as I can see you discuss two different issues that I faced as well:

I also verified the fix. Before I installed python3-gi 3.42.1-0ubuntu1,
when I ran the script, I only got errors on the command line. After
installing the update, the window showed and there were no errors on the

Just to raise awareness how awkward this can turn: When I open evolution
it offers to "recover" all mail since the last start of the program,
which can be dozens of editor windows of long gone/sent Mails. Each
requires two clicks close and confirm to "discard". Any message that
actually needs

Before checking your solution I tested again to be sure the issue still exists
and it seems that the issue has been fixed. Since the bug submission there were
a few updates that might have fixed it directly or indirectly:
* a kernel update
* a thunderbolt
