[Bug 150966] Re: openoffice will not load
I am using ubuntu-packages. In the Community Forums, someone suggested that they could launch OOo from the terminal. I tried that with no success. It mentioned a fork error. I am too new to know what that means; sorry. It appears, from what I am reading elsewhere, that there is a conflict with the fglrx driver and the OOo ubuntu-packages. If the driver is disabled, OOo will work flawlessly. Upon reinstalling the driver, OOo will not load. I am now using the generic video driver, not the fglrx driver. I do not have a bottom panel as the compiz tools make it pretty unnecessary. However, I've noticed that my top panel does not load until I click the desktop. It's not a big deal but not ideal behavior. I don't know if it's a compiz issue or a gnome panel issue. since compiz now loads my default on login and I haven't tried to turn it off. There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work correctly. The last error message was: Did not receive a reply. I re-enabled custom effects and my 3d desktop came back with all the trimmings but I rebooted anyway just to be sure everything was back to normal, thats when I got the above message (on login to ubuntu root desktop). Re: [Bug 150103] Re: Apparent corruption after ripping Sony/EMI copy controlled CD
Hello Kees, Thank you for your prompt response. I had previously tried to rip a couple of tracks from that CD on a Windows XP machine and found that it attempted to load DRM software, with or without consent. This behaviour is tantamount to virus behaviour in my opinion. Yes, piracy is a problem but I own the original disk. I suspected that there may be other hidden files capable of corrupting Feisty. As a newbie user I thought it best to raise the matter as I find now that Sound Juicer will not rip any .cda files at all from any CD I own, despite twice removing and reinstalling the complete program. So something is corrupted. However, I have since loaded a couple of other Ubuntu rippers which seem to behave as expected, so the problem is probably with Sound Juicer. I will log a bug to that effect on the author's website. Thanks again, Kent F Melbourne Australia Kees Cook wrote: Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. [Bug 151207] Error when trying to open a .wmf file, should use Gimp
Public bug reported: When trying to open a .wmf file, there is no open with option, and the open option leads to an error message. Gimp is not able to edit this format, but at least to read it. [Bug 150906] Re: [gutsy] VERY bad Desktop location inconsistency with xdg-user dirs
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 122602 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/122602 Hi! Of course, I have read all the comments for bug #122602. Sorry, If I am being unclear, but english is not my native language, and my comments may seem ambiguous. I'll try to be more clear: Despite Desktop not being bookmarked in the latest xdg-user-dirs(-gtk) packages, another folder named Desktop (translated on disk to Рабочий стол, Bureau) is being created, which is very confusing, because: In all revelant places (Places menu, GTK file choosers, etc.), users have TWO Desktop-shortcuts: 1. One points to the physical Desktop folder 2. The other points to the physical Рабочий стол folder (Desktop translation) I beleive this happens due to unification of DESKTOP and DOWNLOAD dirs in 0.8-0ubuntu3. xdg-user-dirs-gtk creates a bookmark for DOWNLOAD, and DOWNLOAD points to DESKTOP in our package. But the folder created has translated name, ignoring the already-present special-cased Desktop folder. So, in recent daily livecds I always see 2 folders in my $HOME: Desktop and Рабочий стол See? Please take your time to look at the screenshots attached to this bug. They illustrate this all quite well. I beleive there're two ways to fix this: 1. Remove translations for Desktop and desktop from all the .po- files for xdg-user-dirs, so that exactly one special-cased Desktop folder will remain. 2. Split DESKTOP and DOWNLOAD in /etc/xdg/user-dirs.defaults again, so the false Desktop folder will not at least be created by default. I beleive GNOME does not yet respect xdg-user-dirs, and is hardly tied to the special-cased untranslated Desktop directory, so it might be useful to remove desktop and Desktop translation strings from the template until Hardy and GNOME 2.22... -- [gutsy] VERY bad Desktop location inconsistency with xdg-user dirs https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/150906 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee (via bug 122602). -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 123078] Re: System - Quit takes a long time to appear
Setting to Confirmed. Indeed if I remove (like I did) gnome-power- manager from the autostart list (System-Preferences-Sessions), gnome- session-save --kill or clicking the Quit icon or selecting System-Quit results in ca. 60s wait. If I cancel it, the next time it works as normal. If I logout and login again, the 60s wait is there again. Relieved to having found what was the cause of the problem, though... it was really annoying. ** Changed in: gnome-session (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- System - Quit takes a long time to appear https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/123078 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 148291] Re: Unable to start the settings manager 'gnome-settings-daemon'.

[Bug 147943] Re: [MASTER] broken initial stacking (was: compiz hides quick loading windows at login)
Strange, before the last compiz updates (before the last updates prior to 10 Oct 07, that is), I was able to click on the desktop and my panels would appear. Now (after the last compiz update prior to 10 Oct 07) when I first boot and log in, both panels are invisible, and the clicking no longer works. I actually have to switch to the next viewport and then my panels become visible. [Bug 151253] Lock screen causes X to crash
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver Well, it's all in the subject. When I hit lock screen or my screensaver activates and wants to lock the screen, X crashes and after a few seconds I get a new gdm login prompt. This is on an HP Compaq nc6320 in a docking station with an external HP1740 17 screen. I guess the issue might be related to the dual-screen setup. VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) I don't think I'm the only one with this problem, check http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=60671 , but I couldn't find an existing bug report for the issue. ** Affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Lock screen causes X to crash https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/151253 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug contact for gnome-screensaver in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
