[Bug 1767912] Re: Mouse Keys enabled/enables during session when setting shows disabled

2018-04-29 Thread Karim Hollosi
** Description changed:

After starting a session, the numpad behaves as if Mouse Keys is
enabled. Going to Settings > Universal Access > Mouse Keys shows that
the feature is disabled. To disable Mouse Keys, the setting must be
enabled first, then disabled. Alternatively, the following commands must
  be used in terminal:

  gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.a11y.keyboard mousekeys-enable true
  gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.a11y.keyboard mousekeys-enable false

These settings will only persist for the session. It has been observed
that the function seemingly enables itself during a session, with no
known trigger. At the same time, the num lock or shift + num lock hotkey
does not function. Whether that is a separate bug is another story, but
neither key combination results in the accidental or purposeful
activation or deactivation of Mouse Keys.

Problem observed in Ubuntu 18.04. gsettings-desktop-schemas version
3.28.0-1ubuntu1. Has been previously observed in 17.10 and 16.04.

Current temporary workaround is to add the two commands above into a
script to run on startup. This does not solve inadvertent activations
  later on, however.

+ EDIT: Mouse Keys observed to enable itself when I type "xset led on"
+ into terminal to enable keyboard backlight.

[Bug 1759462] Re: Keyboard shortcuts not operational on 18.04

2018-04-29 Thread WinEunuchs2Unix
Reply to #8, problem seems to have gone away on it's own today. Had
tried multiple DE's that didn't work and went into Unity. A message that
"Updates are available" appeared. Clicking on it installed nothing but
probably ran `sudo apt update`, `sudo apt upgrade` in the background.
Rebooted into 16.04. Later rebooted into 18.04 test environment and
`Ctrl`+`Alt`+`T` and media keys are working.

[Bug 1767806] [NEW] Position of left-tiled windows not restored correctly when another left-tiled window present

2018-04-29 Thread Jani Uusitalo
Public bug reported:

When another window is maximized or tiled to the left side of the
screen, re-opening an application whose window was previously tiled to
the left side does not restore that windows' previous position. Instead
such windows open at varying distances from the dock, untiled.

= Steps to reproduce *expected* behavior (with a newly created user) =

1. open Firefox, drag the window to the left edge of the screen to tile it
there (filling up the left half of horizontal screen space)
2. close Firefox
3. open Nautilus, make sure that the window floats (i.e. is unmaximized and not
tiled to either side of screen)
4. open Firefox

== What happens ==
As expected, Firefox's window is tiled to the left edge of screen, immediately
to the right side of the dock.

= Steps to reproduce *unexpected* behavior (with a newly created user) =
1. open Firefox, drag the window to the left edge of the screen to tile it
there (filling up the left half of horizontal screen space)
2. close Firefox
3. open Nautilus, *maximize its window*
4. open Firefox

== What happens ==
Firefox's window opens slightly to the right off the right edge of the dock
(with a gap between the dock and the window).
== What I expect to happen ==
I expect Firefox's window to be tiled to the left edge of screen, immediately
to the right side of the dock, just as it did following the first recipe above.

= Further information =
Either maximizing or tiling Nautilus' window to the left edge of the screen (at
step #3) triggers the issue. Tiling it to the *right* edge of the screen does
not.

Using Gnome Terminal instead of Nautilus triggers the issue just as
well, I suspect any other application will though I've only
systematically tested these two so far.

>From battling with this in my daily use I also know that the distance of
incorrectly restored windows from the dock varies: different
applications open at different distances. The precise mechanics of this
still elude me, though the distances do appear to be multiples of 25
pixels.

[Bug 1766137] Re: [regression] Password accepted but login fails (blank purple screen and mouse pointer only)

2018-04-29 Thread Zihang Ye
I'm using a 18.04 upgraded from 17.10 and I have the same issue but slightly
different.
The difference is that if I lock the screen for more than a certain amount of
time, when I wake it up, I find myself logged out.
And to get away the blanked screen, I used Alt+F2 and then Alt+F1, and the gdm
says "Authentication failed", which is quite similar to #19.
And I'm using gnome-session with Wayland.

[Bug 1766137] Re: [regression] Password accepted but login fails (blank purple screen and mouse pointer only)

2018-04-29 Thread Joseph Maillardet
Same here with a 18.04 upgraded from 17.10

Workaround :
* Hitting Alt+F1 return to GDM who complain about a “login fail” and ask
another time my password.
* Another successful password attempt finally launch Gnome correctly.

Side effect :
* Hitting Alt+F3,4,5,... give me ugly graphic mashup.

Try :
* Uncommenting the line bellow in /etc/gdm3/custom.conf file to use Xorg by
default don't change anything :
#WaylandEnable=false

Note :
* The blanked screen is always GDM, I don't see the top menu-bar but clicking
the right place show the GDM style system menu with only few option like
shutdown button and no user sub-menu
* I not obtain blank purple screen but grey screen because I choose original
Gnome CSS alternative...
`sudo update-alternatives --set gdm3.css
/usr/share/gnome-shell/theme/gnome-shell.css`

[Bug 1767765] [NEW] Clicking on fcitx applet hangs Ubuntu MATE

2018-04-29 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
Public bug reported:

Method to reproduce in 1 minute:
1) Download the Ubuntu MATE 18.04 live CD.
2) Press space while booting to display the syslinux language menu. Select
Ελληνικά (Greek) in order for fcitx to autorun. I guess the same will happen in
other languages too.
3) Select Δοκιμάστε το Ubuntu MATE χωρίς εγκατάσταση (Try Ubuntu MATE without
installing).
4) When the live session becomes available, the following applets show:
en [keyboard icon] ...
At that point, clicking on the keyboard icon causes no issues.
5) Open anything that displays a cursor, e.g. a terminal. Now the following
applets show:
en [keyboard icon] us
It is a bug that the language is shown twice. But the main problem now is that
if one clicks at the keyboard icon, an unpopulated (hanged) menu shows up, and
the keyboard/mouse no longer work; no interaction with the desktop is possible.
6) If one presses Alt+Ctrl+F2 to switch to vt2, logs in with ubuntu-mate and
empty pass, and types `killall fcitx`, and then presses Alt+Ctrl+F7 to switch
back to vt7, the UI is unfrozen and works properly.

** Affects: fcitx (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
