I did try to check the behavior in the latest ubuntu, using a livecd and with strace -f i was unable to get any useful informations. So i tried with webdav, to be able to access server's log. This is the generated log for a create folder click and then for giving the directory a name. The

It really depends on the authentication policies of the DAV server. One administrator could wish to allow directory creation but not moving. In this case using gnome also directory creation would fail, even if it is allowed by the server. The other problem is the amount of PROPFIND requests
