There is a workaround, which is editing the /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/immodule-files.d/libgtk2.0-0.immodules file and changing the line cedilla Cedilla gtk20 /usr/share/locale az:ca:co:fr:gv:oc:pt:sq:tr:wa to cedilla Cedilla gtk20 /usr/share/locale az:ca:co:fr:gv:oc:pt:sq:tr:wa:en (add the 'en' at the end). However, every time some update on this file is applied, one looses the change, and we get back to the accented c. That means having to modify the file again, logout and login. For me this is no problem. But for my brother, mom, dad, etc, it is always something that at least makes me less proud of having convinced them to use Ubuntu, because they don't know what to do each time this happens. I think we really need a configurable keyboard layout, or at least (and that would be very easy), the inclusion of alternate layouts on install that for the dead-key options (as US-deadkey and UK-deakey), alternate layouts as US-deadkey-cedilla. [Bug 1411140] Re: systemd-machine-id-commit.service fails on overlayfs
This bug was fixed in the package systemd - 219-5ubuntu1 --- systemd (219-5ubuntu1) vivid; urgency=medium * Merge with Debian experimental branch. Remaining Ubuntu changes: - Hack to support system-image read-only /etc, and modify files in /etc/writable/ instead. - Keep our much simpler udev maintainer scripts (all platforms must support udev, no debconf). - initramfs init-top: Drop $ROOTDELAY, we do that in a more sensible way with wait-for-root. Will get applicable to Debian once Debian gets wait-for-root in initramfs-tools. - initramfs init-bottom: If LVM is installed, settle udev, otherwise we get missing LV symlinks. Workaround for LP #1185394. - Add debian/udev.lvm2.init: Dummy SysV init script to satisfy insserv dependencies to lvm2 which is handled with udev rules in Ubuntu. - Provide shutdown fallback for upstart. (LP: #1370329) - debian/extra/ifup@.service: Additionally run for auto class. We don't really support allow-hotplug in Ubuntu at the moment, so we need to deal with auto devices appearing after /etc/init.d/networking start already ran. (LP: #1374521) Also, check if devices are actually defined in /etc/network/interfaces as we don't use Debian's net.agent. - ifup@.service: Drop dependency on networking.service (i. e. /etc/init.d/networking), and merely ensure that /run/network exists. This avoids unnecessary dependencies/waiting during boot and dependency cycles if hooks wait for other interfaces to come up (like ifenslave with bonding interfaces). (LP: #1414544) - Add Get-RTC-is-in-local-time-setting-from-etc-default-rc.patch: In Ubuntu we currently keep the setting whether the RTC is in local or UTC time in /etc/default/rcS UTC=yes|no, instead of /etc/adjtime. (LP: #1377258) - Put session scopes into all cgroup controllers. This makes unprivileged user LXC containers work under systemd. (LP: #1346734) - systemctl: Don't forward telinit u to upstart. This works around upstart's Restart() always reexec'ing /sbin/init on Restart(), even if that changes to point to systemd during the upgrade. This avoids running systemd during a dist-upgrade. (LP: #1430479) - Lower Breaks: to plymouth version which has the udev inotify fix in Ubuntu. - Lower libappamor1 dep to the Ubuntu version where it moved to /lib. - Change systemd-sysv's conflicts to upstart-sysv. (LP: #1422681) - Make failure of boot-and-services NSpawn.test_boot non-fatal for now. This currently fails when being triggered by Jenkins, but is totally unreproducible when running this manually on the exact same machine. Upgrade fixes, keep until 16.04 LTS release: - systemd Conflicts/Replaces/Provides systemd-services. - Remove obsolete systemd-logind upstart job. - Clean up obsolete /etc/udev/rules.d/README. systemd (219-6) UNRELEASED; urgency=medium [ Martin Pitt ] * Import patches from v219-stable branch (up to 85a6fab). [ Didier Roche ] * Fix mount point detection on overlayfs and similar file systems without name_to_handle_at() and st_dev support. (LP: #1411140) systemd (219-5) experimental; urgency=medium [ Didier Roche ] * Add systemd-fsckd autopkgtest. (LP: #1427312) * cmdline-upstart-boot autopkgtest: Update to Ubuntu's upstart-sysv split (test gets skipped on Debian while upstart-sysv does not yet exist there). * Cherry-pick a couple of upstream commits for adding transient state, fixing a race where mounts become available before the device being available. * Ensure PrivateTmp doesn't require tmpfs through tmp.mount, but rather adds an After relationship. (Closes: #779902) [ Martin Pitt ] * journald: Suppress expected cases of Failed to set file attributes errors. (LP: #1427899) * Add systemd-sysv.postinst: Update grub on first installation, so that the alternative init system boot entries get updated. * debian/tests: Call /tmp/autopkgtest-reboot, to work with autopkgtest = 3.11.1. * Check for correct architecture identifiers for SuperH. (Closes: #779710) * Fix tmpfiles.d to only apply the first match again (regression in 219). [Bug 1251281] Re: gnome-session-flashback/Unity fails to start without hardware acceleration in cloud/remote environments (Forwarded-X/XRDP/VNC/NX/X2GO/Chromoting)
