Same behavior here as #8 on an nVidia 6200 card (with proprietary
drivers). Pressing Return will redisplay the greeter, this time visible
(I know it is a redisplay, because I can hear the sound). Ubuntu Lucid

I am testing Lucid using VirtualBox on a machine with a lot of RAM (8
GB). Rebooting is very fast (about 10 seconds).
I have configured auto-login. At the first login, the Gnome desktop

For the codec detection problem part, seems to happen with lossless wma
files. But maybe it should be better to fix the codec asking loop
which should apply to people which haven't universe enabled (because
they don't want) or don't want to install some non-free codecs it may
propose to install.
