[Bug 1876170] Re: Monitor setups including portrait orinted monitors cause horizontal resolution to increase

2020-04-30 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I experienced the same weird unwanted screen panning with the Nvidia-440
driver today. But in my case only a single monitor is connected.

I suspect the new fractional scaling feature might be related. I was
able to fix it by deleting ~/.config/monitors.xml though next time it
happens I will be sure to analyse the file and see what's wrong it it.

[Bug 1876227] [NEW] ubuntu 20.04 monitor scaling broken

2020-04-30 Thread Martin Gerdzhev
Public bug reported:

I have 2 4k monitors and a 3rd with a lower res. When changing the scaling of
the 4k monitors to 150 - 200%, they just turn off . This used to work on 19.01.
If I set them to 125, then I get one big virtual monitor that I can scroll with
the mouse and the screen positions change. When putting them back in the
correct place, the scaled monitors turn off again.
PS. I use Nvidia drivers, so may be related to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1873403 .

[Bug 1874262] Re: User session does not start: Problem with chrome-remote-desktop

2020-04-30 Thread Erik Jensen
I can confirm that this upstream commit fixes the issue:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gdm/-/commit/32646105196ed7a687f3684b69ea544dd01d2ade?merge_request_iid=90

I've attached it as a patch, and verified that it applies cleanly to
gdm3-3.34.1 and resolves the issue on Ubuntu 19.10.

Can the patch be applied to the Ubuntu packages?

[Bug 1766230] Re: Strange window matching behaviour between Slack and Chrome

2020-04-30 Thread Riccardo
[Ubuntu 19.10] PhpStorm, snap installed, seems working well (eg. when I
run a debug session it opens chromium and the launcher icons are well
associated). When I open a link on Slack, also snap installed, the new
window appears in the "all windows" section of the contextual menu of
the Slack launcher icon.

[Bug 1876141] Re: before login screen the setup forces a new login name

2020-04-30 Thread Peter Sluka
the offending program is gnome-initial-setup. I can exit [via a timeout] but
that give a black screen which I break out of with Ctrl-Alt-Del, but that
just puts me back at the same gnome-initial-setup. The only way forward seems
to let it add a new user. At the login screen of that new user, I then click
on "login as another user" which then gets me to my "real" user and all is fine
after that.

[Bug 1876172] [NEW] While fractional scaling is enabled (125%), fullscreen video resizes

2020-04-30 Thread Sebastian Astra
Public bug reported:

I think it is related to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/+bug/1862081
If you enable fractional scaling, for example 125%, and play video in
fullscreen mode (youtube, vlc, gnome videos), application will constantly
resize. This makes fullscreen mode unsuable.

Problem does NOT occur when you disable fractional scaling. This bug has
100% reproducibility. I don't really know if it's mutter fault, but this
is the only culprit I found in my research. If any more information is
required, please let me know.

I'm changed graphics driver to OpenSource and it resolved this problem

Yes the space could be relevant, search for "ignorespace" in bash's
manual.

Also, it's the shell (bash) handling the history, not the terminal.

[Bug 1876067] [NEW] Remote desktop does not work

2020-04-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I am testing with the new Ubuntu 20.04, although I got similar problems
with 18.04 in the past.

I have always been jealous of Microsoft Windows systems in this respect:
enable an option with the mouse, and remote desktop works straight away
with very few issues. On Linux, I have always had problems in this area.

I tried installing xrdp, like some websites suggest. This throws up the
infamous "Could not acquire name on session bus" error message, and
causes problems all over the place.

Further problem description and technical details are here:

https://github.com/neutrinolabs/xrdp/wiki/Debian-dbus-user-session-
package

There is a similar issue recorded here, but that seems related to chrome
remote desktop:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mate/+bug/1769353

Is there an alternative to get remote desktop working with little pain?
Hopefully without editing configuration files etc. I heard that there is
something called X2Go, which is allegedly slow and buggy.

[Bug 1876153] [NEW] Can't log into cloud services because of compositing is enbled

2020-04-30 Thread Ihor Romanyshyn
Public bug reported:

Hi there!
Tomorrow I have installed the new 20.04 and found that I can't log into Google,
Microsoft, and Flickr because that small window looks empty. But I can log into
Facebook and Foursquare, which is very strange for me.
So I used Google to search for my problem's solution and found this:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1086983/google-account-in-online-accounts-is-blank-from-the-start-in-ubuntu-18-10
And it helped me to see that window, so I'm able to log-in. But it's a bug, I
think. Also, I think it's related to my GPU's proprietary nvidia-driver-390 and
I'm planning to check it with xserver-xorg-video-nouveau later. Also, my laptop
has internal graphics, which also may cause this problem. I'm ready to provide
any additional information, just ask.

