[Bug 127085] when rearraging or adding a custom launcher to panel the launcher icon dissapears or becomes hidden
You have been subscribed to a public bug: In GNOME, when creating a custom launcher complete with icon, and I drag a copy to the top panel it later becomes hidden. Sometimes it happens right away, others I must reboot, and when it starts up the custom launcher is gone! So, I try and add another copy of the launcher by doing the same thing and in the same place, and then the first one is visible again, and then there are two. I reported this before, but I thought it had been fixed, but the only way to fix this problem is to keep rearranging the launchers on panel until the custom launcher does not dissapear anymore. ** Affects: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- when rearraging or adding a custom launcher to panel the launcher icon dissapears or becomes hidden https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/127085 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I don't believe I ever got any errors. It has since stopped. It first happened when I upgraded from edgy to feisty. When trying to add various applets to the top Panel They would dissapear. And a couple times when I would try and add it again, There would suddenly be two. The only thing I think that I changed since then, was I re-installed Ubuntu desktop package and Network manager because of wireless issues. Perhaps network manager was interfering with both. I just rebuilt my Gutsy i386 machine as Hardy Beta amd64 using the xubuntu distro. flavor. Everything at that time seemed relatively okay, but I have not been running it long to say for sure. Yesterday (or Sunday morning - the 30), I installed the latest updates through apt, and I am having a lot of problems, all of which are hard to point a finger at. I cannot remember the exact packages that were upgraded, but I have attempted to rebuild the list from the apt log file (see below). I am seeing not only some X instability (a lot of crash dialogs popping up), but some general slowness problems. For example, nut-cgi requests to a running upsd on the same box keep timing out, but I cannot see any log information that would hint for what is going on. On xfce4 startup, I launch mail-notification. It takes about 5 min for the icon to show up in the system tray. If I start mail-notification from the command-line, it runs with no output, but the UI just does not come up for a very long time. I am not running compiz at the moment, so despite its upgrade it should not be having an effect to my knowledge. When I did the above upgrades, my Xfce4 sessions were corrupted. xfce4-panel would no longer start automatically, and when it did start all my icons were missing. I had to purge my .local, .cache and .config user directories to repair things. Furthermore, other tray icons were having problems. For example, knotes would start a little window instead of creating the tray icon. The same problem happened with knutclient. It seems as if it may be gtk related, but I am not sure at all. Most of the slowness all happens around the tray icons. After starting a new xfce session with those local folders deleted, knotes and other k* tray icons start fine, but mail-notification is still really slow. - Anyone have an idea of what is going on or similar experiences? Last night I attempted to reproduce the problem using the live CD I booted from the Hardy beta amd64 install CD and used the run option under safe graphics mode (had to use safe as it looks like it was trying to use the nv driver which doesn't work with DVI). I was unable to reproduce the problem. I even used synaptic to apply all current updates (some had errors though) and still could not reproduce the problem. So it is not the computer or hardy in general. I just installed a lot of patches today that included the kernel, nvidia, libc6, etc. and I am still having the problem. I am not trying to vent, but I am debating removing Hardy and going back to Gutsy which at least runs or switching from Hardy amd64 to i386. I really want to stick this through, but I am not sure what to even debug. I have been trying to reproduce the problem with some python GTK widgets with no luck. I do not know why some programs are really slow, but others not. Most are X programs, mostly GTK, but not all. My upsmon is still timing out connecting to upsd as well as knutclient. [Bug 253511] [NEW] ability to change the default x, y coordinates for removable devices
Public bug reported: In short I'd like the ability to change the default x,y coordinates for the mounted icons for removable devices. Long description: a while back i moved the icons for my CD drives around to custom spots (when mounted). Since then it has gotten messed up, and now they look weird poping up in the middle of the desktop, and i want to either reset them to the default settings, or set them to mount on the right side of the desktop like osx. Unfortunately (Nautilus ?) gnome does not have the ability to even reset to default positions. I would like 4 options: 1. Ability to reset after messing with their positions. 2. It would be nice if you could at least provide a link to the other bug report. And I disagree that this is a low priority. Just because no one else has reported about this bug before does not mean that it is of low priority. Yes, most gnome users will (hopefully) never find out that by moving their mounted icons to custom spots may cause problems, and cannot even be 'reset to default'. [Bug 293364] Re: [Intrepid] gnome-terminal --title ignored
