[Bug 1878906] Re: copy/paste (clipboard) is broken in Ubuntu 18.04

2020-05-19 Thread Manfred Steiner
I am sorry, but the bug is not fixed. The bug now occurs very rarely (I
would estimate 1:20 -> 20 times normal, 1 times not working). So the
dist-upgrade has improved the situation, but not solved.

[Bug 1879020] Re: Mouse pointer keeps flashing while fractional scaling is enabled

2020-05-19 Thread Swift Lee
well I have to correct the trigger of this bug
The Fractional Scaling will not cause this problem. Once I connect to an
external monitor, the mouse pointer starts flashing.

  I'm running 20.04 LTS on Surface Book 2 15',and I connect a external display
via USB-C dock. I need to use different scaling settings for different
monitors, so I enabled Fractional Scaling. After that the mouse pointer starts
flashing all the time, especially in some system apps like settings.
The internal display is 200% scaling and 100% for the external one.

Thanks for the bug report.

Please:

1. Open a terminal window and run 'top'. Now when the stutter is
happening what processes does 'top' report as using the most CPU?

2. Run:

Seems the issue only occurs at low resolution.

It's also unclear if the problem is specific to ubuntu-dock like some of
our other overview bugs are. When I disabled ubuntu-dock the bug stopped
happening. But when I re-enabled it the bug also stopped happening.

[Bug 1879600] Re: Show Applications > All jitters and does not display the second page

2020-05-19 Thread sleipnir
** Description changed:

  What happens:
I click on "Show Applications" and select the "All" option at the bottom. I
click on the dots on the right to try to view the next page of apps. The button
highlights and reacts to my clicks as it normally would, but I can not view the
other page of apps. When I am under "All", the "Frequent" and "All" buttons at
the bottom of the screen start to jitter up and down, as well as the dots on
the right. This goes away as soon as I switch to "Frequent". Everything
described can be seen on the attached video.

  What I expect to happen:
I expect to be able to have the dots on the right allow me to view both
pages of my installed apps when I select them, and all of the elements on the
screen to display properly.

  Reproduce?
- I don't think that this issue can be reproduced easily, without my exact
configuration. I found almost nothing about this online. I have a fresh
install, and the issue appeared as soon as I installed Ubuntu and selected "All
Apps">"Frequent". My display is 1024x600 if that helps.
+ I think that this issue is display related. I have a fresh install, and the
issue appeared as soon as I installed Ubuntu and selected "All
Apps">"Frequent". My display is 1024x600 if that helps, and after posting this
I received a comment from another Ask Ubuntu user who said that they had this
issue when the monitor was around 1024x768 but resolved itself at higher
resolutions.

Here is my Ask Ubuntu post outlining the issue in detail:

[Bug 1879600] [NEW] Show Applications > All jitters and does not display the second page

2020-05-19 Thread Karsten Buhler
Public bug reported:

What happens:
I click on "Show Applications" and select the "All" option at the bottom. I
click on the dots on the right to try to view the next page of apps. The button
highlights and reacts to my clicks as it normally would, but I can not view the
other page of apps. When I am under "All", the "Frequent" and "All" buttons at
the bottom of the screen start to jitter up and down, as well as the dots on
the right. This goes away as soon as I switch to "Frequent". Everything
described can be seen on the attached video.

What I expect to happen:
I expect to be able to have the dots on the right allow me to view both pages
of my installed apps when I select them, and all of the elements on the screen
to display properly.

Reproduce?
I don't think that this issue can be reproduced easily, without my exact
configuration. I found almost nothing about this online. I have a fresh
install, and the issue appeared as soon as I installed Ubuntu and selected "All
Apps">"Frequent". My display is 1024x600 if that helps.

Here is my Ask Ubuntu post outlining the issue in detail:
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1241165/should-i-report-show-
applications-not-scrolling-as-a-bug

Please forgive any errors, as this is my first bug report.

[Bug 1825593] Re: Display scale not remembered when X11 Fractional Scaling is enabled

2020-05-19 Thread Karl Nicoll
Hi Daniel,

Thanks. `dpkg -s libmutter-6-0 | grep Version` indicated I was still on
the old version, turns out I had upgraded mutter, but also needed to
upgrade libmutter as well:

# apt upgrade mutter/focal-proposed
# apt upgrade gir1.2-mutter-6/focal-proposed libmutter-6-0/focal-proposed

I've run the upgrade and rebooted and the settings are now read
correctly (the screen layout and scaling were preserved after the
restart).

