First of all thank you for your efforts to help me in this
situation.Today while i was working on the internet ,i saw on the side
the software update that i didn't have asked about it and when i tried
to open it so i could watch on my screen what was this update the screen
I'm attaching a valgrind report with full debugging symbols. The memory
leak is very notorious.
In some other place I read that it had something to do with using the
weather, and that removing all locations appears to prevent the leak.
The valgrind report seems to confirm that.

I distinctly remember having processes stuck in D state, unkillable even with
-9.
Nevertheless, killing the processes for example during a move could cause data
loss, as reported above.

I tried the sru1 PPA, but it didn't work for me. I ended up with 2
pidgin processes (one of which was defunct), and no UI whatsoever.
When I kill -HUP the living pidgin process, I'd get a quick flash of the
buddy list window, and then everything would close down. pigden -d logs

- the package in the ppa has the support for autostart delay disabled,
that needs to be restore
- somebody should check that the suspend and lock screen inhibitor still
work, under GNOME and unity
- the support of login to
the patch was dropped in the split to five-or-more in raring as upstream
claimed it was fixed, it seems this is not the case.
the old patch applied to quantal and older still works.

An update on this bug... I have two raring installs. For one of them the
brightness controls work, one doesn't.
The one that doesn't work is a vanilla upgrade to Raring 13.04 from
Quantal 12.10.
The one that works is also an upgrade from 12.10, but there are two major
differences:

disabled after the upgrade and this disables also the short cuts.
