[Bug 875878] Re: Easymp3gain Hangs when clicking Add File or Add Folder

2013-10-27 Thread Mossroy
Thanks Matthias for the suggestion.
I'm using Ubuntu 12.04.3 (64 bits) and tried the packages from Saucy.

The GTK version can not be installed easily because of its dependency on a
newer version of libpango.
But the Qt version can be installed easily and worked for me.

So here is the workaround I used :
- uninstall package easymp3gain-gtk from your system
- download packages easymp3gain-qt and esaymp3gain-data from saucy (currently
version 0.5.0+svn135-4) : http://packages.ubuntu.com/saucy/easymp3gain-qt and
http://packages.ubuntu.com/saucy/easymp3gain-data
- install them

[Bug 1245064] Re: Keyboard Layout Options window is missed in gnome-control-center keyboard

2013-10-27 Thread Norbert
** Description changed:

In next six month 14.04 will be prepared and arrived. It's LTS. So users
of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS may want to update to it.

What they have now (in Ubuntu 12.04.3)?
They have very wide choose of available hotkeys for layout change. Let's see.
In Ubuntu 12.04.3, under gnome-control-center keyboard we have (select tab
Typing, click on link Layout Settings in left bottom corner of window,
press the Options button in the bottom right corner of window, window
Keyboard Layout Options is opened).

This window allows user to set many options.
It allows to set the following:
Adding currency signs to certain keys
   Adding Esperanto circumflexes (supersigno)
   Alt/Win key behavior
   Caps Lock key behavior
   Compose key position
   Ctrl key position
   Japanese keyboard options
Key sequence to kill the X server
   Key(s) to change layout
   Key to choose 3rd level
   Key to choose 5th level
   Miscellaneous compatibility options
   Numeric keypad delete key behavior
   Numeric keypad layout selection
Use keyboard LED to show alternative layout
Using space key to input non-breakable space character

In Ubuntu 13.10 this setup window is missing.
So user will be unable to adjust many layout switching parameters.

For example, under Key(s) to change layout this window has:
  Alt+Caps Lock
  Alt+Ctrl
  Alt+Shift
  Alt+Space
  Any Win key (while pressed)
  Both Alt keys together
  Both Ctrl keys together
  Both Shift keys together
  Caps Lock
Caps Lock (to first layout), Shift+Caps Lock (to last layout)
Caps Lock (while pressed), Alt+Caps Lock does the original capslock action
  Ctrl+Shift
  Left Alt
  Left Alt+Left Shift
  Left Alt (while pressed)
  Left Ctrl
  Left Ctrl+Left Shift
Left Ctrl+LeftWin (to first layout), RightCtrl+Menu (to second layout)
Left Ctrl (to first layout), Right Ctrl (to last layout)
  Left Shift
  Left Win
Left Win (to first layout), Right Win/Menu (to last layout)
  Left Win (while pressed)
  Menu
  Right Alt
  Rigth Alt (while pressed)
  Right Ctrl
  Right Ctrl+Right Shift
  Right Ctrl (while pressed)
  Right Shift
  Right Win
  Right Win (while pressed)
  Scroll Lock
  Shift+Caps Lock
This list is very long but universal. Defined hotkeys are full-functional.
For example if I set Ctrl+Shift for layout changing I can copy and paste in
gnome-terminal with Ctrl+Shift+C / V.
I do not want to post other Keyboard Layout Options features, that missed
in 13.10. But they are of course missed.
- What we have now in 13.10 (ppa or proposed)?
+ What we have now in 13.10 (ppa:attente/1218322 or proposed)?
We have simple shortcuts (for example Alt+Shift and Ctrl+Shift) and do not
have other.

This bug report will be a table of contents of all issues, that are
called from this window and are broken/missed in Ubuntu 13.10. For
example, we can detect and report separate bugreports for each hotkey
which does not work correctly in 13.10.

