[Bug 1767027] Re: Search current folder only in nautilus doesn't work (Ubuntu 18.04)

2018-07-19 Thread Treviño
** Description changed:

+ [ Description ]
+
  I upgraded to Ubuntu 18.04 prerelease from Ubuntu 17.10 and am finding
  that Nautilus searches all subfolders when I start typing, not just the
  present folder, even though I have the "search only current folder"
  option selected in its preferences, and "Only searching the current
  folder" does appear in the GUI as I am searching. Nonetheless results
  appear from subfolders (which I wouldn't mind, but which I turn off due
  to its poor performance compared to current-folder-only).
+
+ [ Test case ]
+
+ 1. Start nautilus, form app settings force nautilus to search only in current
folder
+ 2. Search for any content you know is available in a subfolder of the current
one
+ 3. No results should be shown for any of the subfolders
+
+ And also:
+
+ 1. Open gnome-shell activities (hit super)
+ 2. Search for a file you have in a subfolder of your home (not hidden, backup
or anything)
+ 3. The files should be shown on the overview.
+ 4. Hitting nautilus icon in overview, results from any subfolder of your
$HOME should be
+presented.
+
+ [ Regression potential ]
+
+ Searches from gnome-shell activities does not contain all the results.
+ Or normal searches from nautilus might not list results from subfolders.

[Bug 1782559] [NEW] Wayland hangs?

2018-07-19 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I have an industrial PC that needs to run Ubuntu. Installing from USB
stick was a hassle. (didn't work in dozens of combinations of memory
stick (kingston/adata), usb slot (front, back), distribution(14.04,
16.04, 18.04), variant (server, desktop, mini, net)

When I finally got it installed, the PC would hang after booting, never
completing to the login. A recovery boot allowed me to install ssh, and
using SSH I could see the wayland process. I'm a bit wary of wayland, so
I removed it and now the system boots.

[Bug 1782679] [NEW] systemd-resolved can't resolve at all, need to add nameservers to resolve.conf

2018-07-19 Thread Jason Heeris
Public bug reported:

I'm running Ubuntu 18.04 (upgraded from 17.10) on a machine with both
ethernet and wifi interfaces. When I boot, my ethernet connection
enp0s31f6 is brought up by Network Manager and given three nameserver
addresses via DHCP, 10.1.13.10, 10.1.141.10, 10.1.13.36. Running nmcli
shows the three nameservers under "DNS configuration". Running "systemd-

do a "ip route get to X" and ping each one successfully. No other
connection is active.

However, when I actually try to resolve a name, even the name of one of

Note that this name should resolve to 10.1.13.10, the first nameserver.
The "+nocookie" option is there to work around an issue with Windows DNS
servers. But other than that, the servers themselves work fine if I tell
dig where to look:

I have configured resolvconf to use dynamic updates. /etc/resolv.conf
points to /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf. This file contains only (non-
comments):

nameserver 127.0.0.53
search orgsdomain

If I add "nameserver 10.1.13.10" to this file manually, suddenly dig can
resolve again (without the @...), and anything else that needs to
resolve names can do so. Removing the nameserver breaks that again.

I don't know much about the servers. They're part of a Windows-based
network, but since I can use them if I edit resolv.conf or give dig the
address, I don't think they're the issue (except in the sense that maybe
they require a feature that systemd-resolved doesn't support?).

I increased the logging level of systemd-resolved to "debug" and
"journalctl -f -u systemd-resolved" shows this during a failed query:

Hello,

I have to say it happens very rarely with newer versions, it's much more
stable on my computer. But on another slower computer, it tend to happen
more frequently. I have found a workaround, which is deleting all local
cache of evolution, forcing it to resync the messages.

I can give you a mail account on my server if it helps for testing it
out. Might be the server/client combination problem too.

Thank you,
Cheers,

Calculator worked flawlessly in Advanced mode in 16.04 (and before).
Upgrade to 18.04 and this bug appeared (the bionic desktop visible in
the display window). Using the calculator produced overtyped characters
and weird gridding between the numbers displayed (see attached).
Switching from xim to ibus seems to have solved it.

[Bug 1780996] Re: Convert triggers to noawait

2018-07-19 Thread Brian Murray
Just to see what would happen I installed a bunch of these packages on
an Ubuntu 16.04 system w/o -proposed enabled, I then enabled -proposed
and upgraded the packages without any issue.

I then modified DistUpgradeController.py in the u-r-u tarball so that
-proposed would not be disabled during the upgrade process and upgraded
to Ubuntu 18.04 without any issue.

