are so many components; we have OSS, ALSA, PulseAudio, Gstreamer, Jack

wrong. Personally I share your view about PulseAudio - that it does not

Ok, thanks for uploading.
It seems like with the gnome-media patch only we're back to Maverick's behavior
of playing bell.ogg, the very minor thug or bong sound of 0.2 seconds. (Can
you confirm?)
Which means that I should file a separate bug for having a too short sound in
the speaker test.

tested yet) - isn't this patch a little much, e g if you plug in usb
headphones, and then unplug them, wouldn't that cause the media keys to

So, as you can see pulseaudio loads the sink only after having changed
back to Analog stereo duplex.
As a side note, recording works fine with programs such as QARecord
(with alsa device=plughw:CARD=Juli) both before and after the profile

As of today's Karmic, they shouldn't be tampering with the main volume
anymore. It isn't be a regression as you can use
pavucontrol/padevchooser in Karmic as well. So, left is a wishlist
saying something like it would be nice if gnome-volume-control could
implement more of pavucontrol's

according to man page, there is a switch gnome-volume-control
--device=device, but when I try to use that switch, gnome-volume-
control tells me that there is no such switch, so apparently the man
page is not updated.
