[Bug 1894874] Re: [SRU] New upstream release 3.36.3

2020-09-08 Thread Daniel van Vugt
** Description changed:

  [ Description ]

We should ship the stable update for gdm3

  - Always use separate session bus for greeter sessions
  - Chrome remote desktop fix
  - Don't hardcode path to plymouth
- - Fixes for when GDM isn't started on its configured initial VT (LP:
-   #1845801)
+ - Fixes for when GDM isn't started on its configured initial VT (LP:
#1845801)
  - keyutils has a .pc file so use it
This runs dbus-run-session, so the binary needs to be available
  - User switching fix

We have a GNOME MRE so upstream's fixes don't need to be explicitly
  verified.

  [ QA ]

  Test:

  1. Regular login
  2. Auto-login
  3. Fast user switching
  4. X and Wayland
  5. Launching different sessions

  [ Regression potential ]

It's the program which logs you in to your session - the consequences
could be severe up to and including nobody being able to log in using
  gdm.

I disagree because the app grid icon is already nicely symbolic, not
textual. This bug is mainly about replacing a textual 'Activities'

Public bug reported:

1) Ubuntu 20.04
2) Gnome 3.36
3) There could be an option to change the "Applications Overview" button style.
Currently, the "Applications Overview" button style is a 3x3 grid. There could
be a 3x3 grid option, Ubuntu logo option, (any other suggested icons) and a
custom icon option.
4) There is not an option to change the "Applications Overview" button style.

[Bug 1861025] Re: Keyboard shortcut "Search" shows as disabled, yet it still works, and custom shortcut unable to use the Search key

2020-09-08 Thread Christopher Barrington-Leigh
This problem is no better on 20.04.

-> In the Keyboard Shortcuts dialogue, no function is assigned to the
"Search" key.
-> There is a custom keyboard shortcut assigned to Ctrl-Search. It works
fine.
-> When I try to set a custom shortcut to the Search key, instead, the desktop
pops into zoomed-out-view-all-my-windows view whenever I press the Search key,
even though I have clicked "Set Shortcut" and the key should be trapped

-> Moreover, even if I set the key with the command

gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.media-keys.custom-
keybinding:/org/gnome/settings-daemon/plugins/media-keys/custom-
keybindings/custom8/ binding 'Search'

It now shows up correctly in the dialogue listing shortcuts, but the
action of the key is unchanged: it still just displays the Super-key
overview view rather than carrying out my custom shortcut function

The "Search" key corresponds to pressing the F10 key, without the Fn
modifier, on this Lenovo T450s, running 20.04.

Please help me disable this behaviour that seems hard-wired to this key!
This is a regression since 19.10, as mentioned before.

[Bug 1894878] [NEW] gedit has lost the ability to specify the max-recents value

2020-09-08 Thread Paddy Landau
Public bug reported:

• Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS 64-bit
• gedit 3.36.2-0ubuntu1

gedit used to have an option to change the number of recently-opened
files in the Open dropdown button.

Later, that option was removed (I don't know why), but we could still set it as
follows (in this case, I've set it to 30, because I need a lot in my history):
gsettings set org.gnome.gedit.preferences.ui max-recents 30

Unfortunately, even that has been taken away now, so there is no way to
increase (or decrease, which some people say they need for
confidentiality) the number of recent files listed.

Please could this option be reinstated, because the current limit is too
restrictive.

Thank you

[Bug 1894874] [NEW] [SRU] New upstream release 3.36.3

2020-09-08 Thread Iain Lane
Public bug reported:

[ Description ]

We should ship the stable update for gdm3

- Always use separate session bus for greeter sessions
- Chrome remote desktop fix
- Don't hardcode path to plymouth
- Fixes for when GDM isn't started on its configured initial VT (LP:
  #1845801)
- keyutils has a .pc file so use it
This runs dbus-run-session, so the binary needs to be available
- User switching fix

We have a GNOME MRE so upstream's fixes don't need to be explicitly
verified.

[ QA ]

Test:

1. Regular login
2. Auto-login
3. Fast user switching
4. X and Wayland
5. Launching different sessions

[ Regression potential ]

It's the program which logs you in to your session - the consequences
could be severe up to and including nobody being able to log in using
gdm.

Actually, found the workaround in the other ticket for anyone else who finds

ALT+F2, then type 'r' & hit enter.

[Bug 1870736] Re: [nvidia] Screen scaling 125% gives 200%

2020-09-08 Thread giacomo benelli
@Brian Neltner

Assigning blame of course is not helping. However, let me mention that
some of us in this bug report is running "Ubuntu certified" hardware
(i.e. Dell XPS). If that is supposed to mean anything at all, at some
point I'd expect at least a plan, as David Smoot was mentioning.

But again, not complaining... Nvidia is free to not fix this at all.
Chipping in for devs sounds like a good idea, count me in :)

2020-09-08 Thread David Smoot
@Brian Neltner

The point of my question is to plan I don't care about shame, I
just care if I should donate to a developer, wait another day, petition
Nvidia, or wipe the linux partition because it is pointless.

I am certainly willing to be patient, just looking to somehow quantify
the difference between patience and hopelessness and maybe figure out
how to help move the ball forward.

[Bug 1855507] Re: Add arrow key navigation to Settings app.

2020-09-08 Thread Paul White
Although you can initially move up and down the sidebar menu with the
up/down arrow keys once you have entered the right hand panel you can't
get back to the sidebar. Your sidebar option remains highlighted but the
up/down arrows have no effect.

As the tab key can also be used to enter the right hand panel then
logically I think that shift-tab should also get you back to navigating
the sidebar but it doesn't.

can you look in dmesg or kern.log for the actual apparmor denial?

> I have absolutely no idea what "ixr"

allow r (read) permission
allow ix == on eXecute inherit the current profile

an exec permission can specify different options that should be taken,
inherit the current profile, transition to specific profile, transition
based on the exec profile name, ...

> /usr/bin/firefox ixr, -> error about "option" x being in conflict

there is another exec rule that matches and it species that something
else should be done. Hence they conflict.

[Bug 987578] Re: Evince is not allowed to use exo-open

2020-09-08 Thread G.M.
Hi,

This bug is back in Document Viewer/Evince(*) 3.36.7, at least under
Linux Mint 20 Ulyana.

Apparently, evince does not try to use exo-open anymore, but launches firefox
directly (or via a sh shell?!?!) :{
I get error: "sh: 1: exec: firefox: Operation not permitted"

I've tried the trick found here to modify /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.evince
but with not success.

I used (NOTE: I have absolutely no idea what "ixr" could mean, thus what I'm
doing...):
/usr/bin/firefox ixr, -> error about "option" x being in conflict
/usr/bin/firefox r,   -> does not work
/usr/bin/sh r,-> seems very dangerous & does not work

(*) Life would be a LOT easier for bug reporters if only one name would be used
for app, instead of one name in CLI (/usr/bin/evince) and another in GUI
(Document Viewer)...

2020-09-08 Thread Oleg "Nightwing" Lomakin
Fractional scaling on intel don't work well too(it causes tearing, lags, etc).
And it works good only with wayland.
David, you can try #53 workaround(activate drm modeset for nvidia driver). It
disabled by default, may be this is root of this problem?