What expected: to log-in to Google cloud account with settings window.
What happened: an empty window appears.
Workaround: run Control Center from Terminal, using
'WEBKIT_DISABLE_COMPOSITING_MODE=1 gnome-control-center' to temporarily disable
compositing for it.

No, the purpose is to change the theme, it's used in the desktop view
but also in other graphical elements

The issue has been marked invalid for gnome-control-center because it's
not a bug in that component, it's still open and valid for the desktop
icons

[Bug 1876141] [NEW] before login screen the setup forces a new login name

2020-04-30 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The Welcome/setup screen runs every time after the initial login. Each
time it forces a new login name. This become the default login which is
NOT wanted. Furthermore, the previous setups force you to re-name your
language, livepatch etc choices.

Fix plymouth or whatever keeps calling the Welcome screen after the
installation of 20.04 onto a hard disk.

[Bug 1875037] Re: Turning off high contrast does not revert the desktop icons' appearance

2020-04-30 Thread Bob Reed
The purpose of the setting is to change the desktop view. Changing the
setting should force a display refresh. So I'm not sure I would change
the status to "Invalid".

[Bug 1875845] Re: keyring cannot be unlocked if used fingerprint to login gnome session

2020-04-30 Thread Treviño
We've been looking this a bit with security team, the outcome is:

 1. Gnome-keyring needs a password to unlock and it matches the login one by
default,
so it only unlocks in such case
 2. It's not too bad from a security POV to actually require a proper password
to unlock
all the secrets
 3. User may still want it, but this needs work.

[Bug 1852183] Re: [X11] copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 19.10 & 20.04

2020-04-30 Thread Andrew
Bug impacts cntl-c and and cntrl-v between txt documents and the
terminal. It's intermittent as I can copy sometime. There is the strange
effect if I am in the terminal and copy from the browser. Occasionally
it copies text to the window I am not on. I'm surprised its not
effecting more people. Really impact my productivity.

[Bug 1874856] Re: Unwanted mouse trail

2020-04-30 Thread Christians
Tested again a few times: I confirm that switching to nouveau removes
the mouse trail but slows down the desktop to unworkable.

To clarify #6: It could be that in my first test I did not reboot, although
this is quite unlikely.
I could re-install the OS if you want me to try to replicate this.

What is for sure is that the Driver's GUI [attached] has issues:
1) After switching to nouveau (and reboot) it does not highlight "nouveau", but
points to a new menu entry, "Continue using manually installed driver".
2) Options of switching drivers are greyed out after switching to Nouveau.
3) Claims that my Wifi is not working, but it works just fine.

Annother strange behaviour occurred today: The reboot after switching to
Nouveau gets stuck at every boot with

 /dev/sda6 clean, 234123/26879978 files, 4048798/11234253 blocks

Workaround is booting into recovery, then select boot from there - it
boots. This problem does disappear after switching to the proprietary
display driver.

[Bug 1876076] [NEW] SRU the current 3.36.2 stable update

2020-04-30 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Public bug reported:

* Impact
That's the current GNOME stable update, including some translation updates
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-desktop/-/blob/gnome-3-36/NEWS

* Test case

The update is part of GNOME stable updates
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME

Check that a GNOME session still works correctly, including changing the
background image, locale and screen settings. The GNOME version in
setting should also be 3.36.2

Targetting to bionic and I've uploaded a SRU fix for that serie

The fix needs to be reviewed/approved before being available, the bug
will be updated when that happens

** Description changed:

- Choosing "publish" and then Flickr requires me to log into my Flickr

[Bug 1875845] Re: keyring cannot be unlocked if used fingerprint to login gnome session

2020-04-30 Thread warenix
Attached is the output of `journalctl -f` for the above screencast
action.

Like I said in the 1st post, I discovered the issue because of using
remmina to launch remote desktop. This is the message I got in terminal:

❯ remmina
Remmina plugin glibsecret (type=Secret) has registered but not yet
initialized/activated. Initialization order is 2000.
