[Bug 396015] Re: Invalid range for meters

2010-10-20 Thread Adam Weiss
I would venture the argument that a logarithmic scale would be the best
way to approach this. The autoadjusting linear scale looks pretty, but
does little to convey useful information as to actual utilization or
throughput and is such just plain confusing. I think most users are
probably interested in getting an idea as to the throughput of the
network or disk. Setting maximums specific to machine could make a
pretty graph, but it also involves hidden differences in scale from
machine to machine.

Plus, it would be dead easy to implement.

[Bug 663119] Re: Unneeded items in System Preferences

2010-10-20 Thread Vish
The settings and preferences is being given a makeover as part of GNOME 3, for
its new control center :
http://live.gnome.org/Design/SystemSettings

A library is available for developers wishing to implement new Settings
Panels. If anyone is an app maintainer, they should look into porting
the setting to the new panel api.

This is a major task and not a simple change, Hence marking as Invalid for
papercuts.
I dont expect any changes from an Ubuntu desktop discussion either. Some of the
items are there on purpose and intended, eg: Broadcast [Gwibber] preferences

[Bug 467169] Re: keyboard shortcuts UI issues; fails to set shortcut

2010-10-20 Thread Ian! D. Allen
These bugs still exist in Maverick.

10.10 Maverick: Open: System | Preferences | Keyboard Shortcuts.

Verfify that Toggle maximization state | ALT+F10 works on a window.
Disable the keyboard shortcut with Backspace.
BUG: The UI shows Disabled, but ALT+F10 still toggles maximization.

At this point, the UI shows no mapping for ALT+F10, but the shortcut
still maximizes windows. Disable has done nothing.

Map Toggle maximization state to ALT+MOD4+F10 and verify that it works.
Note that ALT-F10 now does nothing, as expected.
Disable the keyboard shortcut with Backspace.
BUG: The UI shows Disabled, but ALT+MOD4+F10 still toggles maximization.

At this point, the UI shows no mapping for ALT+MOD4+F10, but the shortcut
still maximizes windows. Disable has done nothing.

Map Toggle screen reader to ALT+MOD4+F10.
Disable the keyboard shortcut with Backspace.
Map Toggle maximization state to ALT+MOD4+F10.
Now, ALT+MOD4+F10 does nothing, and no amount of playing around will
get it to do anything. I cannot assign ALT+MOD4+F10 to anything else.

It seems that any shortcut that you assign to Toggle screen reader
gets killed and made useless for anything else.

If you try to assign ALT+F11 or ALT+SHIFT+F11 to two functions, it will
correctly complain and tell you in the reassignment that one will be
disabled. But you can assign ALT+MOD4+F10 or ALT+MOD4+F11 to multiple
functions and it won't complain at all.  One of the functions might work;
the others will be ignored.

Map Toggle maximization state to ALT+F12 and verify it toggles.
Disable the keyboard shortcut with Backspace.
BUG: The UI shows Disabled, but ALT+F12 still toggles maximization.
Map Toggle shaded state to ALT+F12.
BUG: ALT+F12 still toggles maximization, even though the UI says it
should toggle shaded state.
Map Toggle maximization state to anything other than ALT+F12.
Now ALT+F12 correctly toggles shaded state.

This is a mess.

The changes were not present in 2.27.0 so this bug is occurring again.
However the changes are in git master so it will be fixed again in

[Bug 160311] Re: Resizing windows by grabbing window borders is difficult [please no more comments; patches welcome]

2010-10-20 Thread Nattgew
From the huge amount of comments here with people wanting a fix, and the
frequency that this bug would be encountered for the average user, I agree, it
should be higher. A simple task such as resizing a window should work better.
Yet, we must sit here and wish that it would be fixed in Metacity for Ubuntu,
and evidently it's more important that a theme look good than be usable. It
needs to do both.

Re: [Bug 449176] Re: Duplicated external media entries (one mounted, one not)

2010-10-20 Thread Callan Davies
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. A new version of Gnome Disk Utility is available on
Maverick and we are wondering if this bug is still an issue for you with
that version? Could you please test and comment back? Thanks in advance.

Hi Pedro,

I have done all my system updates, and the same problem still exists.

Just to confirm, here's my setup :

  - Thecus N2200 NAS, running SAMBA
  - One share on there is called shared, I mount this to /media/shared
  - One share on there is called media, I mount this to /media/media
  - Ever since this problem first occurred, it's always the media one
that appears twice in my PLACES menu

What I've done for you, is left these two entries in my fstab, but
manually un-mounted them. Then I took a screenshot called
Screenshot-not-mounted.png.

Then I issued the command (sudo mount -a) to mount all shares, and took
some more screen shots.

I also went to PLACES COMPUTER, clicked properties for all the
mounts, and took screenshots of those. It's also interesting that in
PLACES COMPUTER, you'll notice the shared mount has a different
icon to the media mounts.

For reference I have also included my fstab, plus also my /etc/mtab and
output of 'mount' command.

Feel free to request any more tests, I'm happy to help.

Regards,
Callan

[Bug 662022] Re: “放大时平滑图像 ”和“缩小时平滑图像”似乎反 了

2010-10-20 Thread Marcel Stimberg
The issue seems to be in these lines of zh_CN.po (310-317):

#: ../data/eog-preferences-dialog.ui.h:16
msgid Smooth images when zoomed-_in
msgstr 缩小时平滑图像(_I)

# SUN CHANGED MESSAGE
#: ../data/eog-preferences-dialog.ui.h:17
msgid Smooth images when zoomed-_out
msgstr 放大时平滑图像(_O)

The first one (zoomed-in) should be when enlarged. Given the comments
of the OP, these two strings have to be swapped.

