That bug was on a computer now used by one of my kids, who reinstalled

CapsLock. The key labeled caps lock works as control but toggles the

After stopping hal and acpid (/etc/init.d/acpid stop; /etc/init.d/hal
stop) I can adjust brightness in console and kde with all levels, but
there is no popups in kde (guidance uses hal?). So it looks like that

I can confirm that. I've just upgraded from gutsy to hardy on my dell inspirion
1520. But I'm using kubuntu (it's guidance-power-manager in kde).
When I'm in kde, pressing Fn+up/down skips one brightness level. And I can see
2 popups showing brightness level (one under another).

I checked the current status of Fedora 8.
They now provide sha256 and sha512 password hashing.
This is implemented in the glibc crypt routines and works with the standard
pam_unix.so module.

Using the proposed fix (switching to EXA) removed the black blocks for
me, but makes rendering unbearably slow. So it's not really a solution.

I tried to add Synpatic Package Manager from the Main menu after it disapeared
from ( system- Adminstration), but when I check Synpatic Package Manager, it
uncheck by itself, same for other item in (Main Menu-Administration)

I have a similar problem with Hardy Beta and the latest packages
installed (gnome-power-manager 2.22.0-0ubuntu2)
