2008-10-16 Thread palz
Sorry to take so long to reply.
I tried upgrading to 8.04, but that did not change the problem. I decided to
do a clean install.
When I installed Ubuntu 8.04 with clean install I have not had the issue
reoccur.
Thank you for your time and efforts.

Paula

Hi Sebastien,
I have Evolution working now, it took a lot of trying but
finally after deleting all the account information, removing and reinstalling
the programme it now works, although I cannot scroll up or down through my
received or for that matter sent mail, the bar on the right is blue from top
to bottom.
Could you please tell me how to install a spell check? spell check works with
Kontact but not Evolution.
Would you be good enough to tell me how I can set Automatic Updates, I've
looked everywhere but can't see how to do it,
regards Joe Jameson.

[Bug 283055] Re: gnome doesn't allow combining comma above

2008-10-16 Thread Neskie Manuel
FROM xkb listserv:

|||  * gr(polytechnic) - dead_psili
(this should be 'polytonic')

The first two cases have been fixed in GTK 2.14 recently, and I think they are
in gtk-2-14-3.
I really do home that Ubuntu uses the fixed GTK+. I think there was a sponsor
(Theppitak?)
that would make sure the patch, at least, makes it to 8.10.
Sorry for not providing links for this; cannot access them atm.

Greek Polytonic should work. dead_psili is not a combining character;
it's a 'keysym' that when matched with a character (a greek vowel), it
produces a single, precompoesd, character from the Greek Extended
Unicode group.

[Bug 260765] Re: DVD playback does not work anymore

2008-10-16 Thread nullack
Onkar, I have used your PPA as per:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo apt-cache policy gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad
gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad:
  Installed: 0.10.8-1ubuntu1~ppa2
  Candidate: 0.10.8-1ubuntu1~ppa2

With re-testing the previously reported issues:

1. This major issue breaks about half of my DVD collection and still
exists in this SVN build of resindvd. Please note, it does not exist
with Hardy as resindvd was not used.

2. Seeking is still broken.

3. Trying to go back to menu during title playback is still broken.

4. Subtitle functionality is still broken.

5. Audio functionality is still broken.

6. Multi angle DVDs are still broken.

Onkar, Im thankful for the work youve done with this and Im sure that
when upstream is in a better state you will be able to help deliver a
great DVD experience on Ubuntu with gstreamer. The problem is the
changes with totem using resindvd for a production release version thats
very shortly to be released is that the whole experience with gstreamer
for DVD playback is much more worse than what it was under Hardy.

I dont see how any responsible decision can be made to go with resindvd
playback for Intrepid. To me the only realistic path is to regress back
to a Hardy like configuration that did not use resindvd.

This bug drives me crazy. Everything on the panel jumps around
periodically, sometimes after the screen resolution gets changed (such
as when playing full screen games) or after upgrades. I get really
tired of having to unlock everything, move it back, and re-lock it.
You'd think that locking it would keep it from moving, but, practically
speaking, it only prevents ME from putting it back after it moved
itself.

[Bug 282940] Re: "Computer" not recognised by Nautilus

2008-10-16 Thread niknah
I am using vnc4server to login, I'd like to use x11vnc but there's a bug
there that makes it unusable, bug #247669 and the source package to
x11vnc doesn't compile, it is missing various Makefile.in files.

When you login with vnc4server, dbus may not run and DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS
is not set.
In the gvfs-bin package, at the end of client/gdaemonvfs.c there's a thing
there that silently returns if it can't find this variable in the environment.

To fix I added a line i $HOME/.vnc/xstartup

eval `dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session`

After that "gvfs-ls computer:" worked. But I couldn't click into my usb drive
inside computer:
There were some accessdenied errors with dbus but I fixed it by changing the
"Volume" lines in /etc/dbus-1/system.d/hal.conf to "accept" instead of "deny"
And then running the polkit-gnome-authorization to allow me to mount/unmount
drives remotely.

It was mainly problems from logging in via vnc4server

[Bug 281535] Re: gnome-sound-properties plays wrong sound

2008-10-16 Thread Rocko
I think I've found the problem - gnome-sound-properties was displaying a
blank sound theme in the drop-down combobox.