Here's the list of packages I installed:

[Bug 1782629] [NEW] mutter is ignoring wl_shell_surface_move and wl_shell_surface_resize

2018-07-19 Thread Christian Rauch
Public bug reported:

mutter (wayland) is ignoring wl_shell_surface_move and
wl_shell_surface_resize request, which prevents the use of subsurfaces
window decorations (example:
http://github.com/christianrauch/wayland_window_decoration_example). The
same example works on weston.

The fault is in the method "meta_wayland_pointer_can_grab_surface" where
"pointer->focus_surface == surface" does not hold for subsurfaces. The
attached patch removes the test for the focused surface and allows
resizing and moving of the wl_shell surface in the example.

Can it be that your dconf database is corrupt or with incorrect file

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2018-07-19 Thread attila123
Hi, I found a way to make the Alt + Shift keyboard switching working in Gnome 3
(tested with 3.28.2).
First examine this current setting:

dconf read /org/gnome/desktop/input-sources/xkb-options

(in my case it was empty)
Then set the appropriate options, e.g.:

dconf write /org/gnome/desktop/input-sources/xkb-options
"['grp:alt_shift_toggle']"

Now I can switch the keyboard layouts with Alt + Shift. (Earlier I might
deleted all the Alt + Shift + * keyboard shortcuts, I am not sure...
It is permanent, should work after logout + login and reboot.

To add the keyboard layouts, press Super key (default) and type/search
for "Region & Language" and add them under "Input Sources".

Hope it will help many people! :)

(I was inspired by
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/68/gnome-3-22-disable-
altshift-keyboard-layout-switching but it did the opposite thing.)

[Bug 1782535] Re: cifs - poor upload speed with nautilus compared to rsync

2018-07-19 Thread Florian Schwarz
Some additional performance measurements with dd...

speed test with /dev/zero

upload/write:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/cifs_media/test.iso bs=10M count=400
400+0 records in
400+0 records out
4194304000 bytes (4,2 GB, 3,9 GiB) copied, 40,4893 s, 104 MB/s

download/read:
dd if=/mnt/cifs_media/test.iso of=/dev/zero bs=10M
400+0 records in
400+0 records out
4194304000 bytes (4,2 GB, 3,9 GiB) copied, 37,393 s, 112 MB/s

More practical up- and download speeds

upload:
dd if=/home/me/file.iso of=/mnt/cifs_media/file.iso bs=10M
767+1 records in
767+1 records out
8048736256 bytes (8,0 GB, 7,5 GiB) copied, 93,209 s, 86,4 MB/s

download:
dd if=/mnt/cifs_media/file.iso of=/home/me/file2.iso bs=10M
767+1 records in
767+1 records out
8048736256 bytes (8,0 GB, 7,5 GiB) copied, 81,2462 s, 99,1 MB/s

So cifs and other underlying systems and hardware seem to be capable to
use maximum speed.

But more important, if I lower bs, the speed drops down really hard.
Upload with bs=...

So maybe the file managers and rsync or their underlying systems are
using these small bs?

[Bug 1780996] Re: Convert triggers to noawait

2018-07-19 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Hello Julian, or anyone else affected,

Accepted guile-2.2 into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/guile-2.2/2.2.3+1-3ubuntu0.1 in a
few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from
verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not
fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the
tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of
your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance!

** Changed in: guile-2.2 (Ubuntu Bionic)
   Status: In Progress => Fix Committed

[Bug 1782599] [NEW] Search field in "Open file" dialog loses focus after every character typed

2018-07-19 Thread Arthur Rodrigues
Public bug reported:

When we click in the magnifier icon next to the "Open" button in a
(system provided) "Open File" dialog to search for some file by name,
after each character typed, if there are any search results, the search
field loses focus to the list view of the results.

The correct behavior would be to maintain focus until we stopped typing
or even manually changed focus.

I've added a screencast of the problem as an attachment.

PS: I have no idea if this dialog is provided by nautilus, so I'm not marking
it here. Also, I tried using xprop to get the correct package, but it only
reports the application using it, not the one providing.

[Bug 1782585] [NEW] nautilus slice error copying files

2018-07-19 Thread Peter Jones
Public bug reported:

When copying certain files under Nautilus a 0 byte file is created and
error 'Error splicing file: Input/output error' is reported. It is not
clear what sort of drives are affected but it certainly occurs copying
to Dropbox and to a USB flash drive (NTFS).

Doing the copy with 'cp' at a terminal works fine. All files tried are
normal photos and docs, nothing large.

[Bug 1782573] [NEW] Remote X11vnc session unusable due to crash in gnome-shell when disconnecting HDMI monitor under Ubuntu Desktop 18.04 LTS

2018-07-19 Thread pataluna
Public bug reported:

Expect to happen: I can use X11VNC when the monitor is disconnected.

