[Bug 614919] [NEW] horrible distortion playing certain ALAC files (regression?)

2010-08-08 Thread jimav
Public bug reported:

totem plays certain ALAC files (.m4a containing Apple Lossless encoding) with
horrible buzzing noises.
The exact same ALAC files decoded by 'alac-decoder' produce clearn .wav files
which play flawlessly.

The problem does not occur with most ALAC files. The one I found was a
mono file, so that might be a clue.

I used ffmpeg version SVN-r0.5.1-4:0.5.1-1ubuntu1 to encode the ALAC file,
alac-decoder 0.1.3-0ubuntu3,
and totem 2.30.2-0ubuntu1

Here is the flow:

$ ffmpeg -i orig.wav -acodec alac alac.m4a  # encode as alac
$ totem alac.m4a  # horrible buzzing sounds
$ alac-decoder alac.m4a  decoded.wav
$ totem decoded.wav # plays cleanly

I'll attach an archive of the above files. Fortunately they are short.

[Bug 603746] Re: the word 加入 in grou p managment should be 新增

2010-08-08 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
I don't believe that would improve things. The confusion is not around
the fact that the list represents groups: it's quite obvious, since the
list in the main window represented users, and you clicked on Manage
Groups. The problem can be that we don't know whether the groups are
those present on the system, or those the user is member of - this comes
from the fact that it's hard to find a correct place for the Manage
Groups button. Maybe I can put it under the users list in the main
window, to make it clear that it's a global option?

[Bug 93847] Re: Excessive CPU usage by Gnome System Monitor

2010-08-08 Thread Lamer
I can confirm this behavior as well on all my computers (laptop with C2D
T5600, desktop with Athlon 64 3000+, desktop with Athlon XP 2000+) which
I recently updated to Lucid.

One more thing, probably not related to this bug, but quite annoying is
that on one computer the System Monitor window is stretched over the
panel. So when you start the System Monitor it hides the panel and the
window ignores all attempts to resize or move it (I tried using all the
keyboard shortcuts - which are working on other windows but the System
Monitor) - only thing which works is close or minimize. Sometimes
attempts to move the window especially using expo results in the
excessive CPU usage.

One small thing - the button is not the same size in the different

[Bug 614976] [NEW] [Maverick] Intermittent loss of workspaces

2010-08-08 Thread Dave Gilbert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

I'm seeing very intermittent cases where at startup I only get one workspace
rather than the 9 I normally have in metacity.
I've seen it twice now on metacity (in a month or so use) and never seen it
before.

When it's in that mode, right clicking on the switcher and increasing the
number of workspaces doesn't change it back.
Doing a metacity --replace however works and all is normal.

(I'm not sure if metacity --replace would help even if I hadn't gone to
the switcher config).

I assumed the group list listed in Manage Groups were the user is a
member of (the same reason: I have only ONE user displaying on my screen
then), just like what you have mentioned above. I clicked the Add
button again to give it a try and found out that I was adding a new
group for the system.

That's why I thought it might be better to add User(s): or Groups:.

As to putting the Manage Groups button under the users list, I have no
idea it is better or not... I believe we should listen to others' voice.

[Bug 614988] [NEW] Last.fm plugin can't get playing time from rhythmbox

2010-08-08 Thread belowen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

I'm using rhythmbox version 0.13.0. While I'm listening music from
last.fm plugin on rhythmbox, it scrobbles, but while I'm listening any
song from my library, it doesn't scrobble to last.fm. I have a debug
report from rhythmbox and it says rb-audioscrobbler.c:1154: didn't get
playing time; assuming 0 and after that not queueable: shorter than 30
seconds . I'm attaching debug file and the other information about my
system is at the following lines..thank you.

Description:Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
Release:10.04
Gnome 2.30.2

  Installed: 0.13.0git20100715-0ubuntu4~webupd8~lucid

Kernel Linux 2.6.32-24-generic

Memory 2.0 GiB
Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.86GHz

SHELL=/bin/bash

P.S: I'm reporting my first bug, I've read the guidelines and I've
searched through the other bugs. I hope I didn't miss anything while I'm
writing. Thank you.

