2020-07-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The upstream fix seems to be in 3.37.1 and 3.36.2. Yet focal has 51
crash reports in 3.36.2 and later. So I think the upstream bug maybe
should still be open (not a duplicate):

  https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/2596

That said, 51 is much lower than the 3000 crash reports from
3.36.0-3.36.1 so maybe upstream did fix most of the problem.

[Bug 1871849] Re: Full screen videos suddenly change scale when using fractional scaling

2020-07-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
For fullscreen apps that don't have an absolute scale it makes a lot of
sense to treat those as native resolution, without any fractional
scaling. Because their visual elements are measured as a fraction of the
screen size, meaning they're scale-less. So giving the user the maximum
resolution and the ability to unredirect for maximum performance makes
the most sense.

1. All USB devices disconnected and reconnected on random times.

2. When I move my mouse, then I get constantly the following error message:

I don't have problems with suspend any longer. I think this bug is
fixed.

However I'm not using the standard kernel. I'm using Kernel:
5.7.7-050707-generic x86_64.
I had a problem with Chrome freezing the computer and this kernel fixed
that problem.

[Bug 1871849] Re: Full screen videos suddenly change scale when using fractional scaling

2020-07-14 Thread Treviño
I don't agree we shouldn't target games.

However, maybe we can maybe black-list some video players and browsers.
Not sure that would break webgl though.

2020-07-14 Thread Auke
Public bug reported:

gnome calendar: 3.36.1
nextcloud: 15.0.4.0 (on a remote server)
Ubuntu: 20.04 LTS

When I change the date/time for an event in the gnome calendar, it
crashes after submitting the change in nextcloud.

The only output on the commandline is 'Segmentation fault (core dumped)'

It doesn't matter if I change the date/time through the dialog or by
dragging.

[Bug 1876281] Re: 20.4 - ssh/sftp - bookmark not working

2020-07-14 Thread Dmitry Shachnev
Yes, I am working on a fix for Focal.

** Description changed:

- Hi,
-
- i want to try to create a bookmark from an sshfs-folder mounted by
- nautilus in Ubuntu 20.04.
-
- - enable Address-bar in nautilus (found no way to do it via gui): gsettings
set org.gnome.nautilus.preferences always-use-location-entry true
- - connect to a ssh/sftp-share by entering address: e.g. ssh://192.168.0.10 -
connection worked
- - now i try to add a bookmark for it by make rightclick on mounted-filesystem
in the left list - bookmark created and visible in locations menu on
gnome-flashback and inside nautilus
- - i can access the bookmark while i'm connected...but if i reboot the
bookmark does not work anymore...only display error that it's not mounted. on
18.4 it will be mounted again (asking credentionals before of course).

-
  [Impact]

- * An explanation of the effects of the bug on users and
+ Users cannot open remote filesystems by clicking bookmarks in gnome-
+ panel (Places menu or its "Recent documents" submenu).

- users using gnome-flashback cannot open remote filesystems by clicking
- bookmark in gnome-panel
-
- * justification for backporting the fix to the stable release.
-
- patch is compatible with code of gnomepanel (3.36.1) in ubuntu 20.4,
- ubuntu 18.4 not affected
-
- * In addition, it is helpful, but not required, to include an
-explanation of how the upload fixes this bug.
-
-g_file_mount_enclosing_volume is now called if the volume is not
- mounted yet instead of displaying an error
+ This is fixed by calling g_file_mount_enclosing_volume if the volume is
+ not mounted yet, instead of displaying an error.

  [Test Case]

- * detailed instructions how to reproduce the bug
-
- - start window-session with gnome-flashback
+ - install gnome-session-flashback and log into GNOME Flashback (Metacity)
session
  - open nautilus
- - access an remote filesystem (e.g. ssh://192.168.0.x - server with sftp
enabled in lan)
- by pressing Ctrl-L to show addressbar and insert the adress
- - create a bookmark of this session
- - umount the share
- - click on bookmark in gnome-panel
-
- * these should allow someone who is not familiar with the affected
-package to reproduce the bug and verify that the updated package fixes
-the problem.
+ - access a remote filesystem (e.g. ssh://192.168.0.x - server with sftp
enabled in lan) by pressing Ctrl-L to show address bar and inserting the address
+ - create a bookmark for it by opening Nautilus context menu and clicking "Add
to Bookmarks"
+ - unmount the share
+ - click on bookmark in gnome-panel Places menu

  [Regression Potential]

- imho this can only be answered by author of Patch :)
+ This bug itself is a regression from previous releases, e.g. in Ubuntu
+ 18.04 it worked fine.

- * discussion of how regressions are most likely to manifest as a result
- of this change.
+ Most of the new code is executed within the "if (g_error_matches (error,
+ G_IO_ERROR, G_IO_ERROR_NOT_MOUNTED))" block, so it is executed only
+ where previously there was an error.

- * It is assumed that any SRU candidate patch is well-tested before
-upload and has a low overall risk of regression, but it's important
-to make the effort to think about what ''could'' happen in the
-event of a regression.
+ The only change outside that block is factoring out the
+ launch_uri_show_error_dialog function, but the logic is not changed.

- * This both shows the SRU team that the risks have been considered,
-and provides guidance to testers in regression-testing the SRU.
+ In any case, the potential regressions would be limited to handling
+ items in the Places menu.

  [Other Info]

- no idea what to write here :)
-
- * Anything else you think is useful to include
- * Anticipate

[Bug 1887514] [NEW] Some desktop files don't open with double click or Enter

2020-07-14 Thread Philippe Volte--Vieira
Public bug reported:

I have two folders visible in my desktop but not in the folder desktop
(personal folder and trash), they were there when I installed Ubuntu.
Some days ago I've added two .txt files on the desktop folder.

Theses two files don't open when I double click, select and press Enter,
or right click and select "open". To open them from the desktop, I have
to right click, select "open with another application", then it opens a
window and I select my program.

After doing it two times and execute ubuntu-bug, select "open with..."
don't open anymore the window but opens directly the file with the
program I've selected before (it acts like "open").

To pinpoint the problem, I've copied two new .txt files, one with
nautilus and one with right click on the desktop. Theses new files open
normally, with double click or select and Enter.

So the two other files are kind of locked...

I am not sure if the problem comes from xdg-desktop-portal package, but
I could not find a "better" package...

[Bug 1887504] [NEW] On first launch system sounds shown at 0% volume but really are not

2020-07-14 Thread Nick
Public bug reported:

Fresh installation + updates of 20.04. The system sounds (e.g. plugging
in charger) volume is shown to be at 0% volume but they are still
playing. This is worked around by dragging the slider up then back to

[Bug 1716857] Re: nvidia-drm.modeset=1, gdm3 and optimus laptop results in no external monitors detected by Xorg

2020-07-14 Thread Kai-Chuan Hsieh
Test on Intel Tiger Lake platform with nvidia dGPU (N17S-G5
PCI\VEN_10DE_1C94).

Distribution: Ubuntu
Codename: focal
kernel: 5.6.0-1018-oem
NV driver: 440.100
nvidia_drm modeset=1
gdm3: 3.34.1-1ubuntu1
xserver-xorg-core: 2:1.20.8-2ubuntu2.1

The device can detect external 4K/UHD monitor sucessfully by HDMI or DP.
It seems the original issue is not able to reproduce on this machine.
However, the modeset has to be enabled for
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-390/+bug/1769857/comments/5,
but it is disabled by default currently.
