[Bug 1885346] [NEW] gnome-shell-calendar-server leaks GBs of memory every few days

2020-06-26 Thread Heewa Barfchin
Public bug reported:

It's been happening repeatedly over the last maybe week? I have to
manually kill it about once a day, when I start to feel everything slow
down as the OS starts to swap.

Actually, I tracked down and fixed a few leaks in the code, and it looks
stable so far. I'll submit a patch soon, as well as send the fix
upstream to Gnome.

Encountered this problem two times in 20.04 LTS. Both times were after I
moved away from my computer to go eat, and came back to see this bug.

Tried "Alt+F2" and typed "r", dialog disappeared.

[Bug 1849888] Re: evince crashes (segmentation fault) when opening file rfc8655.pdf and other new-format Internet standards

2020-06-26 Thread Erik Auerswald
This problem still affects 18.04 ("bionic"), as is obvious from the bug
history.

A similar, but different, problem still affects current evince versions,
including those newer than the version in 19.10, see
https://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/msg/tools-discuss/hgenvnKeP9zX-
IBX5FyD6zyEkmI/ .

Please see bug #1885313
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/evince/+bug/1885313) which is
actually not a duplicate of this one.

Thanks,
Erik

[Bug 1885313] Re: evince crashes when opening rfc8798.pdf

2020-06-26 Thread Erik Auerswald
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1849888 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1849888

Thanks for looking at this bug report.

While this crash looks similar, and all the other problematic RFC
documents still crash the evince version in 18.04, there is another
report of issues with this specific file on an IETF mailing list:

https://mailarchive.ietf.org/arch/msg/tools-discuss/hgenvnKeP9zX-
IBX5FyD6zyEkmI

There it is reported that evince versions 3.30.2 and 3.36.5 cannot open
_this_ file (https://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc/rfc8798.pdf).  Since the
evince in 19.10 that supposedly fixes the issue in bug #1849888 is
3.34.1-1, this bug is with a high probability _not_ a duplicate of said
bug. It probably is related, but not the same.

And while initially all new format RFCs crashed evince, in the interim
many additional new format RFCs have been published, and not all of them
crash evince, not even the version in 18.04.

Looking at the evince versions in 20.04 (3.36.0-2) and the in-
development "groovy" (3.36.5-2), this issue may well affect all the
bleeding edge Ubuntu versions as well, opposed to #1849888.

Thus I do think that this bug is distinct from #1849888 and not a
duplicate.

Thanks,
Erik

[Bug 1280300] Re: Desktop contents displayed on resume, before lock screen is shown

2020-06-26 Thread roots
The issue still persists in Ubuntu 20.04. Running mate with lightdm and
light-locker configured to lock-on-suspend enabled. After resuming, the
desktop contents before suspend are visible for roughly 5 seconds,
before the lock screen appears.

As this is absolutely unacceptable in terms of security and privacy, I'm
using the following script to suspend (thanks to gethin for the
pointer!):

#!/bin/bash
mate-screensaver-command -l
systemctl suspend

The actual video publishing to youtube failed on quote error but the

number of users or with the account used for publishing

the error printed on the standard output

It's also worth noting that the UI states that the publish succeded
while the error is printed on the command line and the video isn't

[Bug 1885287] Re: some minimum versions in the symbols file are not updated

2020-06-26 Thread Zhouyang Jia
Also, g_utf8_make_valid is introduced in 2.51.0, but changed from 2.51.4
to 2.51.5:

//glib-2.51.4/glib/gunicode.h
gchar *g_utf8_make_valid(const gchar *str);

//glib-2.51.5/glib/gunicode.h
gchar *g_utf8_make_valid(const gchar *str, gssize len);

The minimum version should be 2.51.5, instead of 2.51.0 in the symbols
file.

[Bug 1885287] [NEW] some minimum versions in the symbols file are not updated

2020-06-26 Thread Zhouyang Jia
Public bug reported:

Hi,

The signature of the following symbols changed from glib-2.39.1 to
glib-2.39.2:

//glib-2.39.1/glib/ghash.h
void g_hash_table_insert(...);
void g_hash_table_replace(...);
void g_hash_table_add(...);

//glib-2.39.2/glib/ghash.h
gboolean g_hash_table_insert(...);
gboolean g_hash_table_replace(...);
gboolean g_hash_table_add(...);

However, the minimum versions of these symbols in the symbols file are
all 2.12.0.

The minimum versions are supposed to be 2.39.2, or a client using a
gboolean return value may be linked to an old version returning void.

Best,
Zhouyang

[Bug 1885026] Re: Fractional scaling contains 175% option twice

2020-06-26 Thread Niels Keurentjes
Thanks Daniel for referencing that comment, it's indeed also relevant
here.

It seems weird as a whole that the available scaling options appear to
depend on common monitor resolutions. As stated there at 3840x2075
(that's 4k minus the VMware window borders) I see the
100/125/175/175/250 selector, at 3480x1859 I don't even get any
fractional scaling options at all.

It looks like somebody tried to make it really user friendly by
tailoring the experience towards the end user ("nobody wants 300%
scaling on a 640x480 screen") and then completely overlooked the
windowed VM scenario, or any kind of remote desktop where you also want
to be able to set the scaling correctly based on the host machine's
resolution.
