[Bug 1774145] [NEW] gnome-shell assert failure: Error in /usr/bin/gnome-shell: free(): invalid next size (fast)

2018-05-30 Thread Nicolas Göddel
Public bug reported:

I made an update with apt-get where I also got new nvidia drivers. Then
gnome freezed for a while and restarted itself so that all my running

I forced a system restart and it worked again but then I got a whole

[Bug 1787925] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGABRT in meta_bug()

2018-08-21 Thread Nicolas Göddel
Hi Daniel. I used the command `ubuntu-bug gnome-shell` to send this bug to
launchpad. If I try this with the crash file instead it only opens a window
with some crash details but there is no possibility to upload anything.
Going to errors.ubuntu.com only tells me that I am not logged in. After logging
in it says: "No errors have been reported from this system"
Can I upload the 45 MB crash file somewhere else? I don't know if it contains
sensible information.

Reproducing the issue seems not to be possible because this was an error
I never saw before and it just happened without doing anything
spectacular.

[Bug 1787925] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGABRT in meta_bug()

2018-08-21 Thread Nicolas Göddel
I just wanted to help but when the bug reporting system does not work
correctly I have no idea what to do. I often get SIGABRTs and similar
crashes with gnome-shell but the most time these bugs were already
reported and I only click on "This bug affects you". In the past I also
created some bug reports but these seem to be fine.

Maybe the bug will be gone when I have updated to Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. I
just had no time for this until now.

[Bug 1773959] Re: High CPU usage by gnome-shell when only running gnome-terminal

2018-12-27 Thread Nicolas Göddel
After years of high CPU usage with gnome-shell and not finding the
issue, I finally found this bug report, disable showing the seconds of
the clock in the top panel and now the CPU usage is between 0-1% instead
of 40% and more. What the heck? Thank you!

Still clock_gettime is active 71% of the time but the overall usage is
no minimal. Maybe my battery will last longer now.

[Bug 1813674] [NEW] gnome-shell freezes unexpectedly and crashes afterward killing all other applications

2019-01-28 Thread Nicolas Göddel
Public bug reported:

There were many programs open as the crash occurs. There were lots of
terminal windows, thunderbird, firefox, pidgin, gedit, thunar, nemo,
synergy, transmission, solar, nextcloud and GNOME system monitor and
maybe more open. Then I was opening a popup window and the shell froze
except the mouse cursor which was responsive as always.

After a while the system presents me a fresh gnome login screen. Very
annoying...

I saw many segfaults from "Chrome_~dThread ... error 6 in libxul.so" in
dmesg afterwards although I did not start any chrome or chromium
process.

[Bug 1813674] Re: gnome-shell freezes unexpectedly and crashes afterward killing all other applications

2019-01-29 Thread Nicolas Göddel
Sorry, I don't want to work without all of these extensions until the
very same crash happens again. Some of them are essential to work
flawlessly.

Also I've got a .crash-file here with 180 MB and there is a .uploaded-
file beneath so I thought it was already uploaded to launchpad. I called
`ubuntu-bug gnome-shell`, then it collected some information and opened
launchpad to file the bug. So the new bug ID is the one in the title I
guess. I also found all my uploads using my whoopsie-ID and here is the
link to the file: https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/1655e342-234c-11e9
