[Bug 376310] Re: movie player (totem) closes when media is launched. does not play media.

2009-05-14 Thread John Parnell
** Description changed:

+
+ *I have the same problem: Movie Player closes after inserting DVD. Also
closes when attempting to play Real or winmedia files on my Dell GX270 box. The
strange thing is that I don't have the bug on my Dell GX260 - both boxes used
the same install cd for 9.04 - I used the Ubuntu restricted extras for each
as well...*
+
  Binary package hint: totem

Totem Movie Player opens fine and seems to find media, except launching.
When i open the player i can load media but as soon as i try to launch
it, Totem closes. Every time. I tried re-installing the packages, but no
luck. This is strange because i didn't have this problem while using
Ubuntu 8.10 (just upgraded to 9.04.) This renders the media player
useless on my system. What a PAIN! I hope a fix is made. Thanks
  Canonical.

2009-05-14 Thread Thurston Sebotsane
Hi Sebastien. I am still fairly new to ubuntu, I followed all the steps
in http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProgramCrash. Now for me to do a
backtrace, I need to know the name of the application that I can include
it in the GDB command. My problem is with the Desktop, what is the
application name that I need to use for this?

[Bug 373209] Re: Saved screenshot doesn't appears until user edits file

2009-05-14 Thread KOT
Thanks for information and links. I'm really novice in Ubuntu. As for package,
i'm using Ubuntu Desktop 9.04, kernel linux 2.6.28-12-generic, and as for
graphic environment, i'm using gnome. In the description of bug reproducing I
had made a mistake. Under Dashboard i mean Desktop. So, for reproducing
bug, you should open Desktop, click any file and press F2 button. After that,
on keyboard press Print Screen button and in appeared menu click Save
button.
In my work, sometimes I have to do a lot of screenshots. My screenshots are
stored in the Desktop. How I was surprised when one day I made a 7 screenshots,
and suddenly did not find them on Desktop. It turned out that before doing the
screenshots, I began to rename file to Desktop, and forgot to complete the
renaming. And when I have finished renaming the file, all my screenshots have
appeared on the Desktop. Now, I hope my explanation more accurate. =)

[Bug 376364] [NEW] Evolution stops connecting to internet

2009-05-14 Thread bdoe
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

After an indeterminable period of time after being launched, Evolution
will no longer communicate with the Internet. Internet connection is
fine, all other applications can access it without any problems, but
Evolution will hang trying to load images or upload/download new
messages. This behavior appears most likely to happen after importing
messages, after creating new message-filtering rules, or simply after
being left open for a few hours. The only remedy is to shut down and
restart Evolution.

It is important to note that Evolution itself does NOT appear to be hung
at any time. It just simply acts like it cannot find an internet
connection and waits indefinitely for one to appear. Evolution does
respond appropriately to user cancellation of image downloading or
connection attempts to POP3 servers.

Affects: Evolution 2.26.1 on Ubuntu 9.04

Re: [Bug 339783] Re: Separate X-screen, apps launched from 2nd screen appear on first screen

2009-05-14 Thread Vincent Gerris
Dear Sebastien,

In my opinion, this is not a duplicate?
This bug is about applications not starting on the right screen, the other
is specificly on loading.
Please don't simply try to close off bugs, although I know that is
important.
I do believe the bugs are related, unfortunately Gnome devs are silent.

regards,
Vincent

 Bug description:
My system is using NVidia's separate X-screen instead of TwinView. If I
click Places-Home Folder in the 2nd screen it opens in the first screen.
 This is 100% reproducible.

 Same behaviour observed if running
 DISPLAY=:0.1 nautilus --browser
 or if running from Alt-F2

However, for gnome-terminal, running from the menus opens it in the wrong
 (first) screen, but running
 DISPLAY=:0.1 gnome-terminal
or running from Alt-F2 opens it in the correct (2nd) screen.

Firefox/thunderbird open properly in the 2nd screen in all cases.
Compiz-config settings manager has same behaviour as gnome-terminal. Problem
 seems to be non-app specific.

 http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1089578 shows another user with
the same problem. May be linked to the binary nvidia, am unable to test
without since I'm not aware of any way to get separate X with nv or mesa.

[Bug 376296] Re: When in display, no top margin, no buttom margin, it cuts by half the letters

2009-05-14 Thread Lars Ljung
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description
didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read How
to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 376053] Re: navigating in nautilus causes external drives to spin up

2009-05-14 Thread Alexander Krivács Schrøder
One is a Maxtor Onetouch III, the other is a Seagate FreeAgent Desktop.
If it matters, they are both cryptsetup LUKS disks.

I just tested in gedit, and using the file selector did not cause the
drives to spin up. Then I tried navigating nautilus again, and this
time, just the Maxtor disk spun up. Then I let it spin down, and I tried
navigating again, and this time, neither of them spun up.

This flaky behavior makes it a lot harder to figure out what the trigger
is, I'm afraid...

[Bug 376394] [NEW] gedit auto scrolling to wrong place when click on it

2009-05-14 Thread code_u11
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

To reproduce this bug:

1. open a text file with 100+ lines in gedit.
2. Click on line 1.
3. Then right click in gedit.
4. Left click elsewhere to close to context menu.
5. Scroll to elsewhere (scroll to line 100 for better effect) until line 1 is
out of screen.
6. Then click on whatever line (e.g. 100) on the screen.
7. Now gedit would scroll back to original line (line 1) which you first
clicked on instead of the line (line 100) you just clicked.

confusing and seem different issues, closing this one since that's not
really a software bug, open new bugs if you still have issues on jaunty
