After today performing a system update from 13.10 [previously updated
cca 1mo ago], my account with UID has disappeared from lightdm.
/etc/login.defs, /etc/adduser.conf and /etc/lightdm/users.conf have all
been configured to treat users with minimum UID 5
Confirming that the bug still exists in Lubuntu 13.10, as far as the nm-
signal*secure.svg files are concerned for the default Lubuntu theme.
Workaround as above (#18); note that the default theme seems/is
'Lubuntu', so use that theme as basis:
sudo cp -a lubuntu
cd
sudo vi index.theme
sudo cp

Better question: is there any hope of GNOME developers *not* breaking
critical functionality from release to release? After 12 years with
Ubuntu, I can come up with a huge list of extremely frustrating and
sometimes downright dangerous regressions, almost all of them in GNOM

Adjusting display brightness is very slow on several Dell
I only and always get this when I log out and back in. There is similar
graphic 'garbage' on boot, but logging out and in takes pretty much the
same time as rebooting.

I changed the package from gstreamer0.10 to gstreamer1.0 since 0.10
isn't getting developed anymore. I don't know if the combinantion of
Rhythmbox 3.01 with gstreamer1.0 in Trusty will yield better results
than the combination in Saucy since I haven't upgraded yet.

I have a similar problem. For me the autoscrolling function is only *not*
working when I use the ubuntu theme.
When I use a different theme, like the Planet GNOME theme, autoscrolling works
just fine.