[Bug 615071] [NEW] gnome-power-manager crashes on resume from suspend

2010-08-08 Thread PeterPall
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

Since about a week ago the gnome-power-manager has stopped displaying
its regular battery discharging icon when my netbook is not connected
to its power supply (I have configured gnome-power-manager to only
display an icon when the battery is charging or discharging) but a pair
of scissors that - as far as I know means that the said image isn't
available.

I have also configured gnome-power-manager to suspend my system when running
from battery and the netbook is closed, which normally works like magic.
Since gnome-power-manager no more displays the right icon suspending still
works for the first time as does suspending the system by pressing the
suspend key. But on resume the gnome-power-manager crashes, closing the
netbook no more suspends it and pressing the suspend key results in the active
program outputting a message like SF86Sleep is undefined.

starting gnome-power-manager by hand will make power management work
until the next suspend (even if it will still not use the right icon)
and results in loads of warnings that always repeat themselves.

Upon resume gnome-power-manager dies then with the following message:

[Bug 71228] Re: Rhythmbox has no apparent pause button

2010-08-08 Thread Matt Perry
I'm feeling screwed over here. I wrote a patch for this in January and
it's been ignored for nearly seven months. *NO ONE* on launchpad gave me
any feedback on the patch. Then Bilal comes along, writes a nearly
identical patch, and it's accepted and committed. What did I do wrong?
How come Bilal's patch is accepted while mine was ignored? His patch
hasn't even been reviewed! Who committed it and why?

I have nothing against you Bilal, I'm just annoyed with the process.

[Bug 614988] Re: Last.fm plugin can't get playing time from rhythmbox

2010-08-08 Thread belowen
Dear Darran,
1. I set up last.fm plugin from rhythmbox,plugins section (edit-plugins), I
entered my username and password from the plugin configuration and I can
connect to last.fm from plugin right now (I saw that status is OK). But when I
listen an mp3, timeline slider doesn't move. It is like that a song doesn't
play at the time I'm listening the song.
2. I expected that when I listen an mp3 from rhythmbox, last.fm plugin would
scrobble my mp3 to my last.fm account.
3. But I encountered that when I listen any mp3 from rhythmbox, time slider
doesn't move and also last.fm plugin doesn't scrobble that mp3 to my last.fm
account. So I tried to debug the player and I saw that rhythmbox is acting like
that the song has no playing time and it counts zero. Because of that last.fm
can't get the scrobble.

I'm attaching a screenshot from my player. At the time I was listening
an mp3 but slider doesn't move.

I hope I can detailed my situation.

Thank you

Bahar.

[Bug 403135] Re: Notification area icon wrongly rendered/uses bg_color as a background (multiple apps)

2010-08-08 Thread Boris Dalstein
In my case :
Lucid Lynx 32bits, default theme, nVidia card with Xinerama enabled : all (as
far as I know) apps in the notification-area have a white background. (If
Xinerama is disabled, the bug disappear in my configuration...)

I've tried to fix this by modifying the source code of gnome-panel (see
attachment) : I commented out things in appletsnotification-areana-
tray-child.cna_tray_child_realize(GtkWidget *widget) in order to always
use the default alpha drawing mode (it is said that the icon will sit
on top of an ugly gray box). This worked for me, and for other people.
See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1427968page=5 post #48
(I'm seb_42) for more information.

However, in my configuration, this fix seems only to work for the
default theme. So it's clearly not a clean solution, but I thought I had
to post my modifications here, in case it can help.

[Bug 615081] [NEW] log in button is not enabled when adding IRC account

2010-08-08 Thread Leo Arias
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

When I try to add a freenode IRC chat account, the log in button is not
enabled. It is necessary to change the network to something else and
then get back to freenode.

Steps to reproduce:
Go to Edit Accounts
Click the Add button
Select the IRC protocol
(don't change the network, it should be left as Freenode)
Fill the textfields
(log in button is disabled, see attachment)

Workaround:
In order to enable the log in button, change the network to something else than
Freenode and then back.

[Bug 614303] Re: Totem Movie Player cannot Play MP4 Files - It Should at least tell the user this

2010-08-08 Thread PC
I created a newuser as requested. Trying to play the movie produced the
same results, it did not play and no message as to why.