The updated gnome-sound-properties in gnome-control-center
1:2.24.0.1-0ubuntu5 wasn't even remembering the sounds I set - on re-
opening, it said:

(gnome-sound-properties:8030): sound-properties-DEBUG: setting theme __custom
(gnome-sound-properties:8030): sound-properties-DEBUG: not found, falling back
to fdo
(gnome-sound-properties:8030): sound-properties-DEBUG: setting theme freedesktop

So I selected the Ubuntu sound them, selected a custom sound, and then
the sound theme changed to Custom. Now it both remembers the sound and
plays it correctly.

PS. Do I have to do anything re bugzilla.gnome.org?

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: zenity

When running the following command:

The information box appears, but it appears behind other applications on

it. If it the only application on the desktop, it is not selected, and
I must click on it to see it. This problem is new for Intrepid 8.10

[Bug 29622] Re: Many web browsers not print the headers and footers.

I have changed the status back to New. Printing of KDE 4.x applications
has been totally broken across three distributions of Kubuntu (7.10,

installations.

The problems experienced include, but are far from limited to, the lack
of headers and footers.

2008-10-16 Thread Chris Coulson
Thanks, but this isn't a gnome-power-manager bug as HAL is providing
inconsistent information. I assume that these readings were taken with
AC adapter present? HAL is providing the following information about
your battery and AC adapter:

battery.rechargeable.is_charging = false
battery.rechargeable.is_discharging = true
ac_adapter.present = true

I've re-assigned to HAL for the time being.

Could you please provide the same information, both with the battery
fully charged, and the AC adapter disconnected.

[Bug 216197] Re: no weather information in gnome panel

2008-10-16 Thread Hendrik Lönngren
I still get this issue in fully updated Hardy. I had the problem with
one location in America, my timezone being Europe/Berlin. The German
sites had working weather information. However, America/Los Angeles
never had any weather information. When I clicked to edit the location,
the timezone said Asia/Yekaterinburg. From experimenting I know that the
timezones are paired, that is, when I entered Asia/Yekaterinburg, I got
America/Los Angeles on next boot. No weather though, also the deviant
timezone is only shown in the edit location dialog and only when opened
the first time. I tried reinstalling the panel, now I have no weather at
all, Europe/Berlin always changing to something else (don’t remember
exactly what, remember that it only shows up the first time).

[Bug 284691] [NEW] Gnome System Monitor garbled display on Parallels

2008-10-16 Thread Ralph Little
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-monitor

When run in Parallels, upgraded from Hardy, Gnome System Monitor draws
incorrectly.
Positioning information seems skewed.
Screen shot enclosed.

There is a "shadow" window, and the main display area seems to be shrunk
vertically.
Mouse positions for buttons follow the shadow size.

Running in Parallels on MacOS Leopard.

All other apps seem to be fine.

[Bug 284700] Re: when I try Mimizing the page closes

2008-10-16 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs
effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems.
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)'.

  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

I don't know exactly how to run it in a debugger, but will do if

[Bug 284666] [NEW] The vertical bar of the blinking text cursor leaves a trail down the compose text window when using Compiz

2008-10-16 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Steps to reproduce:

1. Enable Compiz.
2. Open Evolution and start to compose a new message.
3. Check that you have the auto spell checker enabled.
3. Type some garbage text lines, in order to the spell checker underlines the
text with a dotted red line.
4. Move the text cursor around the text lines using the cursor keys.

You can see that the vertical bar of the blinking text cursor leaves a
trail down the compose text.

I attach an screenshot to illustrate the problem.

[Bug 242289] Re: Jamendo streaming issues: Can't skip to further back in recording; Doesn't buffer enough before playing

2008-10-16 Thread Mark Darbyshire
I'm now using Intrepid 8.10 Beta. I haven't seen this happen so far (it
seems to wait to buffer for long enough), but I'm not a regular user of
Rhythmbox. I need to wait for the Internet to get really slow to test
this.

In short, I haven't filed a bug upstream, but this may not be a problem
anymore and I'll have to wait until I can test this.

If I do end up needing to file a bug upstream I'll post a link here.
