[Bug 1743503] [NEW] No wayland session option

Public bug reported:

Per the release notes, Wayland is now the default display server in
Ubuntu 17.10. Exciting.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ArtfulAardvark/ReleaseNotes

I don't appear to be running Wayland. Boring.

todd@todd-ab28d3:~$ loginctl
   SESSIONUID USER SEAT TTY
c2121 gdm seat0/dev/tty1
 3 1000 todd seat0/dev/tty2

2 sessions listed.
todd@todd-ab28d3:~$ loginctl show-session 3 -p Type
Type=x11

This is a clean install with no proprietary graphics drivers.

todd@todd-ab28d3:~$ lspci | grep -i amd

[Radeon R9 FURY / NANO Series] (rev ca)
01:00.1 Audio device: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Fiji HDMI/DP Audio
[Radeon R9 Nano / FURY/FURY X]

I've attached the full journalctl log in case there's anything useful in
there. No wayland hits anyway.

[Bug 1743366] Re: Systemd .path units are not working properly in Bionic

2018-01-15 Thread Steve Langasek
We discussed on IRC that this is because *no* systemd units are being
activated; the user session is not being run under systemd. This is a
regression vs. unity, and should be considered a bug in the desktop
session as a whole.

Reassigning this to gnome-session, which seems like the correct starting
point.

[Bug 878472] Re: Shotwell Viewer can't open files without file ending

2018-01-15 Thread Loren Dias
http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/3469 is Error 404.

For me this is a very big problem.

When I import photos from Google Drive they often don't have a file
extension but the unique file string as the name.

I have potentially deleted hundreds of thousands of photos I thought
successfully imported.

At the very least, it should notify you of XXX photos or other files
without extensions were not imported.

[Bug 1743183] [NEW] Mouse left button not being noitced when clicked under Wayland - works under x11

2018-01-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Connected other mice, unplugging/rebooting/replugging in mouse has no
affect.

However booting into X11 from the login screen fixes the mouse issue! If
I try to login with Wayland then the problem reemerges.

Ive even enabled "Pre-Release Updates and downloaded all the updated
files in the hope of fixing the issue - it didnt.

So HELP!

Even though I have a working system I would prefer to be working under
Wayland.

Cheers in advance

[Bug 1332623] Re: Thunar behaves inconsistently with USB flash drive FAT32 partitions

2018-01-15 Thread MDE
I've found this bug on Ubuntu 17.10 with Thunar version 1.6.12-1
yesterday, and after a bit digging found the root cause in the gio part
of glib:

https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=787731

They have found it using Nautilus earlier and created a fix, which was
released in glib-2.55. Unfortunately the newest libglib2.0-0 available
in Ubuntu (artful and bionic) is 2.54.1-1ubuntu1 which doesn't contain
the fix.

[Bug 1741902] Re: Drag and drop state may be freezed by rogue application

2018-01-15 Thread Alberts Muktupāvels
>From your bug:
"Windows can still be bought to front by clicking them, but never gain focus
and no application (besides nautlilus I guess, which is stalled) receives
clicks or keystrokes."

This sounds like nautilus has grabbed mouse & keyboard when it started
drag & drop operation. From what I know it is perfectly valid action on
X. Any app can grab keyboard and/or mouse...

https://freedesktop.org/wiki/Specifications/XDND/
Read "Protecting against malfunctioning programs" section. It seems that it is
application responsibility to make sure it does not crash and/or lock (doesn't
wait forever).

Reading your bug seems that nautilus just enters in "waiting forever"
state when sftp connection drops. It just waits for something that will
never happen and also does not ungrab keyboard and/or mouse. Yes, that
is bad, very bad situation...

But I don't see how this could be fixed somewhere else. Metacity (window
manager) is not involved here, also I think there is nothing to fix in
X. How can X know that application has entered some bad state?

Nautilus most likely can detect that connection drops and in such case
it must make sure that any started drag & drop operation is cancelled.
If that happens with other apps, then it might be bug at toolkit level -
gtk+.

Can you provide steps how to reproduce this bug?

Might be good idea to forward bug to upstream project:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus

Maybe nautilus developers has already fixed this in newer versions. My
16.04 installations shows 1:3.18.4.is.3.14.3-0ubuntu6 as nautilus
version which is very old version.

Removing the settings wouldn't help as the process is not stopped when
the package is removed. The bug most probably still exists in 17.10 and
future releases unless it has been fixed upstream.

This is still and issue in Ubuntu 17.10. Firefox opens all kinds of file

the above, inside gnome-shell it opens dolphin.

Can we set the referenced upstream bug to be tracked and mark it

[Bug 1743429] [NEW] GNOME Software doesn't support animated Gifs for screenshots

I am running GNOME Software on Ubuntu 16.04. If I look for Tizonia, it
shows the app description and a static screenshot. The media uploaded to
the store is actually a gif, but GNOME Software doesn't seem to support
it.

Steps to reproduce

* Open GNOME Software

* Wait for screenshot to load

Expected behaviour

* Animated gif plays in the page for the application

Actual behaviour

* Only the first frame of the animated gif is displayed.

[Bug 1740247] [NEW] System monitor under-reports maximum CPU usage by xorg and compiz

2018-01-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug by Dan Dascalescu
(ddascalescu+launchpad):

My CPU was being roasted on all 4 cores, htop showed 25% utilization for
both xorg and compiz, but `sudo gnome-system-monitor` showed much
smaller numbers for xorg (~7%) and compiz (5%).

Killing compiz didn't help - after a dip in the CPU usage and a flash of
the screen, it's back to 100% of the CPU core.

The machine is an ASUS ZenBook UX430UQ Intel Core i7-7500 with a 2GB
NVIDIA 940MX card (but System details shows Intel® HD Graphics 620
(Kabylake GT2) and 16GB RAM.
