folder), you are then unable to make it the
original size unless you move it back to the desktop and do it there.
Maybe it should be automatically resized when moved.

2007-07-01 Thread Alec Wright
Unconfirming? What does that mean? That it still could be a valid bug,
but I need someone else to confirm it? Or does it mean that its been
rejected?

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: file-roller

When you right click on either oen file or multiple files and select
Create Archive... in nautius, the dialog gives you two options for
7z... They both seem to be exactly the same, using the same command
  (p7zip).
+
+ This affects my gutsy system, but my brothers feisty system doesnt have
+ a 7z option at all.
+
+ If you compress the same files with the diffrent 7z's, it gives exactly
+ the smae file for both of htem (same size, diff returns nothing, and
+ md5's are the same)

[Bug 123365] Re: Two instances of 7z in archive type menu in file-roller

2007-07-01 Thread Alec Wright
I've found out that it affects feisty too, if you have p7zip installed (which
my brother's pc didn't). If you have a feisty livecd or vm or something, you
can do this:
Fire up the livecd/vm. Add universe (and perhaps multiverse, I'm not sure)
repos to sources.list. Install p7zip (sudo aptitude update ; sudo aptitude
install p7zip) and then try to add some files/a file to an archive. Look at the
formats. At the bottom are two 7z's. Make exactly the same archive but using
the two different 7z's. Now check the sizes. Exactly the same. Now do a diff
(diif archive1.7z archive2.7z). No differences. Now md5sum them both (md5sum
archive1.7z archive2.7z). Exactly the same md5.

I'll test this on earlier ubuntu versions when I have time.

[Bug 97571] Re: Reset button in Color Balance controls sets Hue to wrong value

2007-07-01 Thread Oliver Gerlich
Some short notes:

- after starting Totem under Debian, it has the hue slider at center,
and colors are wrong; interestingly, from then on the colors are wrong
in other players as well (like in mplayer -vo xv, but not in mplayer -vo
x11); starting Totem then and setting the hue slider to leftmost
position fixes the colors in Totem and in the other players as well

- I just noticed that gxine has this line in its Engine Messages / Trace
window:
video_out_xv: ignoring broken XV_HUE settings on NVidia cards
Maybe it's related to this bug?

This is on the same machine where I saw the original bug, with Nvidia
driver 87.76.

By the way this bug does not relate to ubuntu (a better place would be
on the ekiga mailing list or irc channel).

I would recommend that you follow this more carefully:

Namely, use the gtk+ installer here: http://gimp-

[Bug 123149] Re: CD Burn Popup for Disk Handled Badly

2007-07-01 Thread Xeno Campanoli
Here I disagree. This is exactly the kind of user story you need to
talk about with interactive user interfaces. Even when a user is not
expecting to hit the OK button over and over again, there is a
possibility the user will accidentally hit the mouse button twice. If
you examine the location of the OK button, you'll see that over half
the area over which the mouse pointer is likely to be hovering will also
be hovering over the Cancel button when the first popup goes away, so
that the user can easily hit said Cancel button by accident. This is
bad design and can easily be fixed by simple displacement of the top
popup. This is a bug, and the bug is more of a problem because of the
bug in 123152, since that bug causes the user to tend to hit OK over
and over rapidly until there is a response.

This is a typical design issue for a UI. You never want to place or
design a window in a fashion that makes it needlessly easier for the
user to make a mistake. Furthermore, it's easy to fix.

How can anybody guess that you need to install The Gimp prior to Ekiga.
A Windows software, you usually just download it and clik install, don't you ?
Thank you very much for advice.
And sorry not to have used proper way, I used shortest path I found, I
apologize for that.

The reason you need to install gtk+ (it's not the gimp you need to
install) is because they don't want to include gtk+ if you already have
it. If 5 applications that used gtk+ done that (and you installed them
all), then you would have 5 instances installed.

I don't think setting the volume bar to 0 on mute is a good idea. See bug
337896 for some rationale why it can be useful to actually see the volume level
one would get when unmuting. My vote goes to WONTFIX.