Looks like I have to re-open this. Now, when I set the profile to Keep initial title and then try to change the title using TerminalSet Title..., the correct title is in the dialog, but the title of the window/tab is the initial title. So it appears that not even gnome- terminal can change the title with that setting. What I am desiring: Open several tabs with different working directories (my typical development environment) and name them according to the work I will do in them, but for other terminals, to be able to change the title using the set title. It seems as if there is a one-or-the-other philosophy here. I would expect that starting a term with --title or using the Set Title menu item always overrides the title (aka bash shouldn't change the title). If no --title was given or if Set Title is never called, it should use the default title of the program ([EMAIL PROTECTED]: ~) Any ideas on how to get that to work without having to make different profiles and get them to work? [Bug 351122] Re: gthumb doesn't work with gphoto (was please disable gphoto2 backend for Jaunty)
I'm having the same behaviour in a fully updated Jaunty here as well. No matter what I select in Nautilus's Media settings, I must manually unmount the Digital Camera icon on my desktop before gthumb --import will be able to see the camera. According to the /usr/share/applications/gthumb-import.desktop file, I see it includes this line: Exec=sh -c 'gvfs-mount -u %U; exec gthumb --import-photos' However, this does not work. For one thing, the %U parameter only expands to ~/.gvfs, which is not enough information for the gvfs-mount command to properly unmount the card so no unmount occurs. To fix it, I changed that line to the following: Exec=sh -c 'gvfs-mount -u ~/.gvfs/gphoto2*; exec gthumb --import-photos' This gives the gvfs-mount all the information it needs to properly unmount the card before calling gthumb. This works on my system. With the nautilus media settings to Open gThumb Image Viewer, the gthumb import dialog box pops up when I plug in the camera and I can import the photos like expected. Perhaps somebody else can test this or see a better way to fix the issue. -- gthumb doesn't work with gphoto (was please disable gphoto2 backend for Jaunty) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/351122 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gthumb in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 351122] Re: gthumb doesn't work with gphoto (was please disable gphoto2 backend for Jaunty)
Why doesn't %U expand to something more specific than ~/.gvfs? Sorry, I made a slight mistake, %U actually seems to expand to: ~/.gvfs/gphoto2 I know this because if you change that Exec line to: Exec=sh -c 'xmessage %U' you will get a pop-up upon camera insertion telling you to what %U expands. (~/.gvfs/gphoto2). To show that such a directory path is not sufficient, if you plug in the camera and let it mount automatically and then run this command manually: sh -c 'gvfs-mount -u ~/.gvfs/gnome2' you will get this error message: Error finding enclosing mount: Containing mount does not exist For reference, at this running on my computer, ls ~/.gvfs/gnome2 shows the following: gphoto2 mount on usb%3A001,007 So that's why I made the above suggestion to use the following command in the .desktop file to unmount the camera in order to make sure the full path of the camera is specified: Exec=sh -c 'gvfs-mount -u ~/.gvfs/gphoto2*; exec gthumb --import-photos' Also, as another/additional problem, the reason I removed the double quotes is because if you change that line to this: Exec=sh -c 'xmessage %U' you will not get any popup what-so-ever because the double quotes seem to prevent that line from executing. So my conclusions were: 1. The %U is not expanding to provide enough information to unmount the camera. 2. The double quotes seem to cause a problem. Disclaimer: I am not an expert. There may well be a better way to fix this issue. But hope this helps explain my logic behind the above suggestion. -- gthumb doesn't work with gphoto (was please disable gphoto2 backend for Jaunty) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/351122 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gthumb in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 662272] [NEW] Rhythmbox is unresponsive for first 10 minutes while scanning a new music library
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox This is what I did: 1) Delete ~\Music. 2) Plug in my MP3 player, which contains about 1,000 songs. 3) When prompted, choose to open Rhythmbox. 4) In Edit - Preferences - Music, change the Library Location to ~/akorg✽/music✽/library✽, which contains about 25,000 songs. Rhythmbox became unresponsive due to near-100% CPU usage about thirty seconds after I changed the location of the media library, and before I could even close the Preferences screen. After about 10 minutes (the time it took me to start submitting this bug report), the process's CPU usage dropped to a low level and the interface became responsive again. [Bug 663119] [NEW] Unneeded items in System Preferences
