it seems this is happening all the time. when evolution have been idling
for some time (a couple of hours) it simply cant refresh. i can se in
the titleline that i have new mail, but it is not shown in my inbox
untill i restart evolution

This has been a problem for me through multiple Ubuntu releases and
laptops IIRC. Once in a while, the screensaver does not manage to lock
the screen before the computer is suspended or hibernated. To be sure,
the screen must be locked manually before suspending. Feels like a race
condition

I checked my samba server and it already had that workgroup setting

Can you please make new broken log files as follows: Rerun the gconftool
command as your user, but now with true at the end. When you log in again, it
should be broken. Switch to a console with ctrl-alt-F1 and log in and run:
xrandr --verbose -d :0 xrandr.broken.txt
cp /var/log/Xorg.0.log
Hmmm... I have 2.26.3 and *still* have the crash. Please see bug#305546.

Sorry, forgot to mention that this happens on an up-to-date Lucid, but I
was also able to reproduce it in Maverick. The backtrace was from Lucid.
