just tested this again on Lucid Beta 2 with all updates and it does work
with compiz as with metacity.
There shows a different issue though:
When pressing Alt+Tab the switching order is from right to left, adding Shift
reverses it - but when
you start out with Alt+Shift+Tab the order is also

What happens is that the screen dims after a while when dim display when idle
is enabled,
but it doesn't get brighter when using the PC again.
Grapics card is an Intel 945 GME.

The bug was reproducible at the time - I don't know if it's still
present since I don't own that laptop and now don't have the same setup
anymore (autologon could have been a contributing factor) - I still
don't think that's the way to get rid of bugs.
