FYI: I removed all the gconf options for gnome-power-manager and did a sudo apt-get install --reinstall gnome-power-manager. All settings are default, only edited the timeouts so it would auto-suspend in 1+1 minutes. -- when returning from suspend my laptop tries to hibernate
