[Bug 1825842] [NEW] Background goes white when using scaling (200%, 300% or 400%)

2019-04-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

As soon as I set my display to scaled (any percentage) via Settings ->
Displays -> Scale, the background image disappears and become all white.
When I choose a different background image via Settings -> Background
initially nothing happens. As soon as I switch back to 100% scaling, the
image I choose before now appears.

This problem started right after updating to 19.04. No such issues with
either 18.04 or 18.10.

When I first log in, the right-click context menus in Gedit works fine.
After some time of usage, the right-click context menu no longer appears.

  SIDE-EFFECT

[Bug 1825547] Re: old bug "nm-applet stop showing vpn status" is back

2019-04-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

  apport-collect 1825559

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

Still present in Ubuntu 19.04, fresh install.

(Although, now, clicking twice seems to bring up the authentication
dialog, and you don't have to click very rapidly).

[Bug 1292398] Re: Second screen position isn't saved from one session to another

2019-04-22 Thread Chris Rainey
@vanvugt: not sure if #136 is directed at my comment in #135, but the
_only_ way to produce the problem is to logout or reboot which naturally
involves the display manager. Again, the problem goes away, for my case,
simply by using a different display manager, as stated in #131.

The problem is clearly related to the display manager process as it
starts up the user session and is directly responsible for _causing_ the
issue for me.

If I use a different display manager with gnome-session(mutter), the
monitor settings work correctly.

To be clear: I don't care which monitor the login box widget is
displayed on. I care about the monitor/display orientation _after_ I
successfully login.

[Bug 1825919] [NEW] Right click context menu stops working

2019-04-22 Thread PJSingh5000
Public bug reported:

The Gedit text area right-click context menu stops appearing.

This bug affects Ubuntu 19.10, but may be a regression of old Bug
#1731581 from Ubuntu 17.10.

Gedit version: 3.32.0-3
Fresh install of Ubuntu 19.04
gkt-3 version: 3.24.8-1ubuntu1

RECREATING ISSUE

When I first log in, the right-click context menus in Gedit works fine.
After some time of usage, the right-click context menu no longer appears.

SIDE-EFFECT

A side-effect of this issue is that the mouse cursor does not revert to
a pointer style after doing a right-click. It retains the "I" (Insert)
shape even when you hover outside Gedit's text area.

[Bug 1716857] Re: gdm3, hybrid nvidia with modeset=1, no external monitors detected

2019-04-22 Thread Tim
I'm on Ubuntu 19.04 as well and having issues with this.

I have an i7-8750h paired with a gtx 1050ti in a Dell G515.

I don't exactly what I did, but I can give a general idea:

I decided this morning that battery life was important to me, so I
tinkered around with TLP. After I did that everything seemed fine, but
when I plugged an HDMI cord back into my laptop, after reenabling my
discrete GPU it no longer works. I have uninstalled and reinstalled TLP,
I have reinstalled gdm3, no dice, and I have tried reverting just about
everything I can think of that pertains to displays. I still can't get
it. Switching over to lightdm for now, this is very frustrating though.

Before I was working with TLP though, I was able to connect to external
displays via this HDMI cord no problem. I know it is not a hardware
issue because before I log in the external display shows the image I
have for my lockscreen. However, it's once I log in that the display
turns off. Hope this helps. I'd love to help get gdm3 working as well.
LMK if you need anything including logs.

[Bug 1825766] Re: search results don't match apt search

2019-04-22 Thread Stuardo -StR- Rodríguez
I never liked Ubuntu trying/forcing snaps, but for 19.04 I gave up and
tried to embrace it. It is very hard to know when to use gnome-software,
when to use apt, when to use snap. Before snaps, I was always able to
find every app via apt/aptitude, but now, this is very frustrating.

IMHO, if Ubuntu is pushing snaps so hard, we need a software-tool
alternative that can work with both sources.

2019-04-22 Thread Matthias Klumpp
You can expect to find an app in GNOME Software if it is a GUI
application (== has a .desktop file in /usr/share/applications/ that
isn't NoDisplay and of Type=Application). For anything else (that likely
includes phpMyAdmin) GNOME Software isn't the right tool and wasn't
designed for.

Apps will also definitely show up if they have AppStream metainfo files of type
desktop-application (so service-types are also excluded here, currently).
Also it appears that on Ubuntu Snaps aren't filtered by type.

[Bug 1825893] [NEW] Mounted disks not shown on desktop after enabling ubuntu-dock in Tweaks

2019-04-22 Thread Wolf Rogner
Public bug reported:

After enabling ubuntu-dock in Tweaks, disks get mounted, are shown in
Nautilus side bar but the desktop icon is missing.

This leads to the risk of disconnecting a disk that is mounted or write
operations are in progress.

How can I enable the feature again that disks that get mounted are shown
on the desktop?

And gnome/gnome-software ended closing that issue because they don't
think it is in gnome-software's scope.

As a user, I will/should not use nor recommend gnome-software as a
software management tool as I will never know if the app will be listed
in it or not.

[Bug 1778322] Re: gvfs-smb-browse can't browse samba/smb tree

2019-04-22 Thread Andreas Hasenack
It worked just fine on a disco desktop default install.

I brought up a bionic vm, which has samba running and set to a workgroup
called "workgroup" and has a /pub share. On disco, I click on "other
locations", then "windows network", and I see "WORKGROUP". I can click
on "WORKGROUP", which then shows me the other server. If I click on
that, I see the "pub" share.

The only samba packages you need for this network browsing are
installed: libsmbclient, libwbclient0, samba-libs. I have these with
version 4.10.0 as expected.
