[Bug 198172] Re: [users-admin] Changing anything about the root account sets and invalid home directory

This bug was fixed in the package gnome-system-tools - 2.22.0-0ubuntu5

---
gnome-system-tools (2.22.0-0ubuntu5) hardy; urgency=low

  * If a user already exists then set the home directory text box
to display their home directory, rather than the default for their
profile. This avoids changing the homedir inadvertantly when
a user's homedir isn't the default for their profile, in
particular the root user on Ubuntu. (LP: #198172)

as a short term measure, ubufox can help to improve the behaviour for

Argh, argh, do you really think so? I always found using tabs sooo
helpful to reduce confusion and clutter on my desktop. Not selecting
new tabs is bad as a workaround, but opening new windows is worse
FWIW.

What do other people think?

[Bug 209791] Re: Wallpaper not set on reboot

2008-04-01 Thread Kalyan
I would consider it as a bug because:
1 Expected behavior is different from observed behavior
2 No message is provided to the user about failure of setting wallpaper.
People like you and I can realize what happened. But a typical user would not
know what happened.
3 The application does not warn the user when setting the wall paper that on
reboot or on unmount, wallpaper will be lost.

Thanks,
Kalyan

[Bug 210000] [NEW] Setting time through clock applet is confusing

2008-04-01 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

I am using newest Ubuntu Hardy.

When user is trying to set time through clock applet (on top panel), he gets a
confusing dialog - there is button Set system time... which is actually
looking like it is supposed to run another dialog with time settings. It is not
clear enough for the first time how is this dialog working. There is also no
choice to let the time to be synchronized through ntp (which will lead to
confusion of user, that there is no such choice in Ubuntu).
Date time could also be changed through time-admin, which, at least for me,
looks much more straightforward. It appears to me, that there is no reason to
have two different dialogs for the same thing.

[Bug 148637] Re: [Gusty] system crashes on ac power unless acpi=off, but runs on battery

2008-04-01 Thread Mskadu
I am now awaiting help on getting /proc/acpi

** Attachment added: sudo lspci -vvnn
   http://launchpadlibrarian.net/13014827/sudolspci-vvnn.log

** Summary changed:

- [Gusty] system crashes on ac power unless acpi=off, but runs on battery
+ [Gusty/ Heron Development] system crashes on ac power unless acpi=off, but
runs on battery

** Description changed:

Although Feisty runs fine in my Sony Vaio PCG-K115z laptop on ac power
or batteries, I can only boot to Gusty if the laptop is running on
  battery.

If I try to boot with ac power the system crashes some seconds after GDM
is loaded. And, if I boot on battery and, after the system is loaded, I
plug the ac power, the system crashes instantly.

The only way to boot on ac power (or to plug it after boot on battery
and keep the system running) is to set acpi=off in the kernel line. I've
tried to check the acpi configs and events triggered by the ac power,
but could not find any problem. I've also forced the crash plugging the
ac power after system load to check system logs for that second, but
  nothing is registered.
+
+ [Hardy Heron Development]
+ The same model as above, except for me it does not work even if the laptop is
run on battery power. However, running with acpi=off/ noacpi affects useful
areas like wireless interface.
+
+ Note that in my case GDM is able to load when booting with kernel boot
+ option acpi=ht.

This is a wishbug for Hardy+1 (Intrepid Ibex) and upstream GNOME.

It should be possible to use different icon view zoom for desktop and nautilus,
so that the default icon view zoom for nautilus can be for instance 150% and

Nautilus should/can keep the setting in Nautilus Preferences-View, and the

[Bug 148637] Re: [Gusty] system crashes on ac power unless acpi=off, but runs on battery

Results of my ACPI debugging as suggested in the above URL:

- No ACPI-based fan
- None of the kernel boot parameters except acpi=ht work for me.

I am trying to put together attachments for this bug report (as
suggested in: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingACPI). However, when I am
trying to cp -r /proc/acpi /tmp the process gets stuck at trying to
copy /proc/acpi/event. I am in recovery mode when I do this. Any

[Bug 177124] Re: Brasero does not honor speed setting

2008-04-01 Thread Radu Cristian Fotescu
Brasero won't honor speed settings in two situations:

(1) Selecting a non-working speed. For instance, a drive is only able to
burn at 10x, 16x and 24x, and K3b is correctly showing this, BUT Brasero
doesn't know the working speeds, as it *only* tests for the MAXIMUM
speed, then it lists all the theoretically possible speeds down to
zero, with a 2x step. So you'll have 52x-50x-...-24x-22x-20x-...-2x. If
you select 24x, it will honor it. If you select 28x, it will disregard
it and it will burn at the maximum speed, whatever that means.

