[Bug 1429584] Re: gnome-terminal doesn't set $COLORTERM from 3.14 onwards
In https://github.com/GNOME/gnome- terminal/commit/1d5c1b6ca6373c1301494edbc9e43c3e6a9c9aaf I've found that you're most worried how you'll set TERM=xterm-256color. As pointed out in the links above, checking for $VTE_VERSION could be one approach. Note that vte-0.40 (gnome-terminal-3.16) will default to TERM=xterm- 256color (commit 82a8b06). It might be the best move for Ubuntu to backport this patch to its current vte packages. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1429584 Title: gnome-terminal doesn't set $COLORTERM from 3.14 onwards To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1429584/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1429584] Re: gnome-terminal doesn't set $COLORTERM from 3.14 onwards
This affects release: Vivid Vervet How exactly does it effect it? $COLORTERM was dropped for a good reason; appart from the links you posted the best explanation is probably at https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=733423. $COLORTERM should not be necessary ever. Instead of bringing it back, the distro should rather fix whoever relies on this to use better methods (e.g. xtermcontrol or equivalent; or $VTE_VERSION) instead. ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #733423 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=733423 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1429584 Title: gnome-terminal doesn't set $COLORTERM from 3.14 onwards To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/1429584/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1429354] Re: ecryptfs install does not initialize cryptswap partition
This is reproducible with a default use full disk and encrypt my home dir installation. This produces that kind of crypttab which apparently never initializes the cryptswap partition. blkid -p on that partition is empty, there is no LUKS file system on it. I'm not sure about the role of UUID for a cryptswap device that gets initialized from /dev/urandom, but I figure there's supposed to be an outer LUKS wrapper around the inner swap partition? This is broken under upstart as well, it's just that booting silently ignores the missing cryptswap partition and you have a system without any swap. ** Summary changed: - cryptswap (with ecryptfs) configures invalid crypttab + ecryptfs install does not initialize cryptswap partition ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Triaged ** Package changed: systemd (Ubuntu) = ubiquity (Ubuntu) ** Also affects: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High ** Changed in: systemd (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1429354 Title: ecryptfs install does not initialize cryptswap partition To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cryptsetup/+bug/1429354/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1429975] Re: nfs no longer mounted at boot with systemd
I've seen this as well on my desktop. For me it was not a regression vs. upstart (there are bug reports about nfs mounts similarly not being mounted at boot under upstart in Ubuntu 14.10 and later), which is why I did not consider this a blocker for switching by default. Looking at the systemd mount generator output on my system, I see entries such as: $ cat /run/systemd/generator/srv.mount # Automatically generated by systemd-fstab-generator [Unit] SourcePath=/etc/fstab Documentation=man:fstab(5) man:systemd-fstab-generator(8) Before=remote-fs.target [Mount] What=server:/ Where=/srv Type=nfs4 Options=soft,intr,async,nolock,sec=krb5i,proto=tcp $ This is notably lacking any dependency information requiring the network to be up before trying (and failing) to start the unit. [Bug 991481] Re: Constant dns traffic for daisy.ubuntu.com
Yes. I've discussed this with Evan Dandrea a few times in the past, the right way to fix this is by enabling connectivity checking in NetworkManager itself, which can be done with a simple configuration file change in /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf (see manual for NetworkManager). The idea is to point it to a file under start.ubuntu.com which can be polled regularly by NM when connected (every five minutes by default, but this is configurable). In the past, there has been some pushback on enabling this due to privacy concerns and concerns that the connectivity checking wasn't configurable/reliable enough. It will need to be investigated again, and discussed again on ubuntu-devel@ or somewhere else suitable for broader discussion. I'm not planning on touching this again in the very near future, so unassigning -- please, anyone want to shepherd this to be completed, feel free to assign it to yourself and start up the dicussion again to see if we can enable connectivity checking. This may be useful for Ubuntu Touch as well. ** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu) Assignee: Mathieu Trudel-Lapierre (mathieu-tl) = (unassigned) ** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu) Status: In Progress = Triaged -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to glib2.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/991481 Title: Constant dns traffic for daisy.ubuntu.com To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/whoopsie/+bug/991481/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1429584] Re: gnome-terminal doesn't set $COLORTERM from 3.14 onwards
This flag is used to 'upgrade' from xterm to xterm-256color in almost every bash environment people use... Then these should be fixed. COLORTERM's semantics have nothing to do with 256 color support per se, it was a mere coincidence that all terminals that set this variable also supported 256 colors. And as I said, this upgrade won't be necessary beginning with the next major VTE release, which defaults to xterm-256color. I recommend that Ubuntu backports this change. Rest assured, VTE_VERSION is not dropped. I'm using vte+gnome-terminal from git HEAD, and it's still set. I'm not sure what that commit is about, it must be something about how the command line gnome-terminal process connects to the running gnome-terminal-server or starts it up, or something like that, I'm not familiar with that area of the code. This might be about purging a previous value, but then later the correct one is set.

[Bug 1385572] [NEW] gnome-session not shutting down cleanly
You have been subscribed to a public bug: We have had reports going back to 13.10 that gnome-shell extensions are disabled after restart (LP: #1236749), I've only just managed to reproduce this and have discovered that gnome-session is not shutting down cleanly. Basically, X gets shutdown, which causes gnome-shell to abort, following this gnome-session tries to respawn gnome-shell which fails and due to this failure disables all shell extensions. I don't know enough about upstart to really understand what is going on but it appears this also affects unity and it just hasnt been noticed since there are probably no such side-effects happening there. Filing this against upstart since this is not reproducible when using systemd init, though it may well be a bug in gnome-session, but related to upstart user sessions. [Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.
WORKAROUND. This is just a very dirty workaround that I do not suggest you do. It will render Geary useless (but you can choose another app, your call): 1. Step 1: [code] echo (setxkbmap -query | grep -q layout:\s\+us) setxkbmap il || setxkbmap us ~/geary chmod +x ~/geary sudo cp ~/geary /bin/geary [/code] this will override geary. 2. Step 2: Go to system settings - keyboard - shortcuts - applications. Set keyboard shortcut for mail (super + shift), ALT-SHIFT doesn't work. 3. Step 3: Collect underpants. 4. Step 4: Profit! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1218322 Title: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc. To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/elementaryos/+bug/1218322/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