Keyboard layout switching is most important and most essential
  functionality.

IMHO. I do not agree with GNOME simpilicity/stupidity modern style and I hope
that 14.04 will be polished and full-functional as Precise Pangolin. I
understand that some of the keyboard layout switch options are available in
gnome-tweak-tool, but it is not right place for them. Layout switching is a
common feature, there is no reason to hide it under not-preinstalled tool.
Let's make Trusty Tahr the greatest Ubuntu LTS release!

[Bug 1244529] [NEW] no repaint of unity at end of fullscreen chromium

2013-10-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I use the full screen mode of the Chromium browser and toggle between
maximized and full screen with F11.

When leaving full screen mode the unity areas of the screen does not
repaint properly until after a delay of up to tens of seconds.

I've only seen this behavior with Chromium, not with Firefox or Google
Chrome or other programs in full screen mode.

This behavior is new with Ubuntu release 13.10.

To reproduce:
- start Chromium Browser
- maximize Chromium window (Alt+' ' X)
- enter full screen mode (F11)
- leave full screen mode (F11)
At this point there is garbage above and to the left of the Chromium window.
See the attached screendump.

[Bug 1244548] Re: Keyboard shortcut for changing keyboard layout does not work on lock screen

2013-10-27 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Confirmed. Moreover:
- I can't see any rationale behind not showing the switcher if it's at English.
Definitely looks like buggy behavior rather than good design, leaving the user
clueless why it's sometimes shown and sometimes not. For starter, I'd like to
see confirmation that the layout is English. And maybe I prefer to type my
password in the other layout.
- The indicator looks like a text label. Nothing indicates that it's clickable.
It should look like a button, or dropdown, or such.
- Similarly, it can't be activated from the keyboard (Tab to move focus there,
Enter/Space to toggle).

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-27 Thread Norbert
** Description changed:

A PPA which should provide some relief for this issue is available at
  https://launchpad.net/~attente/+archive/1218322. There still remain
issues regarding keyboard shortcuts though. To install:

  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:attente/1218322
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get upgrade

  === gnome-control-center ===

Impact: the UI to change the layout switching keys doesn't work

  Test case:
  - open gnome-control-center's text input settings
  - click on the next layout key entry
  - try entering a key combinaison (e.g ctrl-space)
  - the UI should reflect the new keys

Regression potential: that UI was not working before, it should only be
an improvement (some key combos are not working as expected, that's
another issue and shouldn't be mixed with this one)

  === gnome-settings-daemon ===

Impact: attempting to change keyboard layouts using only modifier keys
  doesn't work

  Test case:
  - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry
settings
  - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source
['PrimaryShift_L']
  - press and release ctrl+left shift
  - the current input source should change

Regression potential: The input switching shortcut might capture other
non-modifier shortcuts, but users will need to consider this when
choosing their switching shortcut anyways. For users this bug affects,
this represents a working solution for a critical bug.

[Bug 1245064] Re: Keyboard Layout Options window is missed in gnome-control-center keyboard

2013-10-27 Thread Kom-Si
Keyboard layout switching is most important and most essential functionality.
Exactly! That's why 13.10 drove me absolutely nuts. Why would anyone meddle
with functionality that's been Linux's undisputed strength for ages? OK, I
understand progress and all that stuff. But why remove it? Why replace it with
something clearly Apple-like only to discover at release stage that this
applish concoction simply doesn't work (it DID work in final beta)?!
Pathetic. I'm thoroughly disappointed with Ubuntu ATM.

[Bug 1245155] [NEW] Menus are very slow to load

2013-10-27 Thread woollypigs
Public bug reported:

When trying to use menu (File - Edit - Select - etc) it takes at time
over 10 sec to appear and further 3-5sec to load the drop down menus.
Often when switching from another program the previous program is still
there. This does not happen in other programs. This happens with one
small file and with many big files open in Gimp. Gimp used to be nice
and fast, even in 13.10. Not sure which update caused it to slow down,
been running 13.10 beta for a while.

