I can reproduce this bug, the same happens for me after a fresh install
of focal-daily. A workaround for me was to remove snapd and reinstall
it.

Using a wrapper script for gnome-shell actually breaks things, because
now systemd thinks the wrong process is sending ready signals
(everything starts up fine, but then gets killed after 10 seconds once
systemd decides its timed out).
And the problem is that all the processes inherit their

Another possible solution could be to revert the Steam Installer
AppStream file changes completely (keep just the http/https changes and
appdata/metainfo file rename). The .desktop suffix in tag is not
used anymore and the stock icon type is not good according to the
appstream-util validator, but