Nothing more needed at this point, issue appears fixed to me.

Thanks,

Karl

[Bug 1864307] Re: Many apps have no icon in Software on Focal

2020-05-19 Thread Brian Murray
Hello AsciiWolf, or anyone else affected,

Accepted ubuntu-meta into focal-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-meta/1.450.1
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been
performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-
focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you,
please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-
failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will
not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s)
fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in
-proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

While this has been tested on an Ubuntu desktop system, other flavours
have not been tested (to ensure they do not regress) so I'm setting the
bug back to verification-needed.

[Bug 1879543] [NEW] "Check for updates" button doesn't work

2020-05-19 Thread ph
Public bug reported:

Every time I go into Settings (by L clicking the downward triangle in the upper
R of the screen), L clicking the button that shows a icon of a screwdriver and
a wrench crossing each other).
I go to Details.
I go to the About tab.
I Left click the “Check for updates” button.

This function has NEVER worked properly on this laptop. It always opens
another window that says “Software is up to date”.

I know that the software is not up to date (confirmed in aptitude).

As a work around, I have been applying updates through sudo aptitude in
a terminal window, but I thought it would be nice for you Ubuntu folks
to know the GUI tool for checking for updates has never been working on
this laptop (for years).

It did not ever work for 18.04.4 for years. I'm going to update to v
20.04.4 this week but it's a long time bug so I think it probably won't
be updated in v 20 either.

Thanks.

[Bug 1879468] [NEW] The copy progress shows more number of files copied than the total files present for large number of file transfer from external harddisk

2020-05-19 Thread Kushan
Public bug reported:

Check the attached screenshot, x out of y (denoted by x/y) in copy
progress is somehow bugged. In this scenario the x goes above y which
shouldn't be allowed.

That means that maybe the initial calculation in large number of files
is bugged. A solution without compromising performance is that as soon
as you start going up, at the end you also increase the total count
before actually increasing x. But that would be kind of like a work-
around.

The best thing would be to check the counting of actual files copied as
well as the calculation of initial total number of files during the
beginning of copy

[Bug 1878998] Re: Value in Yaru-dark/gnome-shell/gnome-shell.css not used

2020-05-19 Thread Carlo Lobrano
Hi Daniel,

in gnome-shell selected text inside a StEntry is supposed to have orange
background and white text, regardless the variant (light or dark), so I don't
expect this issue to be related to bug 1842886, unless I am missing something
here.
We have the same issue reported in Yaru's github repo and I worked a little on
it without being able to have a selected foreground color work yet.

- The Ubuntu Error Tracker has been receiving reports about a problem regarding
gnome-shell. This problem was most recently seen with package version
3.36.1-5ubuntu2, the problem page at
https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/4de3d315d9df1c9699bda54beafa8d52053c
contains more details, including versions of packages affected, stacktrace or
traceback, and individual crash reports.
- If you do not have access to the Ubuntu Error Tracker and are a software
developer, you can request it at http://forms.canonical.com/reports/.
+ None known. The plan is to just continue monitoring crash reports.
+ Still, we are confident this is the fix because:
+
+ * The offending source code in libx11 tells us it is :) and
+ * The crash only started in Ubuntu with gnome-shell 3.34, which is the
+exact release in which XInitThreads was removed from mutter.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ Low. We add a single function call that tells libX11 to enable thread
+ safety. This same function call is one we had in bionic, cosmic and
+ disco.

[Bug 1879385] Re: Unable to star files and folders in Dropbox folder in Ubuntu 20.04

2020-05-19 Thread Marek Lichtner
After Dropbox is installed, it creates folder "{homedir}/Dropbox," and
all files are synchronized from your dropbox account. So before it,
there is no Dropbox folder in your home dir. I did not test it before
Dropbox was installed, but I guess there will be no problem to star this
file.

Now I checked my dropbox account; there is also feature to star files.
Maybe there is a conflict between dropbox and nautilus star
functionality.

menu in Nautilus after right click on file. Outside the Dropbox folder it works
fine. I am not sure if it is bug of Dropbox extension or Nautilus.
