I know, that's what everyone says. But even a trivial extension can
break the whole shell.

Next time the bug becomes an annoyance, please make deleting the
extensions the first thing you try.

[Bug 1993592] Re: GNOME becomes unresponsive after wiping down touchscreen

2022-10-19 Thread Connor Nolan
'cariboubloc...@git.keringar.xyz' is actually a remnant from Ubuntu
20.04 and isn't enabled, and 'block-caribou...@lxylxy123456.ercli.dev'
is ridiculously simple and only messes with the a small portion of the
OSK
(https://github.com/lxylxy123456/cariboublocker/blob/master/42/extension.js).
I wouldn't expect that to block *all* input. Also, I can't reproduce the
issue, it just happened once while wiping down my screen.

Thanks. I wonder if these extensions are causing it:

  'cariboubloc...@git.keringar.xyz'
  'block-caribou...@lxylxy123456.ercli.dev'

Please start by deleting all local extensions:

  cd ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/
  rm -rf extensions

and then log in again.

interestingly enough, just upgraded to kinetic, where some of the

** Description changed:

After I wiped down my laptop's touchscreen with a wipe, GNOME went to
the "Activities" screen (I must've hit the button while wiping down the
  screen), then GNOME became unresponsive.

By unresponsive, I don't mean it froze. The mouse cursor still moved
smoothly. It even recognized touch events by hiding the cursor when I
tapped the screen. But it ignored literally everything else. The one
other thing that changed the UI was changing my keyboard's backlight,
which caused a volume-esque dialog to show up notifying me of the
change, before quickly fading. I couldn't even use the Fn-Ctrl-Alt-X
keys to switch to a TTY.

I then closed my laptop's lid to put it to sleep and reopened it a
little while later. The lockscreen was perfectly functional, but once I
logged back in, the problem remained. Although Fn-Ctrl-Alt-X keys worked
  again.

At that point I gave up and restarted my laptop. It's a good thing I
didn't have anything important unsaved, or I could've just lost my data
because I wiped down my touchscreen.

[Bug 1993594] [NEW] Scrolling in a view with many files is broken

2022-10-19 Thread Thomas M Steenholdt
Public bug reported:

Scrolling up and down in a Files window, in a directory with many files,
the scrolling is erratic and seems to often jump to the bottom of the
view.

It happens only when scrolling while hovering the actual files (eg.
using the mouse wheel). If hovering the scrollbar instead, there are no
problems.

The problem is bad enough, it's basically useless to get things done.

Problem happens both in List View and Grid View

[Bug 1857392] Re: Window manager warning: Overwriting existing binding of keysym...

2022-10-19 Thread Valery Ushakov
Ubuntu 22.04. I get this burst of warnings (> 1K of log) for keys <1>
to <9> every time I switch keyboard layout. It's spamming syslog to the
point of making it useless (8K+ lines of this in the last couple of
days).

What is the point of this warning? The binding is not actually even
changed according to the log! Something rebinds the number keys (<1>,
<2>, etc) to the keysyms for the digits (0x31, ...) again - why is this
not at notice or debug level? This is probably some issue in xkb maps
or something - why wear down SSD and battery?

[Bug 1993557] [NEW] Nautilus "Files" hangs when trying to type search string

2022-10-19 Thread Philippe Lamalle
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I recently installed Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS (dual boot installation on a new Dell
XPS15 laptop shipped with Windows 11 Pro).

For the last couple of days, when I try typing more than one letter in the
files search menu, I get a ' "Files" is not responding ' message and have to
force quit.

My /var/log/syslog (and a syslog.1) had grown to a large number of GB (so I
won't attempt to attach it). I purged them a while ago but syslog has grown
again to >23GB. It seems filled by lines all similar to these two:
Oct 19 16:58:57 [...] tracker-miner-f[2233]: g_file_equal: assertion 'G_IS_FILE
(file1)' failed
Oct 19 16:58:57 [...] tracker-miner-f[2233]: g_file_has_prefix: assertion
'G_IS_FILE (file)' failed

nautilus:
  Installed: 1:42.2-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1:42.2-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 1:42.2-0ubuntu1 500

Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 1:42.0-1ubuntu2 500
500 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu jammy/main amd64 Packages

Your help resolving this would be much appreciated.

Philippe

[Bug 1993244] Re: weird default applications behaviour

2022-10-19 Thread Sebastien Bacher
so the calendar selector in setting doesn't list evolution or gnome-
calendar in those cases? Are they listed if you right click on an ics
file from nautilus?

could you include your /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache in that
case and the log from the packages installation?

does doing
$ sudo update-desktop-database
resolve the issue?