Shortcuts work just fine, I just can't remember them all and therefore
has to use the menu.

[Bug 1245188] [NEW] Unable to set keyboard LED to show alternative layout in gnome-control-center keyboard in Saucy

2013-10-27 Thread Norbert
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 12.04 I was able to set keyboard LED to show alternative layout in

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-27 Thread Norbert
@andrew.y (#218)
I reported a bug about missed LEDs to show alternative layout configuration
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1245188)

** Description changed:

A PPA which should provide some relief for this issue is available at
  https://launchpad.net/~attente/+archive/1218322. There still remain
issues regarding keyboard shortcuts though. To install:

  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:attente/1218322
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get upgrade

  === gnome-control-center ===

  === gnome-settings-daemon ===

Impact: attempting to change keyboard layouts using only modifier keys
  doesn't work

  Test case:
  - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry
settings
  - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source
['PrimaryShift_L']
  - press and release ctrl+left shift
  - the current input source should change

Regression potential: The input switching shortcut might capture other
non-modifier shortcuts, but users will need to consider this when
choosing their switching shortcut anyways. For users this bug affects,
this represents a working solution for a critical bug.

  --

Can't set keyboard layout change to ctrl+shift, Caps Lock, alt+shift
etc. Shift, CapsLock keys are just ignored in settings. Also the
default shortcut was set to Super+Space that is inconveniently,
because Dash is opening when you swich your keyboard layout.

[Bug 1245199] [NEW] Unable to set Miscellaneous compatibility options in gnome-control-center keyboard in Saucy

2013-10-27 Thread Norbert
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 12.04 I was able to set Miscellaneous compatibility options in
gnome-control-center keyboard (for example, I use Shift with numeric keypad
keys works as in MS Windows). Here is a list of all missed feautures:
* Allow breaking grabs with keyboard actions (warning: security risk)
* Apple Aluminium Keyboard: emulate PC keys (Print, Scroll Lock, Pause, Num
Lock)
* Both Shift-Keys together activate Caps Lock, one Shift-Keys deativates
* Both Shift-Keys together toggle Caps Lock
* Both Shift-Keys together toggle ShiftLock
* Default numeric keypad keys
* Enable extra typographic characters
* Numeric keypad keys always enter digits (as in Mac OS)
* Shift cancels Caps Lock
* Shift does not cancel Num Lock, chooses 3rd level instead
* Shift with numeric keypad keys works as in MS Windows
* Special keys (Ctrl+Alt+key) handled in a server
* Toggle PointerKeys with Shift + NumLock

In Ubuntu 13.10 I can't set them from gnome-control-center.

change it back to what you want it to be. Next time you log in it should

After upgrading to Ubuntu 13.10, three times now I've had it crash while
minimzed.

The apport report says gimp-2.8 crashed with SIGSEGV in
g_slice_alloc() and reading unknown VMA.

I have trouble reproducing the error because it only happens when I'm
*not* using gimp.

Still the case in 13.10 !!
For me playing Wav files belongs to the core functionalities from an os, so I
hope it will be fixed soon ! It the 3rd version from ubuntu not beeing able to
play wave files... not really a good point , not sure If we don't need to
reopen bug #1, because the war against microsoft is not won, when I see things
like that !

[Bug 1245214] [NEW] Cannot manually arrange (drag and drop) url desktop launchers after upgrade from ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10

2013-10-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I cannot manually arrange (drag and drop) url desktop launchers after
upgrade from ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10. I get error message (Error while
copying /) with details (Error opening file /: is a directory).
Keep aligned is turned off. This only happens when trying to reposition
url related launchers. Some of the launchers were created by using
Firefox Create Deskcut and some with the older Nautilus Create-
Launcher script.

[Bug 1245226] [NEW] HDMI: audio-video playback too fast

2013-10-27 Thread Fabrizio Gennari
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to Ubuntu 13.10, selecting HDMI as audio output device
is broken.

