[Bug 1007855] Re: U+2329 and U+232A characters rendered too wide
These characters seem to be defined double width by the Unicode standard. http://www.unicode.org/reports/tr11/ "ED4. East Asian Wide (W): All other characters that are always wide. These characters occur only in the context of East Asian typography where they are wide characters (such as the Unified Han Ideographs or Squared Katakana Symbols). This category includes characters that have explicit halfwidth counterparts." "Revision 8: Change in header for Unicode 3.1. Changed 2329..232A and 3008-3009 from N to A and W to A respectively. This is a result of their canonical equivalence." ... so apparently Unicode 3.1 changed them from Narrow to Ambiguous, and then ... "Revision 10: Changed 2329..232A, 3008..3009, and 301A..301B from A to W to reflect the addition of 27E6..27EB which are their Na equivalents." which changed them to Wide. You might want to use 27E8 and 27E9 instead. http://www.unicode.org/Public/UCD/latest/ucd/EastAsianWidth.txt "2329;W # LEFT-POINTING ANGLE BRACKET 232A;W # RIGHT-POINTING ANGLE BRACKET" (W for wide) glibc's wcwidth() apparently also correctly reports a width of 2, resulting in this behavior in gnome-terminal and xterm. What other applications (not terminals) do is pretty much irrelevant, that depends on the actual font where each character has its own width, plus there's kerning and stuff. Terminals are pretty much a different world, the width is defined by the Unicode standard, rather than by the particular font in use. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1007855 Title: U+2329 and U+232A characters rendered too wide To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1007855/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 164120] Re: file manager hangs when mounted nfs drive is no longer accessible
Here is the strace, we can see the two calls to readlink which has the actual path.. A simple `ls` in the directory fails /mnt hangs without even running umount. This is what I assume is the core of the nautilus symptom people are ranting about. I think this is also why nfs drives can't umount when disconnected. I don't know why umount has to ls the parent directory to umount the location. I can understand it doing so, but I'd expect it the -f option to just purge the kernel's knowledge of the mount point and move on with life. That `umount -f` issues an readlink() in cwd, and that an ls with failed mount hangs is what I assume is the problem here. , fstat(3, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0444, st_size=0, ...}) = 0 mmap(NULL, 4096, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_PRIVATE|MAP_ANONYMOUS, -1, 0) = 0x7f2630b74000 read(3, "nodev\tsysfs\nnodev\trootfs\nnodev\tr"..., 1024) = 365 read(3, "", 1024) = 0 close(3)= 0 munmap(0x7f2630b74000, 4096)= 0 open("/usr/lib/locale/locale-archive", O_RDONLY|O_CLOEXEC) = 3 fstat(3, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=2919792, ...}) = 0 mmap(NULL, 2919792, PROT_READ, MAP_PRIVATE, 3, 0) = 0x7f262f61 close(3)= 0 umask(022) = 022 getuid()= 0 geteuid() = 0 readlink("/mnt", 0x7fff2a645120, 4096) = -1 EINVAL (Invalid argument) readlink("/mnt/nfs", -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/164120 Title: file manager hangs when mounted nfs drive is no longer accessible To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/dolphin/+bug/164120/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 164120] Re: file manager hangs when mounted nfs drive is no longer accessible
I don't think this bug has *anything* to do with nautilus. The after pulling the plug on the NFS drive anything that tries to access it crashes, here is the ltrace, bindtextdomain("util-linux", "/usr/share/locale") = "/usr/share/locale" textdomain("util-linux") = "util-linux" strrchr("umount", '/') = nil umask(022) = 022 getopt_long(3, 0x7fff4f92f708, "adfhlnrit:O:vV", 0x610460, nil) = 102 getopt_long(3, 0x7fff4f92f708, "adfhlnrit:O:vV", 0x610460, nil) = -1 getuid() = 0 geteuid() = 0 __cxa_atexit(0x4057b0, 0, 0, -1) = 0 mnt_init_debug(0, 0x7f71b88abeb0, 2, 1) = 2 readlink(0x7fff4f92e4c0, 0x7fff4f92d4b0, 4096, 2310) = -1 __errno_location() = 0x7f71b8ef97e0 readlink(0x7fff4f92e4c0, 0x7fff4f92d4b0, 4096, -160 Seems as if it makes a call to readlink() which returns -1 indicating an error (3rd line to last), then it realizes that it has an error. And, does a readlink in the same fashion setting buffsize to -160, presumably in whatever handles the error.. [Bug 1325309] Re: User can't suspend laptop/control wireless via dbus/systemd-logind if cgroups are disabled in kernel
I'm afraid logind does require cgroups to be available. The init script reflects that, as without the cgroup mount logind wouldn't work. You already noticed the failure to suspend etc., but I'm quite surprised that you get a desktop session at all. I expect that dynamic ACLs to devices (sound, USB, etc.) are also not working. So I recommend enabling cgroups in your custom kernels. This should hardly have any power usage effect? ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu) Status: New => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1325309 Title: User can't suspend laptop/control wireless via dbus/systemd-logind if cgroups are disabled in kernel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1325309/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
