[Bug 278078] Re: The key repeat delay for the down-arrow, left-arrow, and End keys is longer than the other keys

2008-11-23 Thread Rob Speer
Bug 264196 seems to be describing the same issue, but over there they've
found a few workarounds! Here's the one that worked for me with the
least nasty side-effects:

Add this to the end of xorg.conf:

Section ServerFlags
Option AutoAddDevices off
EndSection

The downside is that any extra keys on your keyboard (such as
multimedia keys) won't work.

[Bug 278078] Re: The key repeat delay for the down-arrow, left-arrow, and End keys is longer than the other keys

2008-11-23 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
Rob,

The AutoAddDevices OFF workaround works as you tell:

1. Fix the repeat delay problem for the left, down end keys.
2. Fix the repeat speed problem (the keys seems to be faster when you press and
hold down any of them).
3. However (sadly) the multimedia keys no longer works.

Obviously, this is a step forward, while waiting for an upstream
developer solution.

[Bug 301235] [NEW] nautilus does not display network and network folders, however network files are accessable using smb://diskstation/folder/

2008-11-23 Thread kikl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I'm using nautilus 2.24.1. on my desktop computer running ubuntu 8.10.
The computer is connected to a synology diskstation DS107+ via a router.
The diskstation is my file server. The server name on the network is
diskstation. The diskstation is not displayed, in network:/// or smb:///
on nautilus. If I enter smb://diskstation/ the folders on the
diskstation are not displayed. However, once I enter
smb://diskstation/foldername/ I can access the files on the diskstation.

So, apparently, the file server is working, but nautilus isn't
displaying the top level folders as it should.

I hope you can fix this.

[Bug 301239] [NEW] popup mismatch in grouped view of todo-list

Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 8.10 / Evolution 2.24.1

When tasks are just listed (sorted or no), a detail popup appears when
the mouse stays over a task.

When tasks are grouped on one field, the detail popup doesn't correspond

Sure it's relevant. It's possible to activate the control-center using

that it will show by default in the future (I'm still hoping...). The
upstream bug is still open so it's worth keeping this open, I think.

[Bug 301270] [NEW] Rhythmbox randomly keeps running in the background and won't restart until killed

2008-11-23 Thread Milan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

This is in Intrepid, rhythmbox 0.11.6svn20081008-0ubuntu4.2.

From time to time, when I try to start Rhythmbox, it does nothing.
Actually, using a terminal and --debug, I saw new instances of rhythmbox
are just exiting normally: there is already a running instance in the
background, which is not visible. A mere 'killall rhythmbox' stops this
process and allows me to run Rhythmbox again. My guess is Rhythmbox does
not stop completely when I close it.

I could not find any clear reason why sometimes this happens and
sometimes not.

[Bug 301240] [NEW] Insufficient space on media

2008-11-23 Thread KevinM
Public bug reported:

Using Hardy Heron 2.6.24-21-generic #1 SMP Tue Oct 21 23:09:30 UTC 2008 x86_64
GNU/Linux on AMD64X2 PC. Brasero version 0.8.1.
I'm using DVD-RW 4x compatible media. The DVD has an old ISO on it and I wish
to erase and burn a new ISO file to it. The old ISO was 1.4Gb prior to
deletion. I select Burn Image, the ISO on my Desktop, and the program asks me
whether I want to erase the old disk. I accept and the disk starts to be
erased. I then get an error that there is insufficient space on the disk (see
brasero-error.png screenshot). The disk is ejected with the error displayed and
the 'erasing' message is still active. I close the brasero windows an program.
Start to report this bug and close drive with DVD still inserted. Run up
brasero again to check version and try to run again to check messages. When
selecting Burn Image I get a new error occur (see Screenshot-Image Burning
Setup.png) - the media is not writable with the current set of plugins.
Drive is a TSSTcorp CDDVDW SH-S202J PATA.

[Bug 301282] [NEW] Thinkpad T60: Brightness is not at maximum, despite brightness indicator

2008-11-23 Thread shap
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Hello !
I installed Ubuntu 8.10 on my ThinkPad T60 Type: 1951-AG6.

Problem:
Brightness applet shows that I am at 100% brightness but I still one step
behind.
I can press Fn-Home to increase it one step more.

So I find myself pressing Fn-Home every time after returning from hibernation
or after
restart.

Brightness also changing to one step behind intermidiate - probably
related to gnome power management module.

[Bug 301287] [NEW] Rhythmbox freeze between tracks

2008-11-23 Thread Felix Crux
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Although this does not happen consistently, Rhythmbox has had a number
of complete freezeups when switching tracks. The UI becomes somewhat
blanked out (outlines of some elements are visible, but no text or
widgets), and sound output stops. The app becomes completely
unresponsive and has to be killed.

After relaunching Rhythmbox, attempting to play a track results in the
message Couldn't start playback: failed to open output device. Some
other sound-capable apps are also affected: after such a crash, both VLC
and Totem lose audio capabilities, but others, for example, embedded
flash (e.g. YouTube) plays fine.

Running Jaunty (9.04) alpha 1.

[Bug 259385] Re: Intrepid Compiz hangs on login for i830MG, i845, and i945GM video cards

2008-11-23 Thread glennric
I find it a tad annoying that although this bug is widely confirmed the
importance is still marked as undecided and it has not been assigned to
anyone to repair. I am referring to the bug in the intel drivers, which
is still marked as confirmed but not fixed. A workaround was been
implemented in compiz, and then this was forgotten. Seems to be the
theme with Intrepid. Display issues abound. Yet nothing is done.

