[Bug 182038] Re: Black rectangle instead of image in FF3 [Hardy]

2008-04-16 Thread Toltech
I now reinstalled the open source nv driver and went to my "black
rectangle test site" and things appear to be working now. Also the
screen saver is working again. I will keep my system on the open source
nv driver and test if the black rectangles reappear. The proprietary
driver seemed to be working fine.

[Bug 217956] Re: totem depends on libtrackerclient (even when tracker is not installed)

2008-04-16 Thread Marcel Stimberg
You're actually right - totem now explicitly depends on totem-plugins
(it was different in the previous version...). This does not seem to me
like a good idea, a set of "recommended plugins" (as in the description)
should be a "recommends" not a "depends"... I therefore mark this bug as
confirmed (although it's a minor problem, see next comment), sorry for
closing it.

Regarding your initial problem: The totem package is only a dummy
package for installing either totem-gstreamer or totem-xine. If you
remove totem and totem-plugins while keeping totem-gstreamer installed,
totem should be running fine...

with all the updates done.

[Bug 195929] Re: Cosmetic bug: rectangular white outline surrounding rounded buttons

2008-04-16 Thread Conn
A little update.

I have been testing Fedora rawhide and noticed that their "nodoka" gtk
engine (originally based on murrine, I believe) uses the same fix as I
posted in this bug for Ubuntulooks and Murrine (originally found by
Andrea Cimitan). The issue with GtkEntry boxes is more complicated and
will require cooperation from the Mozilla and GTK folks, so it's out of
our hands.

What I do recommend is that the maintainers of the gtk2-engines-murrine
and gtk2-engines-ubuntulooks packages will review and include the
patches.

2008-04-16 Thread Asheesh Laroia
Actually, I can't reproduce the bug on Debian (with metacity 2.22.0-1).

Therefore I believe this issue is Ubuntu-specific.

[Bug 210468] Re: try to access a .Trash-$USER directory on autofs mounts

2008-04-16 Thread Sebastian Kapfer
On a medium-sized installation with a few thousand automounter entries,
the resulting mount storm makes the system unusable. It is constantly
spawning new automount processes (almost like a fork bomb) and keeps
haldaemon at 99% CPU. Not sure how gvfs triggers this, a simple stat
/home/.Trash (where /home is autofs) sure doesn't trigger a mount storm.

This is happening from time to time; the bug was also in feisty and
seems to be more likely to occurr in hardy.

[Bug 10713] Re: Broken context-sensitive spell check in Evolution (Greek, Hebrew)

2008-04-16 Thread Simos Xenitellis
Evgeny, many thanks for the detailed testing and reporting.
Sorry for messing up your Russian spell checking in Evolution.

This gives a hint that something might be wrong in the Greek spelling package.
If someone from the fellow Greeks can dissect the aspell-el .deb file, it would
be really great.
My crude guess is that the problem might be related to text encodings.

I'll update the upstream report as well.

If you have a look at the original bug report at the top of this page

error?). Whats more, I'm not spamming this bug with my own, if you read
this post please (just above mine): "No one has confirmed this bug is
still on hardy, marking it as invalid, please feel free to reopen the
bug report if someone can reproduce it on hardy."

I added this because I'm still experiencing problems adding SMB printers
and this bug was so close to the one I was going to report that I
thought it would be best to add something here rather than open up a
'duplicate' report.

[Bug 206227] Re: vinagre fails to connect

2008-04-16 Thread Jonh Wendell
gtk-vnc 0.3.5 fixes this bug, along with other one related to wrong
colors (bug #212504).

What I mean in my previous comment is: If you are going to update gtk-
vnc to 0.3.5, you need to apply that patch in vinagre, in order to have
debug stuff enabled. Having debug stuff enabled is mandatory!

Also, IMHO it's important to backport the patch indicated on bug
#207205.

In short, 3 important bugs fixed.

[Bug 206227] Re: vinagre fails to connect

2008-04-16 Thread Emilio Pozuelo Monfort
Jonh,

I guess it's too late to update gtk-vnc at this point. RC is this Friday and
final release next Thursday...
We already have vinagre 0.5.1, and that patch is only for debugging purposes?
If so, it's not probably worth the risk at this point (without looking at the
diff, svn.gnome.org isn't working well for me...).

Can't we backport a fix for this bug from the gtk-vnc hg repo?

Will gtk-vnc 0.3.5 fix this bug?
Soren, what's your opinion on updating gtk-vnc?

[Bug 12153] Re: Cannot use Windows key in keyboard shortcuts

2008-04-16 Thread Paul Kishimoto
Cardy's (#38 above) solution works for me in Gutsy.

I am observing the same behaviour as noted above:
- Setting "Super is mapped to the Win-keys (default)" in Keyboard Preferences
causes
Keyboard Shortcuts to accept the Win-key as a modifier
- The displayed result is "Mod4+Page_Down" or similar
- In gconf-editor, the corresponding key in
/apps/gnome_settings_daemon/keybindings/ has a value of e.g.
"Page_Down"
- The shortcut doesn't actually work.

