@swami-petaramesh, With nouveau, Ubuntu will default to Wayland. And if you install the Nvidia proprietary driver then that generally disables Wayland and forces you to use Xorg. Although the difference is usually invisible to the user. So actually it sounds like Xorg was causing your problems...