(2) Selecting a (bug) odd speed: 1x, 3x, 5x, etc. See upstream bug
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=525501 in that case.

[Bug 209308] Re: glib2.0 version is wrong

2008-04-01 Thread Loïc Minier
Hmm I could have used the same changelog entry instead of creating a new
one indeed.

(Concerning security update versioning, I didn't understand what it
changes.)

About the ubuntu version number, well it's exactly the point: this is
not Ubuntu specific at all; it's just a snapshot of work in progress or
of a package pending NEW in Debian for instance; there is /no/ Ubuntu
change to carry, just a snapshot of the WIP package from Debian to get
it faster. And we wont have any merge either.

[Bug 178482] Re: Brasero doesn't show correct speed when burning

2008-04-01 Thread Radu Cristian Fotescu
Both optical units that show this result are by LG:
-- laptop unit: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N. Capabilities: CD-R: 24x; DVD-R/DVD+R:
6x ZCLV.
-- PC unit: GCE-8526B. Capabilities: CD-R: 52x.

These models are reported in dmesg anyway. I can't run sginfo, but these
units are *very* popular.

I can't believe that *only* the LG units report speeds in KiB or in KB
that get computed in incorrect Nx speed values in Brasero = 0.6.90!

2008-04-01 Thread Perbiu
Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon, April 1 2008 Software up to date.
Pentium 4 2.5ghz, 512mb ram.

Problem: A message of Too many open files appears in Nautilus (seen in
the attach image). Then after that any icon you select in Nautilus
becomes an uknown file and icon changes. And if you try to copy or paste
or open any music files the message will appear again, Unable to copy,
Too many open files

When does it happen: After using Nautilus (30mins-1hour) of repeatedly
copy paste of copying a music files one by one to a different
location or folder. Im organizing my music files and picture files. Then
it happens, though everything is still usable except Nautilus copy
paste or by opening the file. I dont know if its a Nautilus problem or
the clipboard. It is not knew, i've experience this since Feisty.

Solution: It can be fixed by logging out-logging in, but the problem
will come back after a while.

[Bug 178482] Re: Brasero doesn't show correct speed when burning

2008-04-01 Thread Radu Cristian Fotescu
TerryG, you're completely wrong! GNOME bug #507651 is for a completely
different issue: #507651 is about the ESTIMATED speed shown WHILE you
burn, whereas this bug is about the speed you CHOOSE PRIOR to start the
burning!

The correct upstream bug is: Bug 525501 – Brasero displays odd burning speeds
(1-3-5-etc) instead of even values (2-4-8-etc)
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=525501

The fix is absolutely trivial, *but* it was only tested on systems that
had correct speeds with Brasero 0.6.1 (*NOT* 0.6.90!!!) and incorrect
speeds with 0.7.0 and 0.7.1.

[Bug 199493] Re: evince prints lines of text at a 45 degree angle

2008-04-01 Thread Francesco Conti
I don't think the bug was fixed correctly. I have an up-to-date version
of Hardy 64 bit, and I'm still getting it (or something that is very
similar to it). When trying to print the attached PDF, I get errors in
mathematic characters. Something must be wrong in the way evince
translates PDF files to PS files before sending them to the printer.

Argh, argh, do you really think so? I always found using tabs sooo
helpful to reduce confusion and clutter on my desktop. Not selecting
new tabs is bad as a workaround, but opening new windows is worse
 FWIW.

 What do other people think?

FAR worse. I love tab's, and workspaces. Why is it so hard to fix this
bug the right way? (I know it's easy to talk if you can't code, but the
bug has been here long enough).

[Bug 205303] Re: vinagre crashed with SIGSEGV in free() when bookmarking empty window

2008-04-01 Thread Jonh Wendell
Hi. I confirm this issue, but unfortunately I will fix this for next
version, 2.23.1, it has lots of changes in its structure, which allows
me to fix this. For the current version, 0.5, it would be too difficult
to fix this.

Thanks for the bug report.
