[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows

2017-11-22 Thread PJSingh5000
Same issue as LuisC on 17.10, but using xorg.

Also, my keyboard stops working, so I can't press super key.

However, the gnome-shell top bar and the Ubuntu Dock still accept
inputs.

As a result, I am able to launch programs.

I can also kill programs by clicking on the window's "X" (close) in
Activities (overview) mode, but the window controls (close, minimize,
and maximize) do not accept any form of input.

Restarting solves the problem. Loging-out and loging back in does not
correct the problem. Note that I am able to use the mouse and keyboard
on the GDM screen, just like I am able to interact with the topbar and
Ubuntu Dock.

Re: [Bug 1299604] Re: evolution keeps asking for password

Upgraded to Debian stretch. New internet provider email account no longer
works, did before upgrade, tried all tricks but still popups for password.
Only Gmail now collects. Also no longer connects to Gmail address in
account.

[Bug 1299604] Re: evolution keeps asking for password

2017-11-22 Thread Bryan Crosby
I use Xubuntu 16.04 with evolution 3.18.5.2
This is the 2nd time, that it failed to send emails. It had previously worked
seamlessly( over 3 months). Then I had to change my Microsoft (live) password.
Evolution, asked for a new password when I started it up successfully. After
that it could successfully receive all my emails but could not send any.
I eventually followed the advice found on this site to run seahorse, I closed
Evo, and deleted all the relevant passwords associated with Evo. I restarted
Evo, it asked for my server password twice, then the receiving and sending
could happen again. It seems that it fails to recognise that either
1: The sending password is the same as receiving password ( there may be
exceptions, but i would think it would be a fair default) for any email server.
2: that if get action required new password, so does send action
This password change coincided , coincidentally, with a system update. I don't
know if that is part of the cause of this bug. Of course now that I have
reported it, I will probably always remember the solution if it happens again.
***
Interesting, seahorse did not have the title seahorse in Xubuntu start menu.
Rather when I entered "seahorse" in the search of startup menu, it resolved
only to "Passwords and keys". It makes sense in a functional way, but threw me
off track until that time.

[Bug 1733980] [NEW] "Clear All" buton should not remove calendar events from the panel

2017-11-22 Thread Owais Lone
Public bug reported:

"Clear All" works in an unexpected and non unintuitive way when it comes
to calendar entries. Clicking it not only removes all notification
entries from the panel but also all of the calendar entries which in my
opinion is not what most users would expect as normally people wouldn't
want their schedule for the day to just disappear if they just want to
mark notifications as read.

I get it that technically the entries are just persistent notifications
sent by the calendar application but I don't think this is the expected
behavior from the users. Moreover, this is exactly what happens when if
a user switches to any past or future dates in the calendar/notification
panel. The calendar entries for that date are shown but it is not
possible to remove them either individually or by clicking clear all
(disabled). If it makes sense to not remove them for other days, why
would we want to do it for the current day when the schedule is the most
needed. To me it seems like the design is mixing up 2 different concepts
here. A Notification panel and Today's schedule panel.

IMHO, a better design would have been to visually separate list of
unread notifications and list of calendar events for the day like most
operating systems do (macOS, Windows, Android, iOS). At the very least
the clear all button should not touch the calendar entries.

If neither of these are acceptable or doable, perhaps a way to bring
back calendar notification after they are cleared would work.

Okay, this is a bug that occurs in Xorg(X11) then, just as we previously
thought.

Also, as for why Ctrl+Alt+T is fine while right-clicking on the desktop
isn't, see bug 1722121.

[Bug 1733925] [NEW] systemd 234-2ubuntu12.1 takes 1minute+ for systemctl --system daemon-reload

2017-11-22 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

I noticed that today's package upgrades were taking a long time.
Looking at the process list, I saw that systemctl daemon-reload was
running from each maintainer script and taking a long time to complete -
upwards of 1 minute for each invocation.

I did not see such behavior previously, and I haven't done anything by
hand that should confuse systemd or cause it to take an excessively long
time to reload its state.

After a reboot for unrelated reasons, systemctl daemon-reload now
returns immediately.

[Bug 1616332] Re: gnome-software using hundreds of MB of memory when not in use

2017-11-22 Thread Traumflug
Even on a desktop, gnome-software not running all the time makes hardly
a distinction. Searches for software may take a second longer (probably
gnome-software startup time), still it works perfectly fine.

One can try this by killing gnome-software, then searching for something
using the activities menu. This starts up gnome-software fully
automatic. But it's not terminated after the search is done, which is
certainly part of the problem.

[Bug 1616332] Re: gnome-software using hundreds of MB of memory when not in use

2017-11-22 Thread Leonardo Donelli
I do not seem to have the memory leak problem (the used RAM doesn't seem
to grow constantly and without bounds), but still it uses constantly
almost 200 MB of memory, which seems kind of unacceptable to me for an
application which is usually run rarely or not at all for people who
prefer using apt. I get that terminal users should not be the main
concern of the OS/DE developers, but still, an option to disable the
gnome-software autostart would be nice.

[Bug 1724557] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in meta_logical_monitor_get_scale()

2017-11-22 Thread Brian Neltner
I have still been experiencing crashes of the desktop whenever my
monitor is turned back on. However, the /var/crash log is now reporting
against Xwayland.

I submitted a new bug report https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/xorg-server/+bug/1733893 against this crash log as I am not sure if it
is the same cause. For me the last crash log for gnome-shell is from the
19th, but the crash behavior has remained (mostly) unchanged.

I say mostly because once in a while I am able to turn the monitor on
without it crashing. I have no explanation for that, and haven't been
able to pin down what set of conditions cause it to work.

Sorry for the delay.

About apport, it just crashes. No error visible on the console.
I'll check about the mconnect extension. I'll disable it and see if the

[Bug 1733793] [NEW] Evince reports wrong zoom percentage number on Wayland

2017-11-22 Thread Daniel Nicolas
Public bug reported:

The application struggles on zooming at any zoom levels if I'm running
it on Wayland. Basically Evince fails at zooming correctly on all PDF
documents. Whenever the zoom is set to Fit Page, Fit Width, or
Automatic, the counter displays wrong percentage at 0% and Ctrl + +/- or
Ctrl + Scroll Up/Down doesn't work. If I try to zoom to 50% or 200%
using the presets on the drop-down menu, all pages in the document
disappears and the counter now shows "-nan%".

Encountered on Ubuntu 17.10 in Wayland
GPU is Radeon HD 6410 and uses open-source drivers
