[Bug 420434] Re: Replace wodim dependency with dvd+rw-tools

2009-09-07 Thread Savvas Radevic
For clarification, Luke *is* right :)

The changelog reads:

commit 383b92e77755a2337720d6656e6cdefc872025d6

Add checks for disc flags
Sometimes when things fails (with wodim) it can happen that the disc is
flagged as APPENDABLE UNFORMATTED: don't allow it

commit 00af68e556bc8d2dfbab093e629f60ce9aaef66d

Don't set DAO for DVDs
DAO doesn't help for anything and leads to have wodim chosen instead of
growisofs which we don't want
Also remove a debug statement

[Bug 400863] Re: ck-history can take a *long* time to run, during which gdm is unusable

2009-09-07 Thread Robert Ancell
I've made a patch that caches the result of ck-history so there is no delay on
startup (patch also upstream):
lp:~ubuntu-desktop/gdm/ubuntu

The cached version is used on startup and then updated once ck-history
completes. The information is only used for ordering the user list so
out-of-date information should not cause any serious problems. The
first startup will be delayed until the cache has been written to.

[Bug 408647] Re: totem crashed with SIGSEGV in free()

2009-09-07 Thread Robert Ancell
Upstream responds regarding why the subtitles aren't displayed in this case:
I've tested that file, and the subtitles are very large images, including large
amounts of blank space, so when clipped you just see part of the image, which
happens to be within the transparent border.
A fix could be to look inside the subtitles, trim transparent borders, and
center the rest, but it really should be fixed encoding side, and this goes
into diminishing returns.

+ Big navigation bars waste valuable screen space and are U-G-L-Y! Maximizing
screen space for actually viewing web pages is important. Chromium has done an
incredible job at this. We can try to do the same with simple things like:
+ Merging the search and URL bar: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/343400
+ Star for bookmarks: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/343401
+ etc, etc.

- Big navigation bars waste valuable screen space and are U-G-L-Y!
+ Of course, we shouldn't copy chromium, but make our use of space more
+ efficient in the way we see fit. Bottom line though, we need to use
+ screen space more efficiently.

Click on System tab and then users and groups starts the users-admin

Throws a cannot start configuration error in a dialog box with only an

Work around is to start a process that requires admin authentication then
restart. This seems to fix it for the rest of the time that the user is logged
in.
If admin authorisation has already been requested for a different process the
error is not seen.

On my set-up the admin authorisation is rescinded when the requesting
process terminates.

[Bug 418910] [NEW] Shutdown delay dialog could be more discriminate

2009-09-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Jaunty (gnome) shutdown applet modifications need rough spots removed

Some people seem to like the addition to the shutdown gui which is new
with Jaunty (gnome), especially those who network their system or share
their computer. The rest of us don't need a shutdown delay of 60 seconds
(and isn't that much time a bit excessive?), especially when we are
restarting just to make a new program work, or while troubleshooting.
The shutdown applet should be more discriminate in producing that delay
dialog, in other words, the system should know whether there are other
open sessions, so that it will shut down or restart without any further
hassle to the single user.

[Bug 418633] [NEW] font viewer returns failed on installing of already existing font instead of already installed or something

2009-09-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I open a font, Font Viewer shows an active button Install Font,
no matter is it already installed or not. If I click the button and the

right after loading preview and offer installation only if the font
isn't installed.

[Bug 424435] Re: Cannot be logged in to gnome desktop after upgrading to karmic alpha5

2009-09-07 Thread LGB [Gábor Lénárt]
I managed to start gnome components manually from an xterm (gnome-
session, gnome-panel, metacity, nautilus) so it seems it works this way
(just gnome-session is not enough, maybe it stucks somewhere and that's
the reason it does not work?), but nautilus segfaults every time (but
maybe it's another bug).

[Bug 418516] [NEW] Shutdown applet beeps from the tower box, ignores sound clip system for logout.

2009-09-07 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I never had this problem with Intrepid, as reported in a similar report
- this is with Jaunty (gnome). The problem, which Ubuntu engineers have
acknowledged as being associated with a Jaunty's modification to the
standard gui shutdown applet (the delay cycle), is that the applet
functions which terminate a session end it with a beep from the tower
box, and not the default or user-specified sound clip on the
System-Preferences-Sounds Logout line. This issue has been reported
by other users in forums, but no solutions have been offered.

[Bug 424941] Re: natilus seems to start and crash, had to manully start it

2009-09-07 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. However, your crash report is either missing or challenging to deal
with as a '.crash' file. Please follow these instructions to have apport report
a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport
in /etc/default/apport and restart.

If you are using Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop environment - launch nautilus
and navigate to your /var/crash directory and double click on the crash report
you wish to submit.

If you are using Kubuntu or Xubuntu you can file the crash using
/usr/share/apport/apport-qt --crash-file=/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash in a
terminal - where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report.
I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more efficiently.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 425573] [NEW] DVD with no audio

2009-09-07 Thread Andreas K
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

I tried to play my new DVD, and it plays fine, except for the fact that
there is no sound. I have tried other DVD:s and they work fine, with
sound.

I usually have PAL based DVD:s. This is my only NTSC DVD. I have no idea
if this is relevant.

I have tried another Gstremer based application (Arista) and it also has
problems with this DVD. This leads me to suspect this to be a Gstreamer
problem rather than Totem, but I do not know.

It works fine in VLC.

[Bug 223987] Re: reversed image with webcam Logitec 09b2

2009-09-07 Thread Hans de Goede
Hi,

This is certainly not an ekiga bug (it will happen with any application), but
rather a hardware issue. The webcam has been
mounted upside down in the frame, the vendor probably solves this by providing
a custom driver which corrects this in software,
if you would use the default microsoft UVC driver in windows the image would be
upside down too.

In Linux, the upside down problem for UVC camera's is solved in
userspace by the libv4l library. libv4l has the ability to correct the
upside down image, but it needs to know that the webcam is mounted
upside down to begin with. In order for libv4l to know this it has a
table of laptops which are known to have their webcam upside down.

Chances are good your laptop is already in this table, so first please try the
latest libv4l:
http://people.atrpms.net/~hdegoede/libv4l-0.6.2-test.tar.gz
Which I've just updated with a table entry for the Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook
P7230

Installation instructions are here:
http://hansdegoede.livejournal.com/7622.html

If that does not help, your laptop probably needs to be added to the upside
down devices list, see this post for the information
I need for this:

[Bug 424997] Re: sudo nautilus does not open gui
