I had a friend report the same problem while trying to watch videos she
got by email. She had just applied today's updates, her last round of
updates was 1-2 days ago.
We went through the suggested change to Sound Playback to ALSA,
rebooted, that didn't work. Set everything back to Autodetect
I missed the previous question somehow. Why is it relevant that any
other apps would properly save as .oga ? I don't know of the top of my
head but I'll keep an eye and report back if I see others. What needs to
be discussed about this ?

Well, I don' t know if I feel embarrassed or relieved but I found out I
had a corrupt file at /etc/X11/xkb/symbols/pc .
I had been playing with other keymap / layouts and somehow overwrote
that one. I found out by comparing the files with a fresh Feisty
install.
