preferences, and then dragging the slider, gnome doesn't make any sound
to indicate to you how loud the vo
the problem is not with nautilus. it is probably the nvidia usb
controller driver in maverick and natty which is screwed. does anyone
know a way to unload the driver from the kernel and load the driver from
lucid?

keyboard and one mouse. But if I click the power manager icon, it lists:

I can confirm this bug has been fixed in Maverick, at least when using
metacity. I tried using metacity, compiz, and xmonad, and gnome-panel
won't glow when I scroll wheel quickly regardless of which one I use.

It takes a lot more effort to click than to mouse over (it seems silly,
but you waste two clicks) in addition to the way that you got the
information before, where you had to move the mouse over the icon.

What's going on is that the menu item Application->accessories->terminal
has a desktop file that tells that menu entry what to do when it is
pressed. It is told to launch a gnome-terminal.
I believe if the desktop file for that menu entry gave a command for the
terminal in your preferred applicat

It could be that Ubuntu has adopted sudo as its favorite way to execute
root privileges in a terminal. Instead of su -c "command" do sudo
command. Please tell me if this works.

I can confirm this is the case. Go to System-> Administration->Users
and groups-> Properties of the user and you do things like type into the
password field etc... It won't save but it would be nice if these fields
were frozen from non-administrators.
