[Bug 667517] Re: font spacing issues in evince
Bug 664061 is different in some ways. While typing in the document, things look OK for the 664061 PDF in evince and in Adobe Reader 9. Also, Adobe Reader 9 can produce a good print or postscript file from that PDF, while evince does not. So evince can handle rendering and typing for that PDF, as can Adobe Reader 9. For 664061, evince can not handle printing (or transforming into a postscript file), while Adobe Reader 9 can. For this PDF, things do not look OK when typing in either evince or Adobe Reader 9. I am curious if the PDF works in any context - on Windows or MacOS, or if it is broken. [Bug 669358] [NEW] Exporting CD Audio disc to library doesn't include all the metadata entered on the metadata entry/lookup screen
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox Purchased a new audio CD (Tiësto - Kaleidoscope) and went to import it to my media library using rhythmbox. In the CD Audio device tab/window, Rhythmbox displayed a message advising me that it couldn't find the album on Musicbrainz, but appeared to have most of the info available via Freedb. I filled in the missing info (Genre, Year), right clicked on the disc in the left hand column and selected Extract to library (I also submitted the disc to Musicbrainz). After rhythmbox had finished importing, I found that the tracks themselves did not include the artist name, track number or year even though I had filled these in and rhythmbox had displayed them on the CD Audio device pane/window/tab. The encoding type I selected for extraction to the library in preferences was originally CD Audio quality (lossless AAC .m4a).. (Incidentally, now I've gone back to check that setting, the preference for AAC has automagically vanished?) [Bug 669358] Re: Exporting CD Audio disc to library doesn't include all the metadata entered on the metadata entry/lookup screen
Metadata not being included aside, the AAC option is back... As far as I can tell what happened was that when I said no to overwriting an existing file (I was retrying the import to see if metadata would appear after I tried using dialog slightly different way) it broke the import process and rhythmbox forgot about AAC and eventually locked up. I killall'd rhythmbox and then restarted it and AAC was back. -- Exporting CD Audio disc to library doesn't include all the metadata entered on the metadata entry/lookup screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/669358 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 195650] Re: Calendar startup and close immediately after 3 Warning that can not open Notize (from a not existing CALDAV)
Hello, I got a similar bug using Ubuntu 10.10 with standard Evolution. I am importing two external calendars. One as iCal from http:// this seems to work well. The other calendar I'm importing via Webcal seems to cause some strange errors. As soon as I open calendar-view in Evolution there are several errors shown, that my tasks, notize, calendars can't be loaded, so every calendar is deactivated. Then I can reactivate the calendars without causing any errors, as far as I'm opening the webcal-calendar first. But my tasks are still not visible. I don't want to always reactivate my calendars and I always want to see my tasks. Hope somebody knows how to fix this. [Bug 667752] Re: Non-embedded standard fonts in PDF files are not displayed/rendered correctly
I think I'm a bit closer in understanding the issue. Thanx to Marcel's PDF creations (thank you Marcel, very appreciated), I've had a file for comparison. As I suspected, there is an encoding-problem or maybe rather an encoding-interpretation-problem. When creating a PDF through PostScript, the issue becomes ironed out, so this issue only arises when creating PDFs directly (like on-demand, streaming PDF's on the internet). My guess is that when Evince encounters an encoding that hasn't been implemented or can't be read, it assumes the encoding should be Identity-H (see the following links) http://indesignsecrets.com/cid-identity-h-fonts-are-back.php http://www.talkgraphics.com/showthread.php?33648-What-is-identity-H Where as xPDF and Adobe Reader, either has the encoding implemented or assumes the encoding is Custom, but display it as Ansi. Evince displays it as Identity-H an tries to draw the text/letters as some weird font or attached vector-graphics image. So there is probably two issues ...one is the PDF creation, which is not always done beautifully ...two is the rendering, which doesn't always account for PDF-format discrepancies. But either way, I would still recommend that the interpretation of discrepancies in Evince should be the same as Adobe Reader and xpdf. (even though I'm a believer of creating data-files according to their definition as agreed) For further testing, you would proberly need to create a PDF that uses the non-embedded fonts AND is created directly, without using any form of PostScript. [Bug 669411] [NEW] brightness key combinations disables entire Linux on Samsung R439 Laptop
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my Samsung R439 Laptop. The keyboard works fine normally, but once I change the brightness by using the Fn+Cursor key combo, then the keyboard stops working. If I press Fn+Up or Fn+Down just once, then the brightness keeps increasing or decreasing continuously and then nothing works. I am unable to type anything using the keyboard. Nothing on the panel works and the color changes upon hovering, but click action just doesnt work. Basically other than moving around the mouse cursor and scrolling up and down the currently open window, nothing else works. The only way out is to press the power button and reboot the system. No other window or menu opens up. I can provide any logs or any extra details that you might want. [Bug 274461] Re: gnome-system-monitor window is semi-transparent when using compiz
It is stupid to have the apps set opacity, that is Compiz' job. If you put the settings in the apps the user has to control them per-app. If you let the compositing manager handle opacity then all the settings are in one place. It's not a feature, it's an intentional bug, and it's done the WRONG way. I would go so far as to say it's done the anti-Unix way, which is to have small tools that work well and don't have too many features. This is definitely a feature that doesn't belong in the tool since the typical desktop already has a mechanism for managing this. [Bug 669465] [NEW] Evolution's e-addressbook-factory process renders CPU usage 100%
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution-data-server I have set-up Evolution email client to access my Gmail and UbuntuOne address books. @Fabio, Sure, just did that, but I don't know if the bug report is being attached properly. I did get a send report popup, but I don't know what happened after that. [Bug 669535] [NEW] desktop mysteriously freezes until keyboard or mouse input
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-terminal Reported this bug as a gnome-terminal issue but it actually affects my entire X desktop. My Ubuntu desktop mysteriously freezes until I press a key on the keyboard or move the mouse. The entire desktop stops updating. The GNOME clock stops ticking off seconds, cursors stop flashing in web browsers or terminal windows. Simply moving the mouse brings everything back to life. The following bash command line shows that this issue is causing processes to block. The gaps below where seconds are skipped are where I saw the desktop freeze, waited a little while, and then moved the mouse to bring everything back to life. The bash process was obviously frozen during the gaps because it didn't print out the missing seconds after the mouse movement. I'm willing to help troubleshoot this issue further. (I'm a C++ programmer.) Note I have a more recent Catalyst driver installed because bugs in the stock Ubuntu Catalyst package were causing me problems (with development of a game). $ while true; do { date; sleep 1; } done Mon Nov 1 11:39:24 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:25 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:26 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:34 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:35 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:44 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:45 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:46 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:47 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:48 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:49 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:50 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:51 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:52 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:53 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:54 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:55 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:56 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:39:57 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:40:03 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:40:04 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:40:05 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:40:06 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:40:07 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:40:08 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:40:09 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:40:13 CDT 2010 Mon Nov 1 11:40:14 CDT 2010 ^C ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: gnome-terminal 2.30.2-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-25.45-generic 2.6.32.21+drm33.7 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-25-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx Architecture: amd64 Date: Mon Nov 1 11:37:46 2010 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala - Release amd64 (20091027) ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: gnome-terminal ** Affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug lucid -- desktop mysteriously freezes until keyboard or mouse input https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/669535 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
