[Bug 559111] Re: metacity crashes on login - no window manager
I reinstalled ubuntu-desktop to no avail. gnome-desktop-environment isn't installed at all on my system, according to synaptic. If I select it to be installed, synaptic lists a large number of packages it additionally needs, some of which look quite redundant to what I think I have currently running, so I refrained from installing them. I realized I was not really using the latest metacity version during my post #6 (as you can see in the appended crash file to #5), and the crash during right-clicking in the title bar is gone now. Nonetheless, I still have to start metacity manually after login to get my window decorations. I don't see any .crash file in /var/crash, though. I'm appending my ~/.xsession-errors to this post, in case this helps. Where can I find more information about metacity starting up, to hunt down this bug? I did not find any metacity entries in /var/log/messages or /var/log/Xorg.0.log, for example. ** Attachment added: .xsession-errors http://launchpadlibrarian.net/43651845/.xsession-errors -- metacity crashes on login - no window manager https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/559111 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 559914] [NEW] wmv video file handled incorrectly on replay
Public bug reported: OS: Ubuntu 10.04 beta2 + all updates from update-manager Player: Totem Movie Player 2.30.0 using GStreamer 0.10.28 Attachment: movie that is causing the bug I don't know if this is a codecs or Totem or GStreamer problem... I played the movie on freshly installed Ubuntu 10.04 so first it required two codecs (didn't write them down but they are the default that Totem finds - no other codec packages were installed). When you open the the movie plays normally till the end, but when it should be set back to beginning and paused, it rewinds to the middle of the movie and pauses there. If you play it again it plays form the middle to the end. If you try to move the progress bar to the beginning it jumps back to the middle and plays from there to the end, so the only time it plays from beginning is when you first open the file. Afterwards I tested the same movie on Vlc player where it repeats correctly but I noticed that the progress bar doesn't go to the end - the movie end is shown before that. I guess that the problem in Totem is caused by wrong encoding of the movie(it says in the file that the movie is longer than it really is) and Totem doesn't know how to correctly reset movies initial starting point. Hope this helps. [Bug 559938] [NEW] Totem opens new window to play movie in
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem OS: Ubuntu 10.04 beta2 + all updates from update-manager This happens only the first time right after you install package gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad for MPEG-4 AAC decoder. Totem opens a new window just to play movie in it(no buttons or anything else in that window). How to repeat: 1. You go to Youtube search menu in Totem. 2. Find a song. 3. right mouse click on it and select Add to Playlist. 4. Totem complains that codec is missing so let him search for it. 5. Totem finds package gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad with MPEG-4 AAC decoder 6. Install the package 7. Totem starts to play the song but opens a new external window only for the movie(otherwise plays normally) Additional: If you close the window with the movie Totem still plays the movie but time of playing doesn't move forward and clicking on pause/play button after the song ends doesn't do anything. Every next time that you play a song Totem behaves correctly (no external window for the movie). To repeat the bug after the first song just go to synaptic package manager and completely remove package gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad and then repeat the process described above. Hope this helps. [Bug 546583] Re: Button pressed event registered by wrong window
** Summary changed: - Drags the wrong window + Button pressed event registered by wrong window ** Description changed: - Binary package hint: metacity + Windows maximized via a double click on their title bars will register the next + mouse button pressed event even if they are not the target. - If I try to drag a window that overlays a previously maximized window, - the maximized window will be picked instead. - - This happens with nvidia-current and -nouveau, 'Appearance Preferences - Visual Effects' set to 'None', and only if the other window was - maximized using a double click on its title bar (using the maximize - button won't trigger the bug). - - Steps to reproduce (doesn't matter which programs you use): + Example 1 - Dragging the wrong window: 1.) Open Nautilus (make sure it's not maximized) 2.) Double click on the title bar to maximize it (don't use the window button) - 3.) Start gnome-terminal - 4.) Try to drag the terminal around + 3.) Start gnome-terminal and try to drag it around + 4.) You should have dragged Nautilus instead - = You should be dragging Nautilus instead. + Example 2 - Closing/minimizing/restoring the wrong window: - Metacity was my best guess, sorry if that's wrong. + 1.) Open Nautilus and maximize it (using the window button) + 2.) Open gnome-terminal and maximize it (using a double click on the title bar) + 3.) Bring Nautilus to front (via Alt+Tab or the window list in the bottom panel) + 4.) Click on Nautilus' close/minimize/restore button + 5.) You should have closed/minimized/restored gnome-terminal instead + + Of course it's not limited to those two programs. + + This doesn't happen with compositing/compiz enabled. [Bug 437429] Re: No GUI to configure/disable login sound
Something about this is still not right. I'm running Lucid beta, updated to current packages. I have Play login sound disabled in Login Screen Settings, and yet when I log in, I still get a login sound. This machine was a fresh install of Lucid, but instead of drum sounds on login, I'm getting the old music score. -- No GUI to configure/disable login sound https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/437429 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 221112] Re: Can't use space bar in search bar when using french alternative keyboard
Come on, this is a *huge* usability issue affecting almost all French users and which can be fixed by changing a single default option. [Bug 560036] [NEW] New panel's are set to 0 0 by default
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel When I make a new panel all the desktop icons and shifted down by the default height of the panel and I can't drag windows to the top of the screen. This wouldn't matter much, but I can't do anything with the panel, it's like its not even there. A bit like a placeholder. To reproduce ( on my system at least): Make a panel, go into Gconf, change the x and y values to 0 and 0, and y_bottom to -1. To fix, enable and disable autohide in GConf, as you can't do it in the affected panel(s). This continues to happen after multiples restarts. Using version 1:2.30.0 in lucid beta 1 and 2.