I also tried running totem from the command line, no additional messages seen.
I also tried running totem in dedug mode, no messages that appeared seemed to
relate to the issue:

$ totem --debug
(totem:3534): Totem-DEBUG: Received SaveYourself(SmSaveLocal, !Shutdown,
SmInteractStyleNone, !Fast) in state idle
(totem:3534): Totem-DEBUG: Setting initial properties

(totem:3534): Totem-DEBUG: Creating object of type BBCViewer+TotemPythonPlugin
(totem:3534): Totem-DEBUG: Creating Python plugin instance
(totem:3534): Totem-DEBUG: Finalizing Python plugin instance

After your comment that that's more like a codecs issue and not a totem
bug I remembered that I had previously installed the package (via
synaptic): ubuntu-restricted-extras

I removed this package (via synaptic).
I still got the same response when trying to load the mp4 file, it did not play
and no response at all as to why. Even after a reboot.

The file I am trying to play does appear in the Supported files list
when I was selecting it from within totem, both with and without the
ubuntu-restricted-extras packages installed.

[Bug 615063] [NEW] Floppy inserted in USB drive not automounted

2010-08-08 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

CD or DVD inserted into either builtin CD/DVD drive or USB drive is properly
automounted.
Even a 2GB HP flash stick gets properly automounted.
But insertion of floppy into a Sony USB floppy drive doesn't cause automount,
even though
the drive does feel the insertion. I noticed directory floppy0 already in
/media before I put the floppy
in, with name floppy linked to it. But, after insertion, neither showed
actual contents of floppy. I removed
both names, rebooted, tried again, and still no automount.

Note all USB devices connected to Dell 1764 via a Belkin 7-port USB hub.

See possibly-related bugs #216483 #267622 #611569.

2010-08-08 Thread ludo33200
Same as #7 : no desktop.file found
This bug has other other side effects.

1) The system/preferences/appearance visual effects always returns to normal
however this mode is incompatible with mozilla thunderbird causing the windows
not to refresh
each time i login, i have to set up visual effects none to be able to read
mails !

2) As connected with my user, wenever someone tries to open a new
session without loggin me out, the screen session becomes unusable : the
screen is messed and unusable. The only way to exit from this is a power
off

Not shure this is linked with:
I am also affected with compiz decoration bug wich imposes me to launch compiz

[Bug 615133] [NEW] Nautilus Media Handling does not treat Rockbox devices as Media Players.

2010-08-08 Thread Liftoff
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

The Media Handling feature of Nautilus (formerly gnome-volume-manager, I
believe) does not treat Rockbox-powered media devices as Music
Players.

Steps to Repeat:
1. Open a Nautilus window.
2. Click Edit Preferences
3. Click the Media tab.
4. For Music Player select any program. For this example, I will choose
Rhythmbox.
5. Connect a Rockbox-powered USB music device to the computer.

Expected Result:
After the Rockbox device is connected, Rhythmbox starts automatically.

Actual result:
After the Rockbox device is connected, nothing happens.

** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 588155] Re: randomly gnome-settings-daemon fails to start

2010-08-08 Thread Id2ndR
i have encountered this trouble too. However it doesn't occur at each
boot.

Dist : Ubuntu 10.04 x64
GPU : nvidia 8600GT with driver of serie 256 (from x-swat-x-updates ppa)
GDM : autostartup (without delay)

I tried to got the debug output doing the modification of the attached
patch, but the trouble doesn't appears doing this (at least for the 5
tries I made since this). Maybe others will success in doing this.

My idea is that there is a race condition between dbus and g-s-d that
prevent g-s-d to start if dbus isn't totally ready, but I can't prove
it, and I don't now how to log the startup of dbus and g-s-d.

[Bug 588155] Re: randomly gnome-settings-daemon fails to start

2010-08-08 Thread Id2ndR
Some precisions:
- if g-s-d still doesn't start after applying the modification I added, errors
will be traced in ~/.xsession-errors file.
- if g-s-d start after applying the modification I added, I think this is
because the computation of log(s output take some time and 'slow down the
startup of g-s-d. This may be the sign of the race condition that I suspect,
but it will be harder to debug.