What happens instead: remote X11vnc session unusable due to crash in
gnome-shell when disconnecting HDMI monitor under Ubuntu Desktop 18.04
LTS

I'm using a stable system that works fine when the monitor is connected;
also X11VNC works fine.

But I want to access the GUI remotely via X11VNC when the HDMI monitor
is disconnected then the system is not usable (lots of gnome-shell
errors in syslog) and sometimes the gnome-shell will also segfault (the
segfault is not in this bugreport). The X11 remote viewer is full of
clutter (see screencast).

Please see below for the syslog entries when disconnecting the monitor
with no X11VNC active, and the syslog entries when the monitor is
disconnected and starting X11VNC.

[Bug 1782347] Re: [radeon] GDM3 fails to load without nomodeset

2018-07-19 Thread zanonmark
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  Both with the livecd (usb drive) and the installed version, I must boot with
the 'nomodeset' kernel parameter at GRUB; otherwise GDM3 will not boot (the
screen will keep on flashing in semi-textual mode, with a white mouse arrow
stuck).
  This, however, prevents me from using the 'radeon' video driver, dropping me
to a very basic 1024x768 vesa mode.

  The bug did NOT occur on Ubuntu 12.04, so it is a regression.
  Also, the bug does NOT occur on XUbuntu/XFCE 18.04, so it is a GDM3-Gnome
related thing.

  Thanks,
  MZ

[Bug 1782538] [NEW] test-sleep now fails in lxc/lxd container

Public bug reported:

Hybrid-sleep configured and possible: no
Suspend-then-Hibernate configured and possible: no
Unable to read extent map for '/usr/lib/systemd/tests/test-sleep':

This is introduced with the hybernate offset patchset.

Specifically, the last assertion introduced in test-sleep.c should be
guarded against lxc/lxd containers `test_fiemap`. This is to be improved
in a subsequent SRU.

[Bug 1782535] [NEW] cifs - poor upload speed with nautilus compared to rsync

2018-07-19 Thread Florian Schwarz
Public bug reported:

I'm mounting folders from my NAS on my computer (Ubuntu 18.04) with
cifs. Copying an 8 GB file...

Upload (local -> mounted)
- Nautilus/Nemo -> 6 MB/s
- rsync -> 50-60 MB/s

Download performance is also strange, but not my biggest concern.
Download (mounted -> local)
- Nautilus/Nemo -> 90 MB/s
- rsync -> 50-60 MB/s

rsync command (upload):
rsync --progress /home/me/file.iso /mnt/cifs_media/

fstab entry:
//nas/media /mnt/cifs_media cifs
vers=3.0,uid=me,gid=me,credentials=/home/me/.smbcredentials,dir_mode=0700,file_mode=0700
 0 0

Any idea, why Nautilus is uploading up to 10 times more slowly than
rsync, although both using the same cifs, os, hardware, network etc.?

PS: Further info for bug report
1) The release of Ubuntu: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
2) The version of the package: Nautilus 3.26.3
3) What you expected to happen: At least same speed as with using rsync
4) What happened instead: See above

** Affects: nautilus (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Description changed:

  I'm mounting folders from my NAS on my computer (Ubuntu 18.04) with
  cifs. Copying an 8 GB file...

  Upload (local -> mounted)
  - Nautilus/Nemo -> 6 MB/s
  - rsync -> 50-60 MB/s

  Download performance is also strange, but not my biggest concern.
  Download (mounted -> local)
  - Nautilus/Nemo -> 90 MB/s
  - rsync -> 50-60 MB/s

- rsync command (upload):
+ rsync command (upload):
  rsync --progress /home/me/file.iso /mnt/cifs_media/

- fstab entry:
+ fstab entry:
  //nas/media /mnt/cifs_media cifs
vers=3.0,uid=me,gid=me,credentials=/home/me/.smbcredentials,dir_mode=0700,file_mode=0700

- 3) What you expected to happen: At least same speed as rsync
+ 3) What you expected to happen: At least same speed as with using rsync
  4) What happened instead: See above

[Bug 1782534] [NEW] gnome software center shows only snaps

2018-07-19 Thread Emil Angelov
Public bug reported:

For nearly a month /from the end of June/ Ubuntu Software Center in
Ubuntu 16.04 shows only snaps - a few editor's picks. There are no
categories and .deb packages. Tab Installed is empty.

I tried to remove and reinstall gnome-software throug Synaptic Package
manager, deleted database file and cache but nothing works.

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
rm ~/.local/share/gnome-software/*

nothing works

I use Ubuntu 16.04.4 AMD 64
gnome-software 3.20.5-0ubuntu0.16.04.11

The upstream bug is also Intel:

I was too quick to blame Nvidia this time.
