I had just installed avant-window-navigator and was setting up launchers
for it, I had already setup a pidgin launcher, but did not have pidgin
displayed on my desktop, the error occurred when I clicked on the gnome-
panel icon for pidgin.
Running Compiz on a x86_64 hardy install as well.

There you go, they were quite big just before DVD. They were popular outside

I have gnome-power-management to set the screen idle never and it
still goes off after 20 minutes. My fix was to go into xorg.conf and
just comment out the DPMS line for the monitor. So at least, there's a
workaround. Probably not acceptable for laptops though.

I've just dist-upgraded from dapper to edgy. If I log in and run gnome-
theme-manager, its window appears, populated with the list of installed
themes -- however, it immediately pegs the CPU to 100% and stops
updating the window.

Any fix for this yet? Cuz its pretty annoying and breaks the upgrade
path. Obviously the best solution would be to add myself to the admin
group, if it exists, but even the Users and Groups tool is broken here.
Thankfully, update-manager launches fine, but the other tools still need
gksudo.

Apologies, I guess what I meant to ask was whether anyone was working to
fix this. I consider it broken because figuring out how to launch the
groups tool in the presence of this bug isn't easily discoverable. You
can run it under gksudo at a command line but you still need to figure
out that
actually, as far as I can tell, I was just using the default Human theme
from Dapper. How do I tell? (sorry, I usually use KDE on my main
desktop)
~/.themes is empty. When gnome-theme-manager starts, before it hangs,
Human is selected in the list at the left-hand side of the window.

Clearly the upgrade didn't add user tom to the admin group, or possibly even
create one.
Workaround:
1. run gksudo users-admin
2. Click manage groups
3. Click add Group
4. Put admin as the name of the group, and put whatever users you want to
allow to change system wide settings such as

Edgy made no change at all in this issue for me.

Thanks Ben, good idea. I just used a binary search to find the
offending theme; it was Qt in my case. With that directory, gnome-
theme-manager hung; without it, it works fine.

If you want a workaround until this gets straightened out upstream, you
can patch your
/usr/share/themes/Clearlooks/gtk-2.0/gtkrc
to restore the hard-coded yellow tooltip background.
