I just ended up rebuilding my libvte9 package with the patch, and the
problem is gone.

Still not fixed for me either.

What you need to do if you were hit by the issue in this bug is to update the
package information in Synaptic or Update Manager or via sudo apt-get update
in a terminal window. Then, if you upgrade again, the issue should be resolved.