Some additional things I've observed:
- Manually changing the gconf key to "Page_Down" or "Page_Down"
has no effect.
- Trying the same process with "Hyper is mapped to the Win-Keys" set in
Keyboard Preferences produces *identical* results (including the values of the
gconf keys).
- Setting "Press any of Win-keys to choose 3rd level" in Keyboard Preferences
causes "Mod5+Key" to be recorded in Keyboard Shortcuts, with a matching
"Key" visible via gconf-editor. However, the shortcut does not work.
- The fix suggested by Cardy (manually entering Key in gconf-editor) works
regardless of *any* settings concerning the Win-keys in Keyboard Preferences.

I hope this extra information helps.

[Bug 10713] Re: Broken context-sensitive spell check in Evolution (Greek, Hebrew)

2008-04-16 Thread Evgeny Kuznetsov
Simos, I did not exactly follow the way you've described, I used the way
I usually add to get spellchecking support for various languages.
Anyway, I was able to reproduce this bug with Greek. Here's what was
done:

a. I don't install full support for all the languages, since I'm quite
comfortable with Russian as a system language. Instead, I install aspell
packages for corresponding languages, since GNOME (and Evolution as a
part of it) relies on aspell to do spellchecks. So I did "sudo aptitude
install aspell-el" for Greek, restarted Evolution, opened a new message,
activated Greek spellchecking in Edit -> Current languages menu, and
then pasted the example phrase you've provided into the editor. The last
word appeared underlined as a mistype.

1. F7 did not found any misspelled words, despite the fact that last word was
marked as such.
2. Secondary click on the underlined word did not bring in any suggestions at
all.

b. After that, I have typed in a phrase in Russian, "проверка русской
арфографии". This phrase contains a mistype in last word (should read
"орфографии"), and this word was underlined as mistyped. After that, I
tried to explore the bug again.

1. F7 ignores Greek mistype, and only shows Russian one (with valid
suggestions).
2. Secondary click on underlined words brings no suggestions, neither for Greek
nor for Russian mistypes.

c. Then, I turned Greek spellchecking off in menu, leaving other
languages on. After that, all words in Greek phrase were underlined (as
expected, since Greek dictionary was no longer active), as well as the
last (actually mistyped) word in Russian phrase. In this situation:

1. F7 ignores Greek words and shows Russian mistyped word with valid
suggestions.
2. Secondary click on underlined words brings no suggestions, not even for
Russian.

d. Then, I created a new message, kept Greek spellchecking disabled, and
typed in the Russian example (no Greek in this letter).

1. F7 works as intended.
2. Secondary click works as intended.

e. Then, I pasted the Greek example into the second message. Secondary
click got broken, repeating situation [c].

f. After a few more tests, Russian was stably producing situation [a]
(both F7 and secondary click don't work) with all the mistypes I have
previously used. Removing Greek support totally (sudo aptitude remove
aspell-el) didn't help fix Russian back again: the examples I have used
when Greek was installed produce situation [a], while some other Russian
mistypes work correctly. All other languages I use (Swedish, German,
English, Esperanto, Ukrainian and Lithuanian) work correctly.

So here is my conclusion: Greek spellchecking in Evolution is buggy and
effectively breaks other languages as well. Right now, I even have no
clue how to repair Russian back again...

[Bug 218370] Re: imap failure

2008-04-16 Thread Kees Cook
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 218361] Re: [Hardy] Evince won't open another pdf from a link within a pdf file

2008-04-16 Thread TerpInHotLanta
I should also add that the file worked in KPDF just fine.

As for attaching the file, I'll try and make a file that does the same
thing-- the file I tested is copyrighted (and I'm not in the financial
situation to get sued)

[Bug 145337] Re: Brightness key stopped working after update [Gutsy]

2008-04-16 Thread Tomas Zilvar
Will the patch make it to Gutsy's repositories? Or some other solution?
It's weird to close a bug with a "workaround" of this sort... And it's a
shame that after half a year it's still present, I've spent too much
time figuring this out after a flawless fresh install on my HP 6510b.

[Bug 218370] [NEW] imap failure

2008-04-16 Thread darksun
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I keep getting the IMAP failure when I get ready to check my email. I don't
have large files going to that account and I usually put my password in and it
goes away but this time it stayed. What can I do to fix this annoying issue? I
am running UBUNTU 7.10 and my email client is Evolution.
When I click on the icon I get that box saying that I have am IMAP failure and
to enter the password.

[Bug 218361] [NEW] [Hardy] Evince won't open another pdf from a link within a pdf file

2008-04-16 Thread TerpInHotLanta
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

I have a PDF file that has links to other pdf files within it (e.g. the
table of contents). When I click on one of these links nothing happens.

Previously, I was able to run these files with no problem in Gutsy, but
since upgrading to Hardy, it has stopped working.