[Bug 301335] [NEW] Cannot create new PGP key with Expiration Date unchecked

2008-11-23 Thread John Watts
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: seahorse

Create a new PGP Key and fill in the relevant details. Uncheck
Expiration Date. This field is confusingly named, but I know there is
already bug about that. Anyway, I would expect a dialog box allowing you
to choose the expiration date, but there is none. And if you click
create and create a passphrase, the create fails with the text
bigbCouldn't generate PGP key/b/big. I can definitely create a
key if I don't uncheck this box and set the expiration date after
creation.

breakage in X with the keyboard and touchpad if the first thing I do is

2008-11-23 Thread Connor Imes
Resetting with
gconftool --recursive-unset /apps/gnome-power-manager
did not fix the problem. Attached is the default settings anyway. In fact, it
seems to have killed the power applet in the tray when I unplugged the power.

Last but not least, I am using Intrepid:

[Bug 301369] [NEW] renaming files does not change filename-extension

2008-11-23 Thread Martin Kossick
Public bug reported:

When renaming multiple files, gthumb does not change filename-extensions.
As a result, the new files can have mixed uppercase/lowercase
filename-extensions.

extensions.

[Bug 301389] [NEW] Brightness applet does not work correctly on a Macbook

2008-11-23 Thread Guttorm Flatabø
I have the same problem in OOo 3.0 on Ubuntu 8.10. The files rw or read-only.
Here's a workaround to get read access though:
Gvfs has its own folder in the home folder called .gvfs where you can access
all gvfs mounted drives. If I navigate to the file and open it through
Nautilus, OOo will open it read-only.

[Bug 293310] Re: goes to foreground at reload but is not focussed

2008-11-23 Thread spapani
I observe the same problem, also Ubuntu 8.10 with 2.24.1-0ubuntu1 with
visual effects disabled. The simplest way I can recreate this behaviour
is:

$ echo 'showpage'  test.ps
$ evince test.ps
$ touch test.ps

As mentioned above, after the last command the evince window comes to
the foreground but is not focused.

The auto-reloading function was mentioned in
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=304249

I believe that the correct behaviour would be for evince to stay in the
background, not come to the foreground and get focus as the original
post suggests.

2008-11-23 Thread TonyGould
on hardy I added the following to /etc/rc.local, which did the trick.
Replace USERNAME with your user name. Be warned it's possible it might
delete some settings that you like so take a copy of .nautilus first!

find ~USERNAME/.nautilus -type f ! -name
'file:%2F%2F%2Fhome%2FUSERNAME%2FDesktop.xml' | xargs rm

[Bug 301423] [NEW] f-spot imports files with special characters in names but does not display the photos correctly on restart

2008-11-23 Thread pbrownsey
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

Running: ubuntu 8.10, kernel linux 2.5.27-7 generic, GNOME 2.24.1
f-spot:
  Installed: 0.5.0.3-0ubuntu4
  Candidate: 0.5.0.3-0ubuntu4
  Version table:
 *** 0.5.0.3-0ubuntu4 0

100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 0.5.0.3-0ubuntu2 0
500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com intrepid/main Packages

I have JPG image files with names like [EMAIL PROTECTED]
The # and @ characters in the file names cause problems for f-spot, regardless
of whether or not I choose to copy the files to the Photos folder on import.

Immediately after import, the images display correctly. After restarting
f-spot, the images no longer display correctly.

1. Import files that contain # and @ characters in their filenames.
2. f-spot displays the images no problem.
3. Quit f-spot.
4. Start f-spot.
5. f-spot no longer displays the images: it shows empty boxes in their place.

Looking at the photos table in photos.db I see that the example image name
given above shows in the uri column as:
file:///home/paul/Pix/2007.03.15%23022%40italy.rome.yummy.pasta.jpg

I guess the %23 and %40 stored by f-spot's import feature prevent f-spot
from loading the images correctly after a restart.

[Bug 301426] [NEW] can't navigate DVD in totem-gstreamer

2008-11-23 Thread Alex
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem-gstreamer

I try to play DVD whith totem-gstreamer in Ubuntu 8.04. It start playing but no
menus or other navigation work. And I can't see DVD with this player. It can
play only intro video. Then I try to start from command line (totem-gstreamer
/media/cdrom0) but no effect.
I see the gstreamer is bad and have bugs. Better use xine. Totem-xine can play
DVD with menus. Best is using latest version of xine. In Hardy Heron repository
old version of xine (have bugs). In Intrepid Ibex repository more stable
version (I not found bugs yet).

I use Ubuntu 8.04.1, Linux kernel 2.6.24-21-generic and all updates
from official Hardy Heron repository.

[Bug 301432] [NEW] 3D Chess mode generates confusing error in Live CD, desktop

2008-11-23 Thread Scott Ritchie
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-games

Switching Chess to 3D mode in a Live CD session, or in a freshly
installed desktop generates this mess:

--
You are unable to play in 3D mode due to the following problems:
No Python OpenGL support
No Python GTKGLExt support

Please contact your system administrator to resolve these problems, until then
you will be able to play chess in 2D mode.
--

This is even true after enabling restricted drivers (amd64) on Intrepid.
Why do we do this at all? We should instead tell the user what packages
to install (python-gtkglext1 and python-opengl) and provide an easy
button for them to do that.

I didn't experience this bug on a Asus Z53S / F3S for a while, tough
suspend/resume was working like a charme. As resume is broken completely
in Intrepid with 2.6.27-7 since my latest upgrades, this doesn't matter
that much at the moment ...