Audio is played back at high speed. When playing back video clips, the
video frames are also too fast.

This is similar to an old bug I reported some time ago,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/897008 . In that
case, adding radeon.audio=1 to the kernel command line solved.

Now, the configuration is unchanged since when Ubuntu 13.04 was running

$cat /proc/cmdline
BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.11.0-12-generic
root=UUID=10b9da6b-d735-48a7-bc45-2c1fc81183dd ro quiet splash radeon.audio=1
vt.handoff=7

yet audio is broken.

Note that, when selecting headphone as audio output device, everything
works.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-27 Thread Norbert
Reported bug about missing Miscellaneous compatibility options in gnome-
control-center keyboard as I use - Shift with numeric keypad keys works
as in MS Windows in Ubuntu 12.04.3
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-
center/+bug/1245199).

** Description changed:

A PPA which should provide some relief for this issue is available at
  https://launchpad.net/~attente/+archive/1218322. There still remain
issues regarding keyboard shortcuts though. To install:

  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:attente/1218322
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get upgrade

  === gnome-control-center ===

  === gnome-settings-daemon ===

Impact: attempting to change keyboard layouts using only modifier keys
  doesn't work

  Test case:
  - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry
settings
  - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source
['PrimaryShift_L']
  - press and release ctrl+left shift
  - the current input source should change

Regression potential: The input switching shortcut might capture other
non-modifier shortcuts, but users will need to consider this when
choosing their switching shortcut anyways. For users this bug affects,
this represents a working solution for a critical bug.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-27 Thread Данило Шеган
This behaves very weirdly for me, even with the update to

$ dpkg -s gnome-settings-daemon
...
Version: 3.8.5-0ubuntu11.1
...

from saucy-proposed. On one computer (let's call it desktop), my
shortcuts stopped working except in gnome-screensaver: I used to use
Both Shift keys together switch the layout option in the past.
Shift_L, Shift_R for ISO_Next_Group and Shift_R, Shift_L for
ISO_Prev_Group.

On another (let's call it laptop) they worked once I set them up, but
they were recorded as Shift + Next_Group and Shift + Prev_Group. I
haven't tried updating laptop to the -proposed version, but judging from
the ChangeLog, I assume that will stop working now as well.

I don't have keyboard layout set in xorg.conf on either of the machines.
Setting the key directly using gsettings to a value that works on my
laptop (or to ['Shift_RShift_L']) didn't help on my desktop. I'll
switch to defining shortcuts and layouts with setxkbmap directly (oh,
the good ol' times :) hoping that will help.

[Bug 1239795] Re: Cannot copy files via bluetooth: Operation not supported by backend

2013-10-27 Thread Viktoria S.
Actually I have a clean install of Xubuntu 13.10 and I receive the same
error message when I try to copy a file from my cell phone to my
computer. (I can browse files, and I was able to open the images on the
phone as well with all kinds of applications. I just wasn't able to
directly copy anything to my computer.)

[Bug 1245214] Re: Cannot manually arrange (drag and drop) url desktop launchers after upgrade from ubuntu 13.04 to 13.10

2013-10-27 Thread Wayne Perry
I'm the only user so cannot comment on the Guest Session question as
none are set up. Some shortcuts do not exhibit this problem. The
Home icon, for example, can be moved around freely. From the error
message I described it appears the operation is trying to copy root (/).
I have another machine that has not been upgraded from 13.04 to 13.10
that doesn't have this problem. It, however, has nautilus version 3.6.3
instead of version 3.8.2 that was installed with the 13.10 upgrade on
this computer.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-27 Thread Norbert
** Description changed:

A PPA which should provide some relief for this issue is available at
  https://launchpad.net/~attente/+archive/1218322. There still remain
issues regarding keyboard shortcuts though. To install:

  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:attente/1218322
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get upgrade

  === gnome-control-center ===

  === gnome-settings-daemon ===

Impact: attempting to change keyboard layouts using only modifier keys
  doesn't work

  Test case:
  - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry
settings
  - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source
['PrimaryShift_L']
  - press and release ctrl+left shift
  - the current input source should change

Regression potential: The input switching shortcut might capture other
non-modifier shortcuts, but users will need to consider this when
choosing their switching shortcut anyways. For users this bug affects,
this represents a working solution for a critical bug.