I tried to verify this, but bug 1416081 blocks testing with tightvncserver and xrdp as well as with x2goserver. Would anyone be willing to upload the patches in that bug to -proposed as well? I will fill in the SRU paperwork shortly. In the mean time, ppa:rtandy/flashback contains the necessary patches for testing. My testing steps: - install gnome-session-flashback and tightvncserver, - (trusty/utopic): install gnome-session-bin from -proposed, - create ~/.vnc/xstartup with appropriate contents: (vivid, session managed by gnome-session:) export XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME-Flashback:Unity export STARTUP=gnome-session --session=gnome-flashback-metacity --disable-acceleration-check exec /etc/X11/Xsession (vivid, session managed by upstart:) export DESKTOP_SESSION=gnome-flashback-metacity export XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=GNOME-Flashback:Unity exec /etc/X11/Xsession gnome-session (trusty/utopic, session managed by gnome-session:) export STARTUP=gnome-session --session=gnome-flashback --disable-acceleration-check exec /etc/X11/Xsession (trusty/utopic, session managed by upstart:) export DESKTOP_SESSION=gnome-fallback export XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=Unity exec /etc/X11/Xsession gnome-session - chmod +x ~/.vnc/xstartup, - run vncserver, - from another host, run vncviewer. The keyboard problem I mentioned earlier seems to be related to bug 568401 and bug 658723 (but not bug 112955 or bug 112309). Basically Super modifier is always active when connected over VNC (or xrdp, as it uses VNC behind the scenes). FreeNX/X2Go don't seem to have this problem. With regards to this bug specifically, AFAICT the gnome-session changes in -proposed (supporting the --disable-acceleration-check switch, and applying it to upstart-managed gnome-flashback sessions) are working, but I'd love if a second person would confirm that! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1251281 Title: gnome-session-flashback/Unity fails to start without hardware acceleration in cloud/remote environments (Forwarded-X/XRDP/VNC/NX/X2GO/Chromoting) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-session/+bug/1251281/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1437459] [NEW] location service appears not to start occasionally
Public bug reported: ubuntu-touch/ubuntu-rtm/14.09-proposed #258 (krillin) Bootstrap your device, so you walk through the welcome wizard. Be sure to accept the additional check box for HERE services. Open system settings/location. Observe that the location settings do not include here. select the here option before moving on. After accepting the location access prompt, observe that the browser obtains a location. Now return to the here app, and see that the location is now working. Expectation: It should not require the browser to start up the location service. Here should be able to do this itself. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you might take include checking cable connections and using software tools to investigate the health of your hardware. [Bug 1437502] Re: nautilus lacking 'new document' in context menu
The exisitng patch for this is set to only show under Unity, probably can drop that check, since this would be useful under GNOME also. ** Also affects: ubuntu-gnome Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: ubuntu-gnome Milestone: None = vivid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1437502 Title: nautilus lacking 'new document' in context menu To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-gnome/+bug/1437502/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1433165] Re: evince fails to run due to a gdk_mir_display_open
Solved, by adding /run/user through dpkg-reconfigure apparmor. An overkill for this bug is: 1) Run evince xxx.pdf in terminal 2) Find out the last lines of the output of dmesg, which should go like this: [ 7091.704251] audit: type=1400 audit(1427518665.187:100): apparmor=DENIED operation=open profile=/usr/bin/evince name=/run/user/1000/gdm/Xauthority pid=20485 comm=evince requested_mask=r denied_mask=r fsuid=1000 ouid=1000 , and remember the directory after name= 3) Run dpkg-reconfigure apparmor, add the directory after name=( in this case it is /run/user/1000/gdm). Hope this works. ** Changed in: evince (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1433165 Title: evince fails to run due to a gdk_mir_display_open To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/1433165/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