Public bug reported: It seems strange that in the same cycle that we have had 'Software Sources' removed from the System Preferences menu, that we have had around 4 new unneeded menu items added. These include: * Broadcast Preferences * File Management * Main Menu * Messaging and VoIP Accounts * Ubuntu One First of all none of these should be in this menu, because the menu is for 'System Preferences'. When I see this I think of hardware or services that are at a low-level in the system, that are integral two it, not user-space applications that are not linked to the basic running of the system. Broadcast Preferences (Gwibber Preferences) has no link to the system, it is merely a shortcut to the gwibber preferences. I believe this should not be here, as it is a duplication of the menu item Edit Preferences in gwibber itself. It should be removed for the same reason of 'Software Sources' but also because a user will not logically look here for Gwibber's Preferences - they will open gwibber instead. File Management, this is probably the one of the list above that has most reason to be in the menu, however I still believe that it should not be included. Nautilus is a user-space application and if a user wants to modify its preferences, he/she will open Nautilus and choose Edit Preferences. This again comes back to the point that it is simply duplicating menu items and making the Preferences menu more flooded than it already is. Main Menu is not an integral part of the system and so has no place in being here. This one seems to be even more unneeded by me, as the user has just opened the menu to get at it - they only need to right click instead of left click and they will have the 'Edit Menus...' menuitem. Again, not where a user will look and duplication of menuitems. Messaging and VoIP Accounts is the same problem as Broadcast Preferences. Not an integral part of the system and I don't really know why it is here. Ubuntu One this has a valid case for there being a menuitem, however it should be in Apllications Internet. this is a userspace application, not integral and it is much more logical for a person to look in Internet rather than System Preferences for Ubuntu One. If we hid all of these, it would make the preferences menu a lot easier to navigate, and a menu that contained concise items that were suited to their parent menu. Of course I may be completely wrong and there are legitimate reasons why these are here. [Bug 708398] [NEW] Glade list model editor lacks PyObject support
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: glade-3 See here for valid list store types: http://www.pygtk.org/docs/pygtk/class-gtkliststore.html#method-gtkliststore--set-column-types As you can see, gobject.PyObject is an acceptable value. If I hand-edit the glade XML file it works: object class=GtkListStore id=files_liststore columns !-- column-name Name -- column type=gchararray/ !-- column-name Size -- column type=gchararray/ !-- column-name Object -- column type=PyObject/ /columns /object But if I save the file in glade, it erases the type: object class=GtkListStore id=files_liststore columns !-- column-name Name -- column type=gchararray/ !-- column-name Size -- column type=gchararray/ !-- column-name Object -- column/ /columns /object Note: this is with the GtkBuilder settings, not libglade. GTK fully supports objects store in the liststore and so does the glade XML, only the UI seems to be missing the type. This works fine as well when not using a model built by the glade interface: gtk.ListStore(str, str, object) ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10 Package: glade 3.7.0.is.3.6.7-0ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-25.44-generic-pae 2.6.35.10 Uname: Linux 2.6.35-25-generic-pae i686 Architecture: i386 Date: Wed Jan 26 16:56:16 2011 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat - Release i386 (20101007) ProcEnviron: PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: glade-3 ** Affects: glade-3 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 maverick -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to glade-3 in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/708398 Title: Glade list model editor lacks PyObject support -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 711542] [NEW] Evolution does not update AOL messages as Read
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I was using Ubuntu 9.04 when the problem started. Only one AOL account was problematic. I decided to upgrade to Ubuntu 11.04 The Natty Narwhal and the problem started immediately. It also moved to the second AOL account. Further details: 1) a message in AOL appears. 2) read message and it is flagged as read. 3) when the refresh happens (auto or manual) the message is flagged as unread. Support information: The problem only appeared in recent times after an update. I did not record the details as I thought the folder/file/database was corrupt. I installed a new HDD and installed Ubuntu 11.04. I then configured my emails and let the history I had left on the mail server download. The problem was immediately present on the new database that had been created.
