[Bug 280148] Re: g-s-d needs to set mouse properties when a new device appears
As people have mentioned here, I have a gnome-settings-daemon in my PPA to fix this. We can hopefully get the patch blessed by upstream and some Ubuntu GNOME people, and SRU it. ** Summary changed: - After resume, ALPS touchpad fully functional, but with wrong settings + g-s-d needs to set mouse properties when a new device appears ** Description changed: - Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics + Some input devices regularly disappear and reappear (for example, when + they're unplugged), others feel the need to disappear when the computer + is suspended, and yet others will decide to vanish for a little while + for no reason at all! - After resume from suspend to ram, ALPS touchpad ignores settings in - gnome-mouse-properties. According to settings, 'Mouse clicks with - touchpad' is disabled options, but taping on touchpad produces 'clicks'. - Enabling and disabling that option fixes the issue - until next suspend. + This is mildly unfortunate with input-hotplug, as the actual X devices + vanish as well. When they come back, they reappear with the default + settings. gnome-settings-daemon needs to know to reset properties when a + new device appears. ** Changed in: gnome-settings-daemon (Ubuntu) Importance: Low = Medium -- g-s-d needs to set mouse properties when a new device appears https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/280148 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Re: [Bug 160311] Re: Window Resize Difficult (Window Border Thickness)
I absolutely hate this bug. Am I weirdo too? Even 30 (and I really doubt that many are interested) doesn't mean much against millions of users. How many of those millions you think will go throught the process of registering here at launchpad and complain here? Not many, lots of them just dump OS as flawed or grind teeth. 30 fix requests is a huge number by my scales. I am sure that feature which requires user to digg through forums to find a fix for such a basic feature as resizing window is a bug and requires immediate correction. [Bug 160311] Re: Window Resize Difficult (Window Border Thickness)
Ubuntu aims to be usable by ordinary human beings and accessible to the disabled. This issue is hurting those goals as follows: (1) Usability: Windows (95 onwards), Mac OS and KDE all have the ability to change border thickness *because clicking on a thin border is a problem for some people*. Microsoft, Apple and the KDE team all added this feature for a reason, and don't require you to change theme to change the border thickness. Border thickness is not a problem for many people I'm sure, but Ubuntu is missing out on part of its target market. (2) Accessibility: some people have motor control disabilities, e.g. tremor in the hand - it's important for them that it's *really easy* to set a larger window border, even on a smaller monitor. Ubuntu has relatively good support for visually impaired users - why not for users with motor control problems? Note that elderly people often have problem controlling the mouse (if they are new to computer), which is another accessibility issue - if you are struggling to accurately position the mouse pointer, a small window border makes it harder still. (3) Look and Feel: People should be able to choose a nice theme that they like (or is accessible to them), and independently tweak the border thickness - what if you hate blue but the only theme with a thicker border is blue? More importantly, what if you are visually impaired *and* have motor control problems, so you need a high-contrast theme, yet the only themes with a wide border are low contrast. The fact that only 30 people have commented here is misleading - only a tiny percentage of those experiencing this problem will bother to find the right bug and register on Launchpad. It's very likely it's affecting tens to hundreds of thousands of people, assuming Ubuntu's user base of 6 million is correct. Finally, Ubuntu should be *better* than Mac OS, Windows, etc - this is one area where its GNOME flavour is behind the competition. -- Window Resize Difficult (Window Border Thickness) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160311 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

RE: [Bug 160311] Re: Window Resize Difficult (Window Border Thickness)
We will look into a fix. -Original Message- From: Richard [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: October 31, 2008 3:41 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [Bug 160311] Re: Window Resize Difficult (Window Border Thickness) Ubuntu aims to be usable by ordinary human beings and accessible to the disabled. -- Window Resize Difficult (Window Border [The entire original message is not included] -- Window Resize Difficult (Window Border Thickness) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/160311 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 185311] Re: hardy, locking assertion failure, xorg/libsdl
Bryce, as far as fixing the applications are concerned, I don't quite follow why applications that used to work need to be fixed because libxcb apparently one way or another changes an API contract that it has no business of changing. That being said, if somebody claims its the application's fault, I'd really appreciate some information about what I need to fix around somthing that wasn't even apparently broken with Xlib. I can attach 3 backtraces of various ways xvidcap deadlocks with libxcb (variant 3 resulting in a complete X11 lockup, so I need to ssh into the box and kill xvidcap). The only thing I can see is that in one thread I'm trying to do XShmGetImage on a locked X display while in the other thread GTK does its stuff. Have I been doing this completely wrong for years without noticing? And I've just recorded more than an hour of screencasts without a single hang with your non-xcb libraries. [Bug 291477] [NEW] Icons do not change when changing icon theme
Public bug reported: Most of icons do not change when changing icon theme. This is for folder icons, icons of disk drives, icons of computer, home folder, network servers, trash, .exe files etc. Some themes though, change more icons than others. For example, some themes change folder icons while others do not. Not only in Nautilus affected: in other applications icons may change and may not, sometimes in Nautilus icons do not change while in other applications do. In gnome-appearance-settings in theme previews icons always displayed as it should be. There is a workaround, the following commands executed in the theme folder: cd ~/.icons/OSX/scalable/places/ ln -s gnome-fs-directory.png folder.png ln -s gnome-fs-directory.png gtk-directory.png But this works only for one theme and only for folder icon.