I'm adding a translation-team task.

[Bug 643446] Re: Evolution does not show subfolders of IMAP account

2010-10-20 Thread tamalet
I think I've found the problem.
On the mail address I had specified the port number, e.g. m...@mail.com:993.
Removing the port fixed the problem. Luckily this was the default port for
IMAP, otherwise I would be in trouble.

Great monologue any way :)

[Bug 620733] Re: Empathy does not remember settings

2010-10-20 Thread Liam O'Reilly
I have a very similar problem, but I get different error messages.
Empathy will not retain the settings after a relaunch.

I get the following errors when launching empathy from the command line:
** (empathy:pid): CRITICAL **: Unable to contact dconf service

My home directory is mounted via NFS and I think the problem steams from
there or this error is not the problem and I am suffering the exact same
problem as in this thread. However installing libdconf0 did not solve
the problem.

On my other two computers (not using NFS) empathy worked perfectly out
of the box after a fresh install.

[Bug 548546] Re: nautilus not removing device after unmount

2010-10-20 Thread Ayan George

Now I'm seeing that GVolumeManager is emitting the wrong signals when a
loopback device is mounted or unmounted -- it is emitting exactly the opposite
signals it should.

First run this test program:
  https://code.launchpad.net/~ayan/+junk/gio-test

This is what I get:

$ ./gio-test
$ sudo losetup /dev/loop0 /your/favorite.iso
$ sudo mount -t iso9660 /dev/loop0 /mnt
** (process:28520): DEBUG: received drive-disconnected event for '731 MB File'.
** (process:28520): DEBUG: received volume-removed event for 'Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
amd64'.
$ sudo umount /mnt
** (process:28520): DEBUG: received drive-connected event for '731 MB File'.
** (process:28520): DEBUG: received volume-added event for 'Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
amd64'.

Note that when you mount the device, we get a drive-disconnected and
volume-removed event and when we unmount the device, we get a drive-
connected and volume-added event.

But when I mount other devices, gio-test displays the expected output.

[Bug 153301] Re: weather applet won't use automatic-proxy-configuration

2010-10-20 Thread Olivier Godart
Using Ubuntu 10.04, automatic proxy set in the Network proxy gnome
preferences, environment variables are also set (by the same Network proxy
tool) for manual proxy.
The weather applet uses NO proxy and tries to connect directly to
weather.noaa.gov (I saw this in wireshark).

There is no (or I didn't find) verbose or debug option for that applet.
This would be a nice feature to add.

[Bug 630383] Re: Gnome-terminal paste keyboard shortcut does not work

2010-10-20 Thread Julian Taylor
It it severely increases the time needed for copy pasting on the
terminal with a touchpad.

For me this is very annoying, I would like to see this having a higher
priority.

As a workaround I now use xfce4-terminal instead of gnome-terminal on

[Bug 663820] [NEW] Inconsistency: link to folder Desktop translated in side pane

2010-10-20 Thread Hernando Torque
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

In the German translation the folder Desktop is named Arbeitsfläche
in the side pane but shows up as Desktop in the main pane (see first
screenshot). At first I though this is because I changed from the
installation language (English) to the German lang pack, but it also
happens with a pure German system (see second screenshot).

What I expect to see:
- when switching languages: keep the folder names and bookmarks/links (which it
did for folders other than Desktop)
- when installing a non-English system: either translate the folder too or
change the side pane item to Desktop

Don't know if this is a translation, nautilus or gvfs issue.

[Bug 449176] Re: Duplicated external media entries (one mounted, one not)

2010-10-20 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
This bug is an upstream one and it would be quite helpful if somebody
experiencing it could send the bug the to the people writing the
software. You can learn more about how to do this at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME . Thanks in advance!

[Bug 649809] Re: Meerkat (10.10) does not apply theme properly

2010-10-20 Thread Josh
Same bug applies for me with a new installed Ubuntu 10.10.
Nvidia Gtx 460 and core i7.
I can reproduce the behaviour mentioned by Reason (killing and restarting
gnome-settings-daemon as root).
Changing to the the nouveau driver didn't fix the problem for me.
Haven't tried the crappy workaround so far.
I have reinstalled Ubuntu at least three times with different configurations
without success.

Also I have a parallel Ubuntu installation upgraded from 10.04 to 10.10
which does not show the bug. But so far I could not figure out why.

So please increase the importance of this Bug and fix it soon :)
As logs or other information is required please tell me what you need.

[Bug 622175] Re: notification area does not show wireless nm-appet for some users

2010-10-20 Thread Mathieu Trudel
jan,

Do you have any errors in .xsession-errors?

The initial issue you were describing is a known problem that is being
looked at upstream. (I should find which bug this is again)

Reassigning to network-manager-applet so we can look at what's going on
to have nm-applet not show in any user.

** Package changed: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) = network-manager-applet

[Bug 444060] Re: does not show labels for swap partitions

2010-10-20 Thread Martin Lindhe
Pedro: yes the issue still exists.

I just tested with the Gnome Disk Utility found in Maverick, see
attached screenshot.

The screenshot shows me giving the swap partition a name on the command
line and then checking the result in Gnome Disk Utility.

Partition Label field shows a - where it should show swap-linux

[Bug 663901] [NEW] shutdown/reboot in user Gnome session returns to GDM, instead of rebooting

2010-10-20 Thread TomaszChmielewski
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

When I do shutdown or reboot in user Gnome session, it waits a bit, user
is logged out, and I see GDM prompt. There, I have to choose shutdown or
reboot again in order to shutdown/reboot the computer.

I see it on two computers:

- freshly installed 10.10, 64 bit (95% when I try to shutdown/reboot)

- 10.10 upgraded from 10.04, 32 bit (seldom)