I stumpled upon the same issue. For me too the glib2.0{-bin,-0) packages

[Bug 1169694] Re: evolution crashes with GSlice: assertion failed: sinfo-n_allocated 0

2013-10-27 Thread Peter Clifton
Likewise, buggy buggy evolution...

If you want to use the program, a workaround might be starting from a
terminal with:

G_SLICE=always-malloc evolution

Its a bandaid, but if it works, the cause might be somewhere in
evolution (or one of its many libraries) calling g_free() on memory
acquired with the g_slice mechanism.

Finding it might be like looking for a needle in a haystack though!

Another possibility, valgrind is showing some use-after free invalid reads in
webkit's renderer. These might be causing issues.

[Bug 1245263] [NEW] touchpad settings revert to defaults within a minute of choosing them

2013-10-27 Thread Christopher Barrington-Leigh
Public bug reported:

Using the latest 13.04, I open Settings, and under Mouse and Touchpad,
I change the speed of the touchpad pointer from its middling value to
the maximum on the scale.

It has an immediate effect; I can now scroll across my screen without
lifting my finger.

However, within a minute, the improved behaviour goes away. No change
is visible in the settings interface, initially.

If I change to All Settings tab and back to Mouse and Touchpad, I
see that indeed the default has been reinstated.

So it is impossible for me to permanently change the touchpad behaviour.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

[Bug 1169694] Re: evolution crashes with GSlice: assertion failed: sinfo-n_allocated 0

2013-10-27 Thread Peter Clifton
Try starting evolution with:
G_SLICE=debug-blocks evolution

If it crashes out somewhere repeatable, repeat under gdb:
G_SLICE=debug-blocks gdb evolution

Then type run (enter), and get a backtrace with bt (enter) if it
crashes.

I tracked my problem down to the evolution-indicator package plugin, which I
crudely fixed with:
sudo apt-get remove evolution-indicator

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-27 Thread Norbert
It seems that proposed packages make Ctrl+Shift hotkey usable in Unity and
GNOME sessions.
But Ctrl+Shift does not work in gnome-screensaver lock screen
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-screensaver/+bug/1245270) and
unity-greeter
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-greeter/+bug/1245268).

** Description changed:

A PPA which should provide some relief for this issue is available at
  https://launchpad.net/~attente/+archive/1218322. There still remain
issues regarding keyboard shortcuts though. To install:

  sudo add-apt-repository ppa:attente/1218322
  sudo apt-get update
  sudo apt-get upgrade

  === gnome-control-center ===

  === gnome-settings-daemon ===

Impact: attempting to change keyboard layouts using only modifier keys
  doesn't work

  Test case:
  - add at least two input sources through gnome-control-center's text entry
settings
  - use gsettings to set the input switching shortcut to ctrl+left shift:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.wm.keybindings switch-input-source
['PrimaryShift_L']
  - press and release ctrl+left shift
  - the current input source should change

Regression potential: The input switching shortcut might capture other
non-modifier shortcuts, but users will need to consider this when
choosing their switching shortcut anyways. For users this bug affects,
this represents a working solution for a critical bug.

[Bug 1200876] Re: Brasero Hangs at Normalizing Tracks when burning audio CD comprising of Mp3 and Ogg files

2013-10-27 Thread Francisco Reverbel
Same thing here, I ran into this bug when attempting to burn an audio
CD. I also had only MP3 files in the list of files to burn.
