[Bug 1854376] Re: Flathub Download Size is confusing

2019-11-28 Thread Robert Ancell
I'm pretty sure the Snap doesn't include the runtime, which is a little
confusing but something you generally only hit the first time you
download.

I recommend you file the Flatpak size issue in
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-software/issues as it's not
something we're actively working on in Ubuntu.

[Bug 1854379] Re: Snap packages sources are not stated on listings

2019-11-28 Thread Robert Ancell
This source field is only shown if the same app (as determined by
AppStream ID) is available from multiple sources (e.g. a Snap and a
Flatpak). In the case of snaps it wasn't showing because we haven't set
the "origin_hostname" field. https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-
software/merge_requests/374 proposes falling back to the "origin" field
(set to "Snap Store" for snaps.

We may also want to set the origin_hostname for snaps (to
"snapcraft.io"?) but this seems less readable than Snap Store.

[Bug 1854376] Re: Snap/Flathub Download Size is confusing

2019-11-28 Thread Yamin Bismilla
@Robert Ancell,

I was almost sure I had seen this impact Snap before. But I just
checkout quite a few Snap packages, and it only shows the Download Size
and they all seem reasonable.

Apologies, I must have remembered wrong. This doesn't impact Snaps it looks
like
(I will change the title/description if I can)

I guess the only thing that might impact Snap is if the DL size includes
the runtime, if that can be separated out as well, so people can gauge
how big the application is.

[Bug 1852183] Re: [X11] copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 19.10

2019-11-28 Thread Jeppe Bundsgaard
I experience this problem in all kinds of editors (LibreOffice, RStudio,
Evolution, Kate), and also sometimes when creating screen dumps to the
clipboard (ctrl+shift+print screen). I also thought it was connected to
Clipboard Indicator, but it didn't help de-activating it.

But, hopefully good news ahead: The bug should be fixed in gtk3 3.24.13
and mutter 3.34.2 according
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/issues/878#note_642048.

So now we just have to wait for Ubuntu to get to these versions. Anyway
we could get this first in line of updates? - it is extremely annoying.

2019-11-28 Thread Martin
I don't know how to reproduce the issue, other than it occasionally
happens when I open my laptop. I'm using Wayland for both GDM and the
GNOME session, on a laptop with Intel graphics (HD Graphics 5500 on an
Intel Core i5-5200U).

I will be running GDM and GNOME on X11 for a while from now to see if
the issue still occurs there.

[Bug 1854393] [NEW] The clock on the lock screen sometimes looks broken after resuming from sleep.

2019-11-28 Thread Martin
Public bug reported:

When resuming from sleep after locking my screen, GDM (or at least I'm
assuming the lock screen is from GDM?) will sometimes first draw the
time too far to the left (attachment 1), and when the minute changes,
the old time isn't cleared properly so the time looks broken (attachment
2).

[Bug 1854379] [NEW] Snap packages sources are not stated on listings

2019-11-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

As shown in the attaching (flathub_source_good.png), flathub packages shown in
listings with the:
'source: dl.flathub.org' shown directily without having to click into the
application package.

This is not the case for Snap packages. You have to click into the
listing to find out if it is a SNAP package or not.

This is confusing these days as you can have the same package from
multiple sources (ubuntu source, SNAP, flathub...)

SNAP sources should be shown the same way.

A user would want to know the source, especially if it is a SNAP/flatpak
because they would associate it with more frequent updates and the other
benefits of the packaging.

Ideally you could also filter based on the source as well

[Bug 1854376] [NEW] Snap/Flathub Download Size is confusing

2019-11-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The information provided for Snap/FlatPak packages is confusing and
should be improved.

For example, the Flatpak Developer Demo currently shows the following
information

Download Size = 918.1 MB
Installed Size = 257.5 KB

This is inconsistent and confusing. For my case, it led me to thinking
there was something wrong with Snap/flatpak packages. Why are they so
huge! Then I had to do some research.

It's my understanding this is due to possibly having to download and
install a 'runtime' along with the application. Please correct me if my
understanding is incorrect. In this case, as I don't have many flatpak
runtimes, the huge download size is probably to download the runtimes.
If I download another flatpak using the same runtime, the download size
would be much smaller as it would not need to redownload the runtime But
the install size is also not really 257.5 KB, as it is also going to
install a huge runtime. The reason why we're listing installed size is
to give an idea of how much disk space is going to be used anyways.

Proposed resolutions
1. Separate out application and runtimes in the display
a. Download Size = 200 KB, 900 MB runtime
b. Installed Size = 257.5 KB, 900 MB runtime
2. Have both items include the runtime
a. Download Size = 918.1 MB
b. Installed Size = 918.2 MB
3. Have both a total and a breakdown
a. Download Size = 918.1 MB ( 200KB application, 900 MB runtime)
b. Installed Size = 918.2 MB ( 257.5 KB application, 900 MB runtime)
4. Separate out the runtimes as a dependency or something like that
a. Download Size = 200 KB
b. Installed Size = 257.2 KB
This option is confusing as it would not give a good indicator of how long
the download would be. But maybe there is a better way overall to handle
dependencies like this in software center, so I just threw this in as an option

[Bug 1854357] Re: Mounted drives' icons overlap on desktop

2019-11-28 Thread Sebastien Bacher
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1063487 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1063487

The nautilus code to handle the desktop has been removed in 18.10, the
bug can be different or a variant, the outcome is the same, the bug is
deprecated by the fact the feature has been removed.

In 18.10 a new component handle the desktop which does not have this
issue (though it has other limitation)

The issue while annoying is mostly cosmectic/easy to work around so I
don't expect it to rank high enough in our priority list to see a fix
being worked on for 18.04 at this point

[Bug 1854346] [NEW] No choice can be made to format non-listed file type

2019-11-28 Thread Emerson1000
Public bug reported:

By GUI, no choice can be made to format a partition to a non-listed file
system type since version 3.28 (only verified versions in LTS Ubuntu and
derivatives).

Here talking about gnome-disk-utility 3.28 in PeppermintOS 10 (based on
Lubuntu LTS).

For exanmple, in former versions (3.18) there was a menu driven
possibilty to insert a non-listed file type into a blank input field by
typing the file system's name; for ex.: "reiserfs" or "reiser4"

Now, how to input file system types not listed in the menus of 3.28 ?

Workaround ?

[Bug 1852183] Re: [X11] copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 19.10

2019-11-28 Thread René Vangsgaard
I experience this on Ubuntu 19.10 using Wayland. To me it seems that the
copy operation fails, because I use the Gnome extension Clipboard
Indicator, and often the copied text is not present.

Copy and pasting screen shot does not work any more.

I started experiencing this approximately 2 weeks ago. Before that, I
have have successfully run Ubuntu 19.10 without copy-paste issues.
