Whatever the issue was, it no longer exsists.
I'm not sure what to mark this as so I'll just mark it as invalid since it
seemingly fixed itself.

I noticed this issue today. I launched Rhythmbox and it opened. I
navigated through the appropriate windows to play a song, double clicked
on the song, and it didn't start playing. It seemingly stoped operating
so I killed it with xkill.
At this point now it no longer
Resetting the gsettings for rhythmbox fixed this issue with me.
$: gsettings reset-recursively org.gnome.rhythmbox
