I just upgraded to Gutsy and enabled compiz. The Revelation applet text
field is now useless to me as well. :( I've got the default panel setup
and 3x3 desktops if that helps anybody. This is a big issue for me too,
as I've got way too many sites in my life. ;)

it without unmounting it.

Can you reproduce this after a clean reboot without first inserting a
non blank disc?
Yes, just to be sure, I rebooted, and tried this right away. Same
results.

@cyco: In my case, I keep getting new processes after killing them
unprivileged. They only stay dead when running as root.
If someone can confirm that it works without sudo, please update the
workaround saying that it should be tried first without it.

3x3 grid, and if I open it in workspace 6, it actually opens in
workspace 9.
